Alicia Jewel Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 As it stands, the mining airlocks take forever to cycle to exterior. Is there any way we can make them faster? I don't know how atmospherics work, like, at all, but I saw another server that had a bunch of vent pumps in the airlock, and it cycled a lot faster. Would that work?
Jamini Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 All the vents on Aurora are slower than most stations, I've noticed. It would be nice if the syphon speed was buffed a bit across the board.
Conservatron Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 this should really be for all station airlocks. The only reasonable airlocks are the solar access airlocks with 1 square to fill/ empty. I believe it has to do with the nature of the pump system being pressure controlled? As such, the pressure in the canister is so much higher than the pressure in the room causing the pump to fill slowly, especially if there are more than just one square to worry about. Adding more vents would help, but it doesn't address the core issue that is making airlocks cycle so slowly
BadLemonsXI Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 Yes I would indeed like this. Both for Mining and Xenoarchaeology.
Lady_of_Ravens Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 Given the amount of griping I hear from miners about that airlock, it should probably be fixed. It's bad enough those poor wretches have to use pickaxes half the time...
EvilBrage Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 I'd funnel the air into a canister or room with no air and then have it gradually move from that canister to the actual air-holding canister. The airlocks should siphon fairly fast at that point.
ForgottenTraveller Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 At current it takes 5+ minutes to cycle an airlock without forcing it. Two more vents along the airlock would speed up the air removal. The problem only stems from the airlock having only one vent for six spaces while most others have one vent to two spaces. And it is murder for anyone trying to play mining.
Alicia Jewel Posted May 11, 2015 Author Posted May 11, 2015 I'm sorry to bump this, but this is still a giant paint in the ass to deal with. I play miner and xenoarch on a semi-regular basis, and having to wait forever for airlocks to cycle takes some of the fun out of a round and wastes a bunch of time. Can this please be addressed somehow?

This is probably an even more dumb suggestion because it's immersion breaking, but I suggest using the conveyor belts and "rest" to get in and out of places on the 'roid.
Jakers457 Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 I think it's because the mining dock uses pressure tanks. So it takes an age to syphon but a minute to fill.

You can do that with xenoarchaeology but not mining, but I really don't like to. Mah murzhon.
EvilBrage Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 Maybe if we replaced the pressure tanks with half-full canisters? Filling would definitely be slowed somewhat, but siphoning would be faster - the only problem I can see is if someone decides to force the airlock one too many times, you may run out of air to fill the room up with.
EvilBrage Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 I know atmos has been strange ever since a Bay merge that happened earlier this year - fire especially. I wonder if it's linked with that?

jackfractal Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 I don't know if anyone has mentioned it but the airlocks that are directly connected to atmos (aft starboard solars for example) now vastly over-pressurize the airlock chamber. I'm talking 500 kpa sometimes. I think the amount is linked to distro pressure but I'm not sure exactly what's happening.
