Wigglesworth Jones
BYOND Key: Wigglesworth Jones Character Names: Samuel Wigglesworth, Fulton Skaw, Charles Hepiner, Edward Sholl, Szymon Nowak, and Rick Prescott. The last three are my most recently played. Species you are applying to play: Vaurca. What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): RGB 71, 0, 31. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Please provide well-articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: In general, I was looking into playing a Xeno. As well, CommanderXor recommended applying for a Vaurca whitelist. Personally, I consider Vaurca one of my favorite alien species, alongside Diona. I enjoy in general the more alien mannerisms of Vaurca, as well as their general insectoid looks. I've already made one transhumanist character, but I think that the transvaurcanist "thing" is a little different, as it encompasses the Vaurca species in general. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Vaurca, as I said earlier, are one of the much more alien races present. I'll list the mechanical differences first. Vaurca breath phoron gas, and eat k'ois, and can't wear certain things, due to their biology. One major difference, in my opinion, is the hives, which all vaurca are a part of, which (obviously) has a major influence on every vaurca, due to them valuing the greater good of their respective hive. Vaurca castes are also another difference, with the Unbound and Bound, workers, warriors, breeders, et cetera. Vaurca anatomy differs greatly from human anatomy, with augmentations strongly used in Bound Vaurca, but that isn't fully relevant to RP. There's a not-insignificant level of friction between Vaurca and Humans, due to the recent appearance of Vaurca, and the Lii'dra attack on Sol. Vaurca values are also different from normal humans, and I find that the worship of the Virtual is quite interesting, almost giving me an Adeptus Mechanicus kind of vibe, which I can dig. Character Name: Ka'Akaix'Viez Zo'ra Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs As like all Unbound Vaurca, Ka'Akaix'Viez Zo'ra was given 6 months to develop their brain, after which they were given a neural socket and fed information through Virtual Reality for the rest of the year. As they were born on the icy planet of New Gibson, the home of the Hive-net relay, under the Hidden Queen Ta'Akaix'Scay'extiih'aur Zo'ra, Viez had taken an interest in science, xenoarchaeology specifically, spending their time in the cellular zoo known as the Takk'ta'yat, studying various past species and civilizations encountered with some that have long since been lost to time. Viez has taken an interest in humanity in general, studying simulated versions of them in VR, like many others, and studying various pieces of data regarding their history. Once the end of the year passed, as the Hidden Queen wished to gain more information about humanity and non-vaurca in general, Viez was given the appropriate augmentations for interactions with other xenos, such as an oxygen filter and communications augments. After the augmentations were installed, he was assigned a job with NanoTrasen in the field of science, to Viez's excitement. After the appropriate forms, training, and contracts Viez left the icy tunnels of the New Gibson hive to the NSS Aurora. (EDIT: Changed some parts of the backstory to fit with the mechanics.) What do you like about this character? Their interest in history and the studying of various species, for one, could provide some material to work off of. Also, they're a bug, which is something I like, as bugs are the superior race. Along with that, as he's my first non-human character, I think it'll be a nice experiment to stretch out my abilities. I haven't played in science for a LONG time after a mishap in toxins did a bad thing, so it'll be nice to get back into the swing of things. I think his background will provide some fun material to play with too, RP wise. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I'd say 6 or 7 out of 10. I really don't know how I compare compared to other people, but I can at least type proper sentences. Notes: I think I've played around a year, now, maybe more. I really hope I didn't mess up anything regarding the lore. Also, I've had some issues with validhunting, but nothing note-worthy, luckily, and I've been working and stopping that. Blame that on me migrating from LRP servers like /TG/ or Hippie. Also, yeah, the backstory is a little barebone, but I'm honestly not that good at thinking up stuff like that. Tend to develop it more as I go along. Edited October 25, 2018 by Guest Link to comment
TheSleepyCatmom
I'm fairly certain you cannot start your Vaurca as anything but a Lab Assistant as any hive but the C'thur. But I have a few questions for you if you don't mind! How does Viez react to outside stimuli that Humanity itself gives? The various peoples on stations, including but not limited to their emotional function and how they work day to day? How does he react to Tajara, Unathi, and so on? Does he like them, is he disinterested? Does he hate them for being different? How would Viez react to knowing the Lii'dra were (and are) a very real threat to Tau Ceti at the current time? How would he react to the very real possibility that they could pop back up? Is he terrified by that, is he not worried due to the defense of the others of his hive in the system, so on? Beyond this, he wouldn't have an official schooling due to VR. This means that he'd have to do the test, and that he passed. What methods would he have that are interesting when it comes to his investigations? Any, at all? Would he have any niches that make him interesting, or just another assembly-line Vaurca following the Hive Queen's will? I think that's about all my questions for you, I'd love to see your answers! Wigglesworth Jones
I'll edit the backstory in a jiffy so all the stuff checks out regarding the job, after which I'll try and answer your questions, if that's alright. I had asked a question about vaurca scientists on the lore discord, regarding PhDs and stuff, so I'm fairly certain I misunderstood some answers. But hey, I've never been lab assistant before. Should be something new. Link to comment
Wigglesworth Jones
Alright now, onto the questions. Sorry about the wall of text, I'm not exactly sure how to do spoilers. 1. From the lore page regarding the New Gibson hive, it stated that the VR network used had various cells, each depicting various species and the like. In the description, it was said that "The largest cell by far, however, would be the one dedicated to humanity. Scay’extiih’aur's best scientists pour over and experiment with the simulated humans, documenting their responses." And I found that interesting. Viez is not necessarily invested emotionally in various non-vaurca races, with forming relationships and such, but they're invested in how each various species reacts to situations. That was one of the reasons Viez was sent out of the hive, to document each various species, what they do, et cetera. I'd see he's interested in studying and recording what they do, but in a detached kind of way like someone would react to a particularly interesting mouse. 2. I'd say that due to the Zo'ra victory in the Hive War, Viez believes that the Zo'ra hive would emerge victorious once again, though they hope that the massive casualties sustained in the First Hive War wouldn't happen again, as it'd be much harder for a hive to sustain itself. As around 1.5 million vaurca live on New Gibson, Viez hopes that, in the event of a Lii'dra attack, the hive would be able to hold out, if not successfully defend itself, for a while. However, some of this is probably wishful thinking in Viez's mind. 3. To be honest, I'm not sure if I completely understand what this question meant. Do you mind elaborating? I didn't see anything about a test on the lore, though maybe I wasn't looking in the right places. Do you mean the psychological test? 4. While Viez has never disobeyed his Queen's will, he does hold a particular passion for the study of xenobiology, I.E. the many nonvaurca species. I haven't seen that many vaurca around the station, so I can't say if he acts any differently than any other vaurca. Hopefully, I understood your questions correctly. Link to comment
TheSleepyCatmom
Roles on-board the station are meant to have degrees and experience. As Vaurca don't have colleges, they're given an aptitude test for each of these subjects instead of reliance on their degree. And as it was aptly put by Bygone, a Vaurca has never failed their aptitude test. Which would prove their ability to keep up with people taught in this field via education. As he's not taught traditionally, how would his methods diverge from people who had a traditional education, was in essence my question. Link to comment
Wigglesworth Jones
Ah, I understand now. I'd say one of the main ways his method diverges from the norm is his near-absurd use of repetition. He would attempt to repeat a process, assembly, experiment, or test multiple times, in order to see almost every possible outcome. For example, if testing the effect of oil slime extract, he'd test that 20, maybe 30 times to see any differences in the times it takes for an explosion or the radius of it. It's not super out of the norm, but it's still a divergence. Link to comment
Bygonehero
What part of human history do you think fascinated Viez, do you think they would have gotten involved in the historical sims in some way? Link to comment
Wigglesworth Jones
Yes, I do believe that they would've gotten involved in the historical sims. I'd say they would've focused on early human history, perhaps the agricultural revolution, to see where vaurca and human history overlapped or didn't. As well, they might've looked into the industrial revolution, to see how a race thrived without the use of augments, perhaps, and human spaceflight, once again to see the possible similarities and differences between the two races' histories.
