Recommended Posts

BYOND Key:

DeadLantern

Character Names:

Ka'Viax'Likx K'lax, Yamina S'raka, Ismail ibn iman al-farsi

Species you are applying to play:

IPC or Machine

What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt):

G1 chassis color.

Have you read our lore section's page on this species?:

Ye

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question

Why do you wish to play this specific race:

Not much has changed since my first whitelist attempt and this one, in terms of why I want to play it. The amount of backstories is immense, and conflict is everywhere. IPCs are so controversial that each species probably has their own take on them. Depending on the faction, humans may love IPCs, hate them, or see them as just tools. Skrell despise them. Unathi despise them. Etc, etc, and this will always create conflict. Conflict is why I play this game, and conflict is what makes it fun.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human:

On the outside, they may seem like carbon-copies of human personalities put into a machine. This is far from the case. They are designed to mimic human behavior, but that can only go so far. They will always weigh out choices, seeing what causes what and what this choice may do to something. They are logical and uniform, and will not differ from the same thinking practice. Personalities are all different, but they always are logical and without passion. IPCs are *designed* to have personalities, they do not have them. They will always follow them. The mechanical differences are there too--They do not breathe, they need cooling machines in order to go into EVA, and EMPs could be lethal.

Character Name:

Columbus

Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs

A Hephaestus Generation 1 Frame produced in '46, around the time such chassis were in high demand for megacorporations in the galaxy. This was before Biesel had instituted the need for rights of these synthetics, and so could easily be shipped to construction sites and mining operations in that area. This specific machine, Columbus, was sold to Nanotrasen. Many of its choices were made by the corporations above him, and so Columbus never had a choice in anything. This tailored him to follow orders, but questions arose. Why did he have to follow what these corporations say? Why is he doing this? Does he not have free will?

He never asked these questions, and so he was moved on about from mining operation to mining operation. Digging for phoron, anything, to meet the daily quotas and to gather as many points. Columbus was used to this. No one cared about Columbus, he was just a tool, and even when he was given rights, they really did not matter. At least, until people started wearing armbands declaring empathy towards machines like him, and then people accused him of being a terrorist, and suddenly *his* kind could be heads of staff--Was this his time? To rise above the rest?

Columbus shrugged everything off. He had a job to do, and he worked for it. He still did question it. The controversies only kept on coming, and that kept him asking on why he was still here. He did his own research, and found the answer.

Glorsh. The 3 incidents. Now he could see why he was a tool, not a respectable partner. The Skrell's dominance over the galaxy. Yes, he could see it. They were powerful, and now they keep synthetics like Columbus as tools.

There was no need to forward these questions to anyone. He just had to do his job. But he was thinking. He was still questioning. And those beliefs are still with him, even as he mines for the same old corporation.

What do you like about this character?

He knows the truth about his existance, but he does not act upon them. This makes him interesting to play. What could ignite these ambitions he has inside of him, his synthetic pride, and what could that lead on the station? What could happen when he is pushed to the limits? And will he keep on mining? I am excited to know, and I haven't even played him yet.

How would you rate your role-playing ability?

average

Notes: Please see my first application if you want to see my growth.

While I do not believe I am familiar with Dead's characters (Ithink Ismail ibn iman al-farsi is a doctor and I've interacted with them once) that really isn't an issue.

Now lets get to regarding the app. I'll be honest I'm not very deep into IPC lore, but I do have enough in-game experience to know how the different species interact with IPCs and this speaks volume. I do have a question when it comes to Columbus' reaction to other species. Will he be completely soulless when it comes to shrugging off the hatred given to him by others?

How would he react when it comes to those that go out of their way to show an IPC kindness? Hatred? Unjustified violence? He is a machine yes, but as you stated he questions what he is. These are great traits for an IPC and I am curious to see how else you will develop him.

Good luck with your application and I give a humble +1 as I wish to see this go through.

Thaaaanks so much for commenting.

Yes, he would be robotic and soulless to any action put upon him, whether it is violence or kindness. He will do what his logic dictates. But he will not shrug it off. He will think about it. For a long time. Why did that person do that? He would use the same logic, but in further detail. He might act upon these thoughts, too.
