  1. Basically what says on the title. Xenobotany is pretty limited once you figure out the whole plant genome if there are no hangar technicians to process your order. It'd be good to have 5 or so random nodes at roundstart to bypass this. This wouldn't render those cargo orders unnecessary since, if there's a technician in the round, a xenobotanist will still need a wider population of xenoplants to find interesting traits and chemicals.
  2. After having read most of the comments in the post I think that the most frequent common ground is reducing the blood boil and excessive pain that comes with it, which I support too. I think the previous nerfs to the laser rifle can be enough or slightly tweaked by just slowing down with BB and the pain given, currently it makes too much of an impediment.
  3. Always in for more variety of random events that may add to uncertainty as OP said. Besides the hivebots, spiders and the usual, some refreshment would be nice. Nevertheless I wouldn't go too far with it so as to make very unique mobs with unusual powers and the alike.
  4. BYOND key: Gangstafary Character names: Fatima Tadhhab, Kayne Mason, August Holloway, Friedrich Atkins, Kalima Ndongo and lastly Theodore Leopoldshohe. How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Since about 2018. Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they?I got a ticket with Kayne Mason at the very beginning of my stay in the server. Can't find it anymore so I think it might have expired. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: I think that the purpose of a head of staff role is primarily to make the round engaging, setting some goals and expectations to achieve and to maintain a constant pace that keeps the whole department engaged. This sounds idealistic for sure, and more so considering the chaos that typically ensues in a round, yet I think that at least a good head of staff should try to give some initial guidelines to their crew, be easily reachable for questions and doubts, be proactive and willing to engage with the work in a short-staffed shift as well as being a helping hand to those new to the role or actively in the learning role. A head of staff's OOC goal should also be to keep an eye on those roles in their department that may be less mechanics-dependant and hence may be struggling getting their special gimmick rolling or getting enough interaction and roleplay. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: I consider that a head of staff have both ICly and OOCly added responsibilities tied to their position; One has to abide to their superior responsibility as a character IC but also can't plainly ignore them from an OOC perspective given the roleplay standard that is sought in this server. Also it is remarkable how whitelisted players should try to uphold this aforementioned roleplay standard up to what is expected from someone that got the green light through an application process. With the ability to play a head of staff role comes to responsibility of being a good roleplayer and staying in character at all times. There also comes the assumed fact that your character is, to what would be a reasonable extent, knowledgeable of the fields that comprise their department and the extensions this department has in other departments, logistically, etc. Could you give us the gist of what is currently happening in Tau ceti and how it affected your character and their career? The recent events at Tau Ceti may have been more convulsing than ever, with an entire planet being obliterated behind obscure plots by megacorporations and previous hegemons being now reduced to ashes, with new superpowers resulting from the merge of the big five exerting a monopoly never seen before in the Orion Spur. The character I intend to play as a staff position, Fatima Tadhhab, is quite concerned with the recent events, and the now seemingly calm times after such an storm gives her a relief, yet as a Scarab she still feels this issues to be of a foreign matter and not really concerning to her and her kin. She still resides in somewhat modest appartments, sending most of her wages to her fleet back at the Frontier, and although maybe being slowly assimilated into the main dominant culture, she still cares mainly about the news happening around home, the Coalition of Colonies and lives her personal life in diaspora. What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted? Research Director. Maybe after I burn that role enough I'll try Captain if some good character idea pops up. Have you familiarized yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles? Yes, also with the standard procedure and Corporate regulations. Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking.: Fatima Tadhhab, currently Roboticist, will be played as Research Director. Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action? Yes I fully understand this. Extra notes: Nothing else to add here from my side. After quite some time playing here, with big breaks inbetween so as to refresh my enjoyment of SS13 I have decided I may be ready to try and get my first app. I thought a Command position would be a nice one to start with.
  5. Overall I like this but maybe the colour contrast between floor tiles in places like central hallway main lvl ring and cryogenics is too much.
  6. After reading this comment and thinking more about it, and witnessing a couple wiz rounds since my last comment in this thread, I have to post again since I have changed my mind. Yes, still I have seen good wizard gimmicks, but they all were mixed gamemodes like visitors, not wizard alone per se. I totally agree, wizard is only fun imo for the player playing wizard, it's gimmicks are childish and LRP, don't bring anything to the table interpretation-wise. I'd go further and advocate for removing the wizard roundtype, only allowing the mixed gamemodes in which wizard is part of, while keeping them in the secret rotation.
  7. I hope this doesn't end in shift-start mechs spawned.
  8. Being a roboticist, you obviously have access to the fabricators windoor in your lab, yet clicking it with the PDA won't work, it will just hit the windoor with the PDA.
  9. Well, this is a small suggestion that is focused on improving QoL. The windoors like that in Robotics lab leading to the fabricators area require for you to take the ID out of your PDA and click it with it in hand to keep the door open/close. My suggestion is: make it so just clicking the windoor with the PDA (with the ID inside it, of course) opens/closes it.
  10. Supporting. Maybe, like with borgs, a roboticist tator or any other tator with enough knowledge could pry open the IPC's chest and then open the wiring, having to deactivate some stuff and then emagging, or making inserting a hacked law board doable..
  11. Why not, supporting. Not only suit cycling machines, but many other stuff like the DNA-modifying machines from xenobotany usually spit the item under them rather than on top.
  12. Since there's no CoC flag, a portrait of Iraiya, Tian Kehan would be appreciated.
  13. Yes, zero gravity. However, afaik, off-worlders aren't mechanically different from regular humans when in zero gravity.
  14. I'd be inclined to support since I don't really like wizard rounds generally. However, I've enjoyed some and since the biggest issue here seems to be the trolling and so on, I would just stand for supporting a more thoroughly enforcing of the rules, and maybe being way less lenient with such LRP gimmicks.
  15. I specifically addressed that when talking about phonotactics. In-game, you can know which language an unknown language is cause Sol sounds like an asian language, Freespeak sounds like gargle, Tradeband sounds like latin, etc etc. Addressing what you say about a paper being able to contain many different languages... You have a point, I didn't think of that, although I assume there can be workarounds for that, though they'd require more coding headache.
  16. I think people responding to this are looking at a finger which is pointing them to the moon. Aesthetics is the least of my concerns when suggesting this feature. You don't really need different fonts for this, the functionality would remain the same, and due to phonotactics one could still know which language it is. Given the case of non-human languages which have different alphabets, any kind of symbols or default fonts could be used. As another possible measure, upon using a piece of paper as to read it, a line of text could indicate that you do so and see it's in Freespeak, for example, or "it's a text composed of strange characters" if the language is unspokable by a given person.
  17. As an off-worlder usual player, on one side I do agree that it'd be a realistic addition. On the contrary, and looking more at balance and mechanics, I think off-worlders are already pretty much weak enough physically, and the meta this would bring would be undesirable. I wouldn't mind that dislocating an offie limb could trigger a small chance to break it though.
  18. I'm confused about the fonts issue... Can't it just be exactly as it is in speech, but written?
  19. What says in the title. Just as you can set a default language to speak or momentarily change languages using the ",prefixes", make players able to write in other languages than Ceti Basic.
  20. The most stable is the phoron one, I haven't really tried another options but once saw someone do it on a N2 setup and that's a big NO
  21. Thanks for the feedback. Who were you playing as when interacting with her?
  22. I was there with Fatima to see the visit of the star chanter and the first Peacekeeper visit in which they entered her lab and put everything upside down. Overall I enjoyed them, from my perspective I could feel the goonerism of the federation and overall I enjoyed them. The star chanter one, which was the second afaik, was a completely different one from what was expected and helped fulfill the moral idea of two sides having a point, although that moral ambiguity was pretty much lost in favour of the resistance for all non-skrells. But who cares about skrells?
  23. Thanks, really appreciate it since I barely know anything about coding, not to say I know nothing at all. Really weird that all scarves fulfill that "flexiblematerial" flag but the pioneer's one doesn't.
  24. If it's a bug, it's one of the oldest. Doubt it's a bug, since bugs are ultimately fixed soon or later. Maybe it's like that cause people complained about autoinhalers/pills/etc being unable to be used with a breath mask, while removing the breath mask in an oxyless environment even if just for a little bit could get you a popped lung if RNGesus thought it was your time.
  25. Indeed, and so does a breath mask, yet you can perfectly eat and drink with it on. It's just a qol change that can't really be abused for powergamey reasons. Alternatively, I also suggested a "Lower scarf" verb to lower it and reveal the mouth without removing it.
