BurgerBB Posted December 27, 2019 Posted December 27, 2019 Station shields needs to be reworked in some way. It contains some pretty bad code that hasn't been changed in a century despite various additions that affect shields semi-recently for the worse. There are a lot of other non-code related flaws such as: - Station shields do not generate when hit unless the whole shield system is reset. - Station shields are extremely slow to generate and its settings sometimes outright lies. - Station shields have extremely weird power consumption - Station shields protect shuttles that don't exist, which shows a very hilarious outline of the shuttle. - Station shields use that shitty UI that has difficulties updating sometimes.
BurgerBB Posted December 27, 2019 Author Posted December 27, 2019 1 hour ago, Marlon Phoenix said: What are your solutions? The station shields should not be generated based on area. Instead, the shields should be placed based on manually placed markers instead to ensure sanity. When a shield tile goes down via destruction, it should be placed in a list that tells it to regenerate some time later. Capacitors should actually act as capacitors, storing reserve energy to be used to restore missing shield turfs. Remove half the shitty settings on both shields and make it easy to understand/use. Half the settings are usually useless.
Gangstafary Posted December 28, 2019 Posted December 28, 2019 ^Supporting, although I wouldn't mind for the "useless" settings to take some actual complexity so it can get a thing where you can know how to set them up or you can know that + additional setup for non-standard situations.
Screemers Posted December 31, 2019 Posted December 31, 2019 a more simple solution, our current shields are limited by the capacitor they have, if we could only plug them directly on the grid and having the capacitors acting as a power buffer (like a dedicated better powercell) we could actually have more efficient shields. A lot of engineers are bragging about producing enough power so the station power load is about 30 percent. That just mean we are wasting 70% of our power, so dumping them in the shields will actually be useful. Also, on the other side, if we can allow more power to be dumped into the shields, it will mean they will also run out faster is the power get cut in some way. Leaving them some vulnerabilities to exploit.
