One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race?: I find the warring factions of Adhomai a good back drop to create some rich and interesting character concepts, even more so with the implications and developments of the cease fire and armistice. I have always viewed the conflict with a considerable deal of interest but have held of until now because I was mainly interested in creating a non-PRA character first. With the implications of the armistice and the NKA and DPRA both becoming legitimate factions I believe it is easier to justify having non-PRA characters aboard the Aurora. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Tajara are different from space age humans in our setting from a societal standpoint as they share similarities with early twentieth century (1900s) human society in some respects. In this way they may be familiar in concept to us as players, and yet, are a very big jump between the current society of 2461 in human space. The Tajara are an uplifted species that is still dealing with the repercussions brought on by human and primarily megacorporation interference launching them to levels of technology they were not prepared for. They have only recently begun catching up societally to their new levels of technology, with rural areas still being relatively low tech in comparison to the bigger cities. Their home world has been subjected to a three-decade long period of revolutions and conflict, thus meaning the average Tajara character has been subjected to conflict for a significant part of their life if they were born on Adhomai. They are also subjected to a different, stricter and more state led series of governments. The Tajara people have been subjected to strict governmental oversight since before contact, first at the hands of the Njarir’Akhran, then the ‘true government’ in the form of the Peoples Republic, and now at the hands of the one of three respective governments. The media is tailored as propaganda, musicians are used to promote sentiments against the other factions, secret services monitor the public. The different subraces of Tajara are also genetically inclined toward certain tasks due to selective breeding, and roles within society. Which is not something we see exhibited for human characters. There are also the other Character Name: Feodor Maranzefel, AKA, Feodor ‘Azunja’ Maranzefel, AKA, Rraahmarrzel Azunja Al’murraanzifelii Please provide a short backstory for this character: Spoiler Born 3566 AI/ 2408 CE, during the end of the era known as the Steeple Peace, a time of great tension between the nobility and the peasants. Rraahmarrzel was born to a relatively well-to-do Hharar family in the Duchy of S’rendul, in the city of Olska. His father, Zuuzharrel, was a minor scientist working directly for the nobility, allowing his mother, Mirrajaal, to raise him and his sisters, the younger, Jaadarrii (3 years younger than him), and Najerruskii (14 years older than him). They lived within a modest house within the city centre. By the time he was six years old, his older sister had begun a seemingly promising law enforcement career. All things considered the family had managed to fair better than most due mostly to his father’s scientific work securing them the favour of the nobility, who was at the time, hoarding the positive benefits of his research for themselves, and placing restrictions on the peasants. It was this profession that his father was seemingly keen on having his son follow him into. He had recently entered his tenth year when first contact with humanity was made. As a result, he was too young to understand the rumblings of discontent that worried his parents and eldest sister. When the Great Revolution broke out three years later and news spread of the executions of the nobility and their allies at the hands of groups of rebels, such as the Republic of Free Tajara, and his parents become increasingly worried, his mother was worried about the survival of the family, while his father was enraged at the rebels threatening his livelihood and the stability and tradition that the noble rule brought. A noble rule that had allowed them a previously stable life, that was suddenly plunged into disorder and chaos. It was 2424, Rraahmarrzel’s sixteenth year of life when the full brunt of the revolutionary hostilities landed at his family’s doorstep. A rogue M’sai rebel general from Baltor moved to push against the Kingdom of Kaltir, brutally subjugating Olska in an unexpected lightning assault, during which his mother’s life was claimed in the confusion of the initial frenzied and disorganised fighting as Olska’s defence forces were overwhelmed by the attackers. As a result, his father heaped the blame for his wife’s death and their worsening conditions solely on the rebel occupiers who took what they needed from the city and then some. As the days turned into weeks, and the months, his father continued to teach his son scientific knowledge while simultaneously being forced to scrounge for scraps along with the rest of the city as the rogue military claimed the lion’s share of their resources. During the occupation, his thirteen-year-old sister struggled heavily with their new living conditions and became ill with a fever. She was left under the protection of the eldest sister who had survived the initial occupation when she was held back from the fighting by their mother, shortly before she died. In the meantime, he and his father would scavenge for food and medicines, generally trying to adapt to a much more unstable lifestyle that they had previously been sheltered from. Months passed before salvation arrived in the form of the Kaltir Expeditionary Force, who removed the occupying force that had taken over the city. Rraahmarrzel and his family found themselves swept up, and joining, in with the adulation of the King, celebrating with many other citizens in the streets. This newest sense of safety was removed when news of a peasant revolt in Dolor, a neighbouring territory was reported, the family joined a number of refugees who were leaving Olska and heading north, further into the King’s territory. His eldest sister did not join them, she had decided to fight for the King and joined up with the Kaltir Navy, who had been a major factor in the amphibious assault that had taken Baltor and Olska back from the rebels. It took a number of weeks for them to reach Dymtris, where his father once more offered his scientific mind in service of the nobility. It was here that Rraahmarrzel served primarily as an assistant for his father for a number of years, meanwhile they received news of the victories won by the Kingdom’s forces, including the monarchist naval victory in 2429, which his sister took part in. However, tragedy struck late into the next year when rebels managed to sink the Kingdom’s navy after a long engagement, a battle in which his eldest sister was among the many casualties. This further radicalised the family against rebels who had now claimed the life of two beloved family members. As all the other monarchies began to fall, leaving only the Kingdom of Kaltir he and his family remaining family began to strive harder to help the Kingdom before it also was forced to capitulate. When the violent executions of the nobility began the family fled into hiding into the rural area around Dymtris. Here it was much easier to appear as simple displaced Hharar farmers. Then followed the 16-year interwar period spent under the thumb of the PRA rebels. During this time the family kept up the pretence of being farmers, and for all intents and purposes, that is what they became. Rraahmarrzel fell in love early during this period of his life with another Hharar farmer, and a S'rendal'Matir ceremony was performed. Together they had three children, two daughters and one son and for a time he was content with his new life, as was his younger sister who also began her own family. However, his now elderly father was still filled with a much stronger and bitter hatred of the rebels, he continued to try and create minor inventions to help with farming, something Rraahmarrzel attempted to help with, although they had little success with the meagre farming equipment and supplies, they could afford. Later in this period his father moved suddenly away to the very edge of their village’s borders without informing his children and he was arrested a number of weeks later, after it was discovered he was attempting to build improvised explosives, crimes he was executed for, although his advanced age meant it was unlikely he would have survived the prison environment for long. After some whispered rumours around the village, his life was once again disrupted in 2450 when the New Kingdom of Adhomai began an open rebellion against the Republic. He found his patriotic sentiments stirred back to the forefront of his mind, sending his family and his sister’s family north to Kaltir proper while he, his brother in law, and a number of other villagers volunteered themselves in defence of the hastily constructed Dymtris Line. It was here that he fought for close to eight years with little reprieve other than to send the occasional letter back to his family. Many of his fellow villagers who had volunteered with him perished and he himself was injured during the fall of the Dymtris Line. He had pushed his brother-in-law out of the blast zone of a Republican grenade, catching his left leg and hip with shrapnel. He and his brother-in-law joined the retreating monarchist forces, the latter having to drag the former until they could link up with medical aid. When they finally finished their retreat to Kaltir he had lost his leg to gangrene, although he was reunited with his family alive and well. Although as he looked upon the faces of his children who were now much older than he had left them he came to the realisation that he did not want to leave them to be exposed to the same horrors of the frontlines that he had been. He petitioned the NKA to allow him to assist them in a scientific capacity now that he was unable to fight and spent the next three years mainly trying to reverse engineer recovered human technology from the Republican forces to improve the comparatively inferior equipment of the New Kingdom’s forces, to very little success. What little pay he, and his family, who took up mostly labour and aid work, were able to acquire was rationed, some going toward the bare necessities while the rest was added to their collected savings. Rraahmarrzel had been planning on smuggling his family off planet into Biesel space through one of the cheaper, but more dangerous routes, abandoning the NKA for what he reasoned Must be a better life away from the war. However, with the announcement of the armistice he found that he did not have to abandon anything. The NKA was now an officially recognised government by Tau Ceti, his fears that he would be unable to find work without renouncing or hiding his allegiance were seemingly solved. Instead he managed to convince the NKA to sponsor a single passenger seat for him off planet so that he may study the technology of humanity as a scientist and report his findings back to them, so they may improve their equipment for the possible arms race a cold war would bring. --- THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION IS GOING TO BE EXPLOITABLE INFORMATION FOR TRAITORS: DO NOT READ IF YOU ARE NOT INTERESTED IN KNOWING IT OCC RIGHT AWAY --- Problems arose for him and the NKA when they realised that, although he had been taught by his father, who was a relatively successful scientist, he had never officially been to a university. They were forced to create a forged PHD from Shungsta University of Agrarian Sciences along with written acknowledgement of his ability as a scientist, under the name Feodor Maranzefel, a name adapted for humanity, something he had not done with his birth name. As a result, he is forced to lie about the specific timing of his leg injury, saying it was part of a DPRA artillery strike shortly before the end of the Great Revolution. Although he was the only member of his family to be allowed to travel safely in this way, he hopes to save as much money as possible quickly to transport the rest of his family to Mendell along with him. --- EXPLOITABLE INFORMATION ENDS --- After arriving on a work visa into the Republic of Biesel he used some of his family’s savings to acquire a small apartment within district 6 of Mendell city, and sought out work with the megacorporations of the system. Undergoing an interview process for Nanotrasen after which it was agreed he would be able to work as a scientist aboard a research station on the provision that he undergoes an acclimation period as a lab assistant lasting a 2-3 weeks, after which a performance review would take place before full-paid scientific work could begin. What do you like about this character? One of my favourite parts of this character was actually the creation process. I went into this knowing I wanted to create a character for either the ALA/DPRA or NKA and eventually settled on the monarchists. At first I thought it would be an interesting challenge to create a character that would be radicalised toward wanting the noble rule that had caused such large divides in their society. However, I was actually quite shocked to find how easy it was to create a relatively (in my opinion) believable character that was radicalised against the rebels for a significant portion of their life. This is also one of the older characters I have created, with an established family that will shape a lot of their decision making, whereas a number of my previous characters have very compact families, if they have any at all. How would you rate your role-playing ability? 7/10, I know some people like my dumb characters, I’m sure there are some who don’t Notes: As always, I am open towards any and all questions as they allow me to get a better grip on the character and consider stuff I’ve probably missed out (this app was a few hundred words heavier before a saving error forced me to start from scratch)
BoryaTheSlayer Posted December 18, 2019 Posted December 18, 2019 Hi! Me likey you and your application. A little question tho. Reading this paragraph made me want to ask: How does Rraahmarrzel feel towards NKA as a whole? I'm a little curious as to what his thought process was when this sudden switcharoo happened.

Reading this paragraph made me want to ask: How does Rraahmarrzel feel towards NKA as a whole? I'm a little curious as to what his thought process was when this sudden switcharoo happened. Thank you for taking the time to read! So, my thought process was essentially that he never strictly wanted to leave the NKA, in his eyes it has been the actions of rebels that have led to the war, as well as to the deaths of a number of his direct family. However, the Dymtris Line was the first truly real fighting he was ever directly apart of and his injury, then sub sequential reunification with his family made him realise that he didn't want his children, or his grandchildren having to fight. In this way, He's very much learned from the actions of his father, who was essentially consumed with his hatred of the Republic so much that he ended up abandoning his family and getting himself arrested. Rraahmarrzel was privately, more than willing to smuggle himself and his family away to try and leave the war behind him but the armistice has provided him with an opportunity to act in a more official capacity, which offers a degree of protection for them. The TL:DR of that is essentially, he's a self-serving monarchist at heart, who is more concerned with keeping his children from dying in battle than anything. So he was ready to run away but the armistice provided him with a safer way to get out of system and start preparing to shift his family over. It was very much, a cost-benefit calculation that eventually made him realise keeping the NKA as his ally would be more helpful than trying to take the more dangerous and less stable path he had previously planned.
