FrozenDahliaRose
BYOND Key: FrozenDahliaRose Character Names: Malcolm Corrigan, Elijah Lovelace, Mercury Stevens Species you are applying to play: IPC Have you read our lore section’s page on this species?: Yes Why do you wish to play this specific race?: I want to play as an IPC because they are both similar enough to humans that I could confidently play as one, and different enough where I could explore new possibilities for roleplay. IPC behavior has always interested me from a roleplay standpoint and I would like to try my best to bring that to my own character. I also want to try something new, and I think that, with my roleplaying abilities and style, that an IPC character would be perfect for that. Identify what makes playing this species different than playing a human: IPCs are synthetic. They are artificial life created by humans to serve a specific purpose. Thus, an IPC is driven by the purpose they were made to serve, whereas humans, it could be argued, have no specific purpose and instead make their own purpose. In that, humans have a degree of free will that an IPC, whether free or owned, will not initially have. In short, an IPC has a set purpose that they must follow, while a human generally does not. Also, while humans generally have a sense of self-preservation, due to their programming, IPCs are self-preservation first, purpose-driven second, and all else third. Character Name: Endymion Backstory: Endymion is a fairly new IPC, created on 24 October 2461, manufactured by Bishop Cybernetics and purchased by NanoTrasen. His created purpose aboard the Aurora is nursing and to otherwise aid human doctors in the medical field. Within the first few days of arrival, while Endymion's behavior was as expected and he performed his tasks with the speed, accuracy, and efficiency of any well-working IPC, many found him to give off a rather off-putting vibe. This, of course, could be attributed to his creation. As, put in charge with the outer design of the newest IPC, the designer in charge of Endymion's appearance found it best to model him off a human being he had once known. Every feature, down to the shape of his jaw, his nose, and his cheekbones, mimicked a living being that, at one point, had truly existed. Of course, due to human error and time, the designer had not done his job perfectly. While Endymion was a near-perfect mimicry of a human and a very specific human at that, he was still that: nearly perfect. A couple design flaws in the shell, causing wiring to be visible under the skin at the joints, had led to those in charge of Endymion;s creation to suggest his being sold to NanoTrasen. Upon being sold to NanoTrasen, it was soon decided that Endymion would be a good addition to the medical field. Working as a nurse, Endymion quickly showed his prowess that was built into him from the very beginning. His hands move with a graceful precision, as does his lips in a soothing murmur. He knows the best path he can take towards healing his patients and he's always on that path as soon as it manifests in his artificial brain. As Endymion grows, in a manner of speaking, aboard the Aurora, he will come to meet various species, including humans. He will get to know the mannerisms of many people and work together with them in order to further his steps towards his created purpose. What do you like most about the character?: I think Endymion would be a lovely addition to the medical field of Aurora, in that he's highly devoted to his created purpose and also very willing to help both patients and doctors alike. His drive towards efficiency and lack of human immaturity will allow many things to get done that often fall to the sidelines, such as paperwork, other medical busywork, as well as simply checking in with a patient during their time in Medbay to ensure the patient is kept happy, or at least out of pain. Endymion's willingness to perform his tasks without an inkling of back-talk or complaints, I think, will be a breath of fresh air to some doctors who have grown bitter towards some of their colleagues. How would you rate your roleplaying ability?: I would rate my roleplaying ability as a 7/10. I’ve been roleplaying for many, many years, and I’ve been playing SS13 for a good 5 years (and on Aurora for almost 1 year), however there is always room for improvement, which I’m always looking to do. I hope that, through Endymion, I can continue to evolve and grow as a roleplayer. Edited November 22, 2019 by FrozenDahliaRose Link to comment
Roostercat
You are going to need longer replies to the questions. The backstory needs 2 paragraphs, and one paragraph for the others is recommended. Link to comment

Since Endymion is a new IPC, I'm having a bit of trouble adding on details in his backstory, but I did go back and try to refine my application a bit! Link to comment
niennab
I must echo the same sentiment. The backstory is lacking. Who manufactured the shell? (Nanotrasen doesn't manufacture IPCs) Why were they sold over made a contractor? They were made for medical but what particular field? Why? Helping how so? Do they have any particular outlooks as an IPC? Etc etc. Link to comment

The fact that I'm having a bit of difficulty with these questions tells me that I may need to do a bit more research, and maybe ask a few more questions, but it has definitely put me on the right track! Take you time. If you want, I can extend the standard application deadline 2 days (meaning ill get back to you 120 hours from you posting your application instead of 72 hours), if you need more time to bolster your application. If it helps, reading previously accepted applications may give you ideas as well. SmallGreenAnt's application is a favorite of mine. Link to comment

niennab
A few more questions! A couple design flaws in the shell had led to those in charge of Endymion to suggest his being sold to another company, You mention design flaws but what are they? Also, considering the wiki says that Terraneus Diagnostics focuses on positronic brains, AIs and combat modules, it may be best to choose a different company that may more reasonably make a medical IPC. niennab
Sorry for the delay. Since I didn't see a response, I had no idea that you updated the content! Nonetheless! The application is still fairly simple, however I am willing to give you a chance due to the answers and revisions provided. Accepted! Link to comment
