[Denied]Canon35's Unathi Species Maintainer Application

Recommended Posts

Ckey/BYOND Username: Canon35

Position Being Applied For: Unathi Species Maintainer.

Past Experiences/Knowledge: Besides a brief and unremarkable tenure as Human Lore Maintainer in 2017, I had also been one of the first CCIA (Back when they were called Duty Officers.) for about a year and a half after their inception.

Examples of Past Work:
https://forums.aurorastation.org/topic/2816-sol-alliance-news-network/page/2/ I previously assisted Jackboot and the lore team with some writing involving our Sol Occupation Arc.
https://forums.aurorastation.org/topic/4117-elyra-news-network/page/2/ VileFault had left a unfinished arc regarding Elyra. I had no way to contact him regarding this as it seemed he had vanished, so I tied it up by connecting it to the then-canon ATLAS Artemis Initiative and ATLAS' views on independent human nations at the time.
https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Notable_Humans I expanded on this page during my time as Human Lore dev as well. Namely the Sol Alliance, Biesel, and Corporate section.
https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Miran’mir_Academy_of_Scientific_Pursuits While Alberyk did most of the writing, I had helped with the Academy through contributing to the history and concept of it.

Other than this, I did help advise Marlon on some of his arcs and development. Namely the Ouerea revolution and a little bit of the Maraziites when they were founded.

My primary hope here to expand on what we have and to rework to a better canon. Build up, not out. We can work towards greater depth and detail for Unathi lore as a whole while trimming away at the mismatching parts and reworking aspects to fit the lore better, and to serve players well on the station itself. No more deviation of the core of the Unathi, we don't need to ram out new groups disconnected from lore or trying too hard to be unique. What we have works well enough.

I don't think I can really support this. You have a habit of being very vindictive and sometimes reductive about things in the lore you don't like. Often, instead of offering a way to make these concepts 'good', you'd rather remove them. This isn't what I'd like from a loredev. You're almost *too* invested in the lore and it can be offputting.

In that you get really set on something and really push it on people who disagree. This comes in things like you still calling forrl retcons about autakh and other chunks. I don't think this mindset is beneficial for unathi. I made a unique subcommunity with our unathi players and a big draw has been i believe the narrative stability they have. You can go back years and things from 2016 are still relevant and tied into todays unathi shenanigannery.

I wanna start by saying the choice for Unathi dev wasn't an easy choice. Firstly your essay is ten pages long, and it is EXPANSIVE. You've thought about a lot of different aspects of Unathi lore, how you would handle them, and what exactly you would change and how you would do it. The last two pages with interviews are extremely rich in flavor and absolutely excite the imagination. You're clearly dedicated, creative, and committed. Fascinatingly, you propose Unathi Enclaves in Tau Ceti, which coincidentally happens to be on my agenda to add alien enclaves to Tau Ceti in general, which really does show we have a strong common ground here. Popularity certainly has not decided my selection process in the past, as I've absolutely selected new maintainers which raised eyebrows and earned my criticism in the past. The issue here is that your competitor has also written an essay that really stands out. While it isn't as expansive it still hits on a number of hot button issues and also flavor-fully excites the imagination, while also enjoying large amounts of popular feedback. I can't say for certain how well I think you would fit in the team, because the only posts in your thread are negative feedback, but I think you're cool and you're one of the first friends I made on this server. I'm sure you'd fit in. It was a close call, but I did decide to accept Sleepy, but I wanna really encourage you to keep your eyes peeled for any future openings, since having someone this passionate about the lore and writing would be an absolute pleasure to welcome to the team.

tl;dr Application denied, but A++ work my dude, definitely try again later.
