[Denied] Tex's Unathi Lore Deputy Application

Recommended Posts

Ckey/BYOND Username: Sampletex, previously simontheminer

Discord Name: SampleTex#1892

Position Being Applied For: Unathi Lore Dev

Past Experiences/Knowledge: I've created my own species from the ground up in my free time in high school as a hobby, something I haven't quite completed but when has lore ever been something you can slap a finished seal on?

Examples of Past Work: Tex's Rutikals As a note, this is something I did and still work on from time to time as a hobby and for myself, it's the biggest example of the lore I have made, since this has the most effort and time put into it, and even then it has not been polished for someone sitting down and reading it all in one go.

Additional Comments: I have obtained whitelists for Tajara, IPC, and Diona in addition to Unathi and have a fair bit of knowledge of the species and lore of the Aurora, which could definitely help with lore development for possible multi species things. This is also probably a dumb thing for me to be doing but you can't stop me from trying

Skalamar University Of Medicine Professor Found Dead In Lecture Hall

The somewhat controversial professor, Reruke Ikiilzu, from the Azyi Medical Guild was found dead in a lecture hall where he would be hosting a lecture on prosthetic limbs. Skalamar University had received a letter one week earlier addressed to Professor Ikiilzu, stating that they should make arrangements to meet their ancestors. This was dismissed by the professor due to the nature of the controversial topic he was slated to lecture on as nothing more than an empty threat. This however, proved to be more than just an empty threat, and the lethal duel between professor and Shadow Service guild member was recorded on a camera intended to record the lesson.

The video starts out with a Unathi in an unidentifiable suit materializing out of thin air in front of Ikiilzu, drawing a sword and pointing it at the professor, who looks shocked at the sudden appearance, before drawing a knife from their belt. The ensuing duel is one sided as the suited Unathi delivers a finishing blow and places a piece of paper on the body before vanishing just as quickly as they appeared before.

Investigations have confirmed that the paper that was dropped on the body of Reruke Ikiilzu is a Shadow Service insignia, a common thing for members of the Shadow Service to leave behind after their assassination duels. The Azyi Medical Guild has stated they will be increasing their own security in an effort to ensure the safety of students and staff at their campus, and will look into allowing faculty more than small weapons such as knives on campus to better defend themselves if such a thing happens again in the future. We spoke with some of the staff of Skalamar University who voiced their concerns about the situation.

Quote

"It's concerning that they would target a professor for simply teaching what they know, for all I know someone else could be attacked for simply teaching something that someone else decides is the wrong way to teach it, even if the message is the same."

Quote

"Ikiilzu was a, interesting, character, but never one that I thought would be attacked simply for teaching something. Are we going to let other's dictate what we can and can't teach to the students who attend our school?"

Quote

"I know most of the staff are likely worried that they will be targeted next, but I am more worried about the students, all it takes is someone disliking the book they picked up from a library, or asking the wrong question with the wrong person in the room, and they could be the next target for such an attack."

Skalamar University's security along with local authorities have asked for anyone who may have any information on the Shadow Service to step forward with it, and to report any suspicious activating, including those walking around in strange suits or seemingly vanishing into thin air with no reasonable explanation to their disappearance.

This is an interesting topic for an article and you definitely succeeded in pulling my attention with it, making me want to know more about how this would ripple out to effect more of Moghes if it did happen, so good job there! I'm also going to be That Person who drops questions on all the applications.

  1. Do you have any interest in a specific Unathi faction for edits/expansion?
  2. Expanding on number one, what aspects of Unathi lore in general do you think you'd like to tackle? Social culture? Religion? Galactic politics? Something else entirely?
  3. Would you say that you're more of an independent or collaborative writer when it comes to worldbuilding/lore?

1.  If my article is any indication of what I personally would love to expand, it would be the education guilds on Moghes, I feel there is so many different things I can help toy around with, and plenty of places for these guilds to pop up in the lore. Not to mention the Skalamar University only has a short page for it's lore, despite being an extremely old school.

2. I would love to get to work on different guilds and cultures, working on how they would interact with not only one another but people off of Moghes working with, as well as working on general culture, since I always find that to be fun to tinker with. Such as the Azyi Guild getting into a feud with the Shadow Service if such a thing as the articles event happened.

3. I can jump between the two! I love working with other people and discussing how we want/think the lore should go, but have no issues working by myself. I likely would be more collaborative with working on Unathi lore and Im sure collaboration never hurts.

I am going to bring up a topic that I feel I am distinctly biased towards, within reason.

What is your opinion of the Queendom specifically? I understand that it is conflicting among some people. Is it unfunded? Or is it one of the aspects of lore you would want to see used in the greater scheme in some way? Since its addition, nothing has been done with it, and I am curious if you would wish to pursue something with them.

I am in love with the article and your ideas on the feuds between guilds. I look forward to it being fleshed out.

I must ask, since we discussed this before, I want to know where you stand with the Aut’akh and what you intend to do with them. Since the removal of the subspecies and the merge of the augments to the Unathi, the Aut’akh have been ... lacking. If you have ideas on how to get them a bit of attention, I would like to hear them.

I am eager to see what your response is to FreshRefreshments and mine. Good luck!

I would love to see more done with it, and personally would spend some time to think about expanding it's culture, such as new sayings/slang that may be used in place of other traditional language that might be seen elsewhere, since the flipping of gender roles there could provide a very interesting new way of life for the Unathi. It has a lot of interesting potential in my eyes, and I'd love to try and expand upon it more. Ideas to come on them if I end up working on the lore team, and hopefully I'll be able to pump a new, fresh breath of air into the Queendom rather than letting it sit on the page as a thing that kind of exists, hell, maybe even story arcs involving the Unathi that the queen is getting out of the wastelands and into safety.

Code wise, I wouldn't be able to do much, since I don't have the know how on that front. Lore wise, I plan on working on more kinds of implants that might be used by Aut'akh that are still on Moghes, mostly flavor things, or expand on the Implements used in soul anchors, maybe specialty programs for the different clans that exist within the Aut'ahk communes, which mechanically serve no purpose but open the door for flavor that could be added to their character. I also would go through and tweak wording here and there, to try and better convey the situation they are in, mostly concerning Oss. As a final note on the Aut'ahk, I feel like there was a wasted opportunity with communes drifting apart with their versions of Oss to the point of incompatibility in some cases, and may do more with that to help give a little more life to the different communes, which hopefully will give players more ideas and reasons to play an Aut'ahk, rather than just having them as a thing that exists, especially since mechanics should not be the main reason a player is drawn towards playing a species. Otherwise I may tweak their government (or lack there of) in the future, but how I would do so in such a way that is organic and logical is to be worked on.
