Recommended Posts

BYOND Key: TehFlaminTaco

Character Names: CH.RL.S, Angus Zhao, DRUID, Blunky, Gorge Harrold, System Crash

Species you are applying to play: Skrell

What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Black

Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question

Why do you wish to play this specific race: Skrell are an interesting race, with a unique culture that I would like to be a part of.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Skrell are the Squid Vulcan's of the Spacestation world. Although they seem cold and calculated, it's because they're unable to express their actual feelings without the use of their main language. The Ideal Skrell Role-player masters this alien culture and method of communication without forcing their human ideology onto their character.

Character Name: Wiop'Xi Jruop

Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs

Wiop is the Skrell of the STARS, and for as long as they remember they've wanted to be able to go where-ever they want, nothing able to pin them down! Born after the Glorsh-Omega Singularity in the year 2322, Wiop was exposed to the Second Space Race at a young age as Skrell colonies tried to glue their federation back together.

The moment they could, Wiop pushed to get into The Grand University of Gliutip'lzay to study the Sciences of Space Flight. After a long push, they finally managed to be enrolled in the year 2382, where they dedicated their time to their study before Graduation in the year 2405. Wiop would spend the next couple of decades aiding in research on a Contract-by-contract basis across the federation. After Humanity was contaced, and Bluespace was discovered, Wiop quickly changed from simple Space-flight to Bluespace Research. They wanted to be the one to Master Bluespace, And push the Federation into an era of Bluespace based Translocation.

Wiop grew up in a Post-Glorsh society, He never directly had reason to fear Synthetics, other then the stories that their parents told. They don't have an enthusiastic distrust of machines, but they know that they're supposed to. Xi'Quiup Iruop was Wiop's father, a Scientist who Wiop held in high regard. Xi helped Wiop during early studies, but did not make it to his graduation, having died the year before of natural causes.

What do you like about this character?

Wiop is a bright character who's enthusiastic in a world that's supposed to be very dark for their species. They're quick to trust, potentially to their own downfall, Their innocence is one of my main pulls.

How would you rate your role-playing ability? I'm confident in my ability to play a character, no-matter how alien it is to me as a person. I avoid projecting.

Notes:

I prefer to make a character as I play them, and learn them as I go. Backstory is one of my weaker suites, so forgive me on that.

Overall, I'm neutral on the application. It leaves a lot to be desired, but I'm not totally against it either.

I've seen Zhao around, and DRUID once or twice. My biggest complaint is with Zhao, his nationality seems to be the only unique, or interesting thing about him. His entire personality seems to be entirely based around the fact that he's Dominian.

As for a black skrell, that seems like a very unconventional color. As far as I know, they aren't any black skrell at all.

Why do you wish to play this specific race: Skrell are an interesting race, with a unique culture that I would like to be a part of.

This answer is a single, generic sentence. It should be a paragraph, detailing exactly what you like about Skrell.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Skrell are the Squid Vulcan's of the Spacestation world. This doesn't really answer the question. It mentions alien culture, and a single real difference. Talk about why they're special, not just the fact that they are.

Born after the Glorsh-Omega Singularity in the year 2322, Wiop was exposed to the Second Space Race at a young age as Skrell colonies tried to glue their federation back together.

What made him take such an interest in space travel? Does he have any other interests? What's his opinion of the state of the Skrell and the Federation?

The moment they could, Wiop pushed to get into The Grand University of Gliutip'lzay to study the Sciences of Space Flight. Being accepted into Gliutip is quite an accomplishment, considering their low acceptance rates. Did he do anything in his time before acceptance, specifically anything that gave him in edge in the application process? When you say he studied space flight, what does that mean exactly? Was it for engineering, piloting, navigation, or what? A general 'space flight' degree seems rather pointless, considering how most jobs on a space ship are specialized, even more so due to the lack of AI. What research was he doing, and how did he transition from standard flight to bluespace, was it hard for him to do?

Wiop grew up in a Post-Glorsh society, He never directly had reason to fear Synthetics, other then the stories that their parents told. They don't have an enthusiastic distrust of machines, but they know that they're supposed to. Xi'Quiup Iruop was Wiop's father, a Scientist who Wiop held in high regard. Xi helped Wiop during early studies, but did not make it to his graduation, having died the year before of natural causes.

What job will Wiop have on the station, and why did he move to Tau Ceti?

This is kind've a short answer, so I'll ask one more question. How was he affected by the aftermath, and stories, of Glorsh?

The application was pretty basic, and left a lot of stuff out. I'd love to hear your answers to my questions, to shed a little more light on the character.

Hi! Sorry for the long delay, I've been reworking Skrell lore. For this decision since you applied before the rework, I'll base it on what you know about previous skrell lore and suggest that you reread a bit of the new updates to the social, cultural, and work ethic sections of the main page.

On the topic of a black skrell, you can definitely have that. I recommend choosing a dark shade of a different colour though, if it doesn't look good.

The application is definitely basic, and I recommend you answer a few of the questions above please, thank you! If you do end up reworking your entire application to add in a few additions in new lore, that'd be nice as well.

I can't wait to see how you play, and completely understand the idea that you need to play a character to know them. I have to play my lore before I implement it, if you get the chance I recommend you reread the wiki due to new updates! You can also join the skrell discord here if you have the time - it includes a lore diary that I'll be updating. Not required to play Skrell though! https://discord.gg/cM2HP5z

Application accepted!
