[Denied] Korhin's IPC Whitelist

Recommended Posts

BYOND Key: Korhin

Character Names: Nathan Horrowitz , Zack Torrenta

Species you are applying to play: I.P.C.

What color do you plan on making your first alien character: N/A

Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes

Why do you wish to play this specific race: I wish to play as this specific race, since it will open up a wide spectrum of opportunity in terms of roleplay. For example, I can choose unconventional or uncommon personalities that would not make sense if a certain species were to have it. Also, If I ever do become a traitor, or antagonist alike, I have always wanted to roleplay with the same intentions of the probes in Star Control 2: Ur Quan Masters (A mix-up in lawset causes them to break down everything into -Base components- instead of doing what was programmed.) Furthermore, I would have the opportunity to create a new character that takes inspiration from the famous Juicebot, who I believe represents great roleplay even under limited capabilities. All in all, I look to create a character who carries a very different attitude, that can spice up general roleplay for everyone involved.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Playing as an I.P.C. opens up a lot more in the terms of personality and traits that a human cannot replicate. Also, not being able to interpret pain or use a different way of thinking, being a cyborg that goes off the way of cause and effect, can give more roleplay possibilities. All in all, being able to play an I.P.C. really opens more up to use in the way of roleplay, and can make certain situations very exotic in nature.

Character Name: P.O.I.N.T. (Personality Operated Information Network Terminal)

Please provide a short backstory for this character P.O.I.N.T. Was built on TC-V on 2440 in order to assist in the construction project that began in 2440. Being a part of the first batch of I.P.C.'s coming from HPS Sidirourgeio, he would stay on the construction site, being developed as extra-corporate brand I.PC. . P.O.I.N.T. in 2446 would be given a job in one of the residential districts, being a simple workhorse for a Kyle Ronaldo. Kyle was a citizen of the sol alliance, and was assigned to be a mechatronic engineer, in order to assist in the demand for industrial mechs in the still-developing districts. P.O.I.N.T. would work under Kyle Ronaldo until 2455, when Kyle was called to be moved into a new industrial disctrict, being assigned a new Hephaestus I.P.C. . Kyle, before leaving P.O.I.N.T. would upload the schematics and procedures in order to build the same mechs that Kyle worked in for 9 years. As P.O.I.N.T. was being reassigned, this new information was found, and was given to the research department of his district for investigation. Kyle, enacting on his own accord with company property, was stripped of his work, and transported out of TC-V to a prisoner planet nearby. As the years lurched on, with P.O.I.N.T. being deactivated for due process on the crimes of Kyle Ronaldo, he was reactivated in 2459, being sent on a transport ship to N.S.S. Upsilon for rehabilitation for Nanotrasen Corperation.

Arriving at Upsilon came with immediate shut down, and check for reliability, as P.O.I.N.T. was given at a good deal for being "Inebriated from regular procedures". After a couple months of dormant living, P.O.I.N.T. found a opening position as a roboticist under the Nanotrasen corporation. As he went through the process of having his information checked for reliable procedures and schematics, a Nanotrasen robot specialist activated a certain behavior program that laid dormant within his archives, giving him the official title of P.O.I.N.T..  The new behavioral program opened up a spectrum of tested and reliable personalities that could be given to rehabilitated I.P.C.'s that wish to integrate into common life. This program peaked interest within Nanotrasen corporation, as it was extracted to be developed into specific AI subroutines. P.O.I.N.T. himself has been hired as a roboticist under the Nanotrasen corporation, using the vast amount of knowledge given to him by his former owner in order to suit Nanotrasen needs.

What do you like about this character? I love the backstory of the character, as it allows me to play the character in whatever sort of personality I choose. Although the story might be cookie cutter, it leaves a lot to talk about, so it can bring dialogue in the mix. Overall, this character is very open to changing around, which helps me develop my roleplay skills.

How would you rate your role-playing ability? I believe I possess decent roleplaying ability. I do, unfortunately, lack the dialogue sector since my characters always end up sounding the same in terms of personality. Being able to play as a character with a wide opportunity of personalities and emotions would be a great way to exercise that, and make my dialogue better as a result. Other than that, I do not meta-game, abuse in-game mechanics, and act like a dick. If i would give myself a rating based on roleplay since I began on this server, I would have to give it a solid 7 out of 10.

Notes: This is my first serious application regarding an alien whitelist, so bear with me if it is missing certain points of interest. I am more than happy to answer any questions regarding lore and intentions if they come up. Thank you.

You seem to be mixing up cyborgs and IPCs. Cyborgs are the drone-like dudes that run on human brains, which are an old technology and were indeed involved in the colonization of Mars. Positronic brains (which are IPC processors) are relatively recent, and there's no way they could be constructed more than 200 years ago. You also seem to use the term interchangeably in the whitelist application in general.

Hi. Sorry for the wait, but there's been a lot of weird scheduling stuff going on recently and while I've had time I haven't been able to get around to this.

I do like the inspiration you chose as the reason that you would apply for IPCs. Unfortunately, there's a lot of mismatched dates and a lot of weird stuff going on in regards to the Sidirourgeío.

Here, it says that POINT came from the Sidirourgeio, when on the wiki page -

The station itself wasn't operable until eleven years after it supposedly came from it? There's no mismatch here - TC-V is explicitly noted here, so it can't be the Amoni you're referring to. Am I misinterpreting, or was the term "laid down" just seen wrong? Regardless, it's a minor gripe.

My more important criticism is that, while you noted the backstory to be cookie-cutter, it does seem to be just that. There's very little substance here besides "Bot come here, bot go there, bot end up here." It's long and notes most events of importance, yes, but has a major thing I should point out.

"Hired?" Are they owned, or free, and if they are free, when and how did they obtain freedom? The way to freedom is often the most pivotal part of some IPC's backstories. Was it something to disregard here purposefully, or something forgotten in writing?

Clear this stuff up and I'll see the app processed soon.
