Lmwevil
BYOND Key: Lmwevil Character Names: Miranda Astrava, Viax Ma, Forgotten Glimpse Of The Perfect Matter, etc etc etc. Species you are applying to play: Skrell Snax What color do you plan on making your first alien character: Dark Skinned Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Absolutely Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: Well I fuckin love the squid aesthetic irl so that’s a minor aspect. In reality part of why is because it’s the only other species that can be Captain, as well as the fact that they have some of the most fleshed out lore on the server. In addition their interconnected nature in galactic affairs makes them very roleplay heavy with a lot of factors to keep in mind. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Largely that they are emotive with their tendrils instead of their largely unmoving face, and that they come from an extremely authoritarian society that has literal thought police at all times. They also see things on a larger scale, and smaller conflicts with people are barely something to keep in mind for their perspective compared to becoming a social exile. Character Name: Atuq'Tuaq Qurgl Please provide a short backstory for this character Atuq’Taq began their work in the Federation at a young age with a strong eye for politics, being born a receiver made this remarkably easy for them to achieve given how quickly they adhered to the Federation line. They spent time studying social nuance, and after hitting their early hundreds decided to spend the next seventy years studying psychology to better understand those they represent. Although the added bonus of being able to better use the minds of their political enemies to further their own career, was certainly something that was considered. They managed to grow quite a few grudges that they spitefully carried out after re-entering the political spheres, including causing a mildly noteworthy scientist in social media technologies to lose their idol status by falsifying their research into social media based artificial intelligence because of their parent having been a long standing enemy of Atuq’Tuaq’s own. Given another thirty to fifty years of entering the political sphere, Atuq found themselves in a situation where they had lost the great and never-ending chess game that is Federation discourse. Having had the blessing that one of their partners managed to have a child, but having burned many bridges in the echelons of Skrell society through ruthless tactics. They knew their child was likely screwed if they didn’t change course immediately, and began to make as many favours and debts so others would look out for their child’s best interests. Some enemies have diffused their hatred because of a willing stepping down from Jargon politics and leaving Jargon space to work in NanoTrasen, effectively completely removing their rival from the equation barring visits back home. However this wasn’t without political manipulations even at this time, quickly shifting in this new corporate environment away from Jargon technology to position themselves in HR. Utilizing connections with the workforce while being efficient at shutting down the majority of situations with little corporate expense, they grew up the ranks of NanoTrasen on Mendell. They unfortunately plateaued on their career path, a glorified executive at the very best, a manager in practice. They decided the only way forward was the Odin, more specifically getting a transfer and getting the credentials to act as a Head of Personnel on NanoTrasen facilities, coordinating civilian matters. Skipping forward quite some time, and an extremely lucrative career, Atuq’Tuaq managed to land a position as a Captain on the Aurora. The unfortunate issue being that their career had actually plateaued, and nothing they could do could elevate themselves. A lifetime of trying to get more, and finally being actually stuck in this position, and never able to involve themselves in the politics of Jargon again. Atuq’Tuaq quickly grew a reputation for being strict to regulations and an exemplar of NanoTrasen’s virtues, while never once breaking their Jargon cultures and traditions as a Qublak follower. Their advanced knowledge with emotions and xeno-psychology allowed them the potential to relate and aid the crew while also holding a high bar of expectations. What do you like about this character? It shows off the usually ignored area of Jargon cutthroat politics and grudges being used against a player character because of them being effectively an asshole. But the fact they also are not irredeemably bad, caring about their family and their newborn enough to discard nearing two hundred years of work to get where they had been. A person who above all else craves success and namely to grow and get even more success, addicted to that. Then because of such, leveling out at the time they are playable (mid 300s ish I’m feelin) because of adapting to not needing to be part of that rat race to always be better. Of course remaining strict and keeping order but having that deeply empathetic touch with those they interact with. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I’d say pretty good. Caelphon
You tease, you said you were applying like in January. Anyhow, lets get to the crucks of it, right? Whilst you accurately portray Skrell Lore -- I have a bunch of questions: 1. What about their familial relationships? (https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Skrell_Relationships#Familial_Relationships). What can you tell me about their Qrri'Myaq? How has this affected your Skrell? What relationship does your Skrell have with their tadpole? Why have they chosen this relationship? 2. What other relationships does Atuq'Tuaq have? (https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Skrell_Relationships#Relationships) How does this affect them today? How has their quya adjusted to moving to the Republic of Biesel (did they come with, or has your Skrell immigrated alone? What is happening with their child?) 3. Where in the Jargon Federation has your Captain originated? This is really just a personal question. 4. How has the Warbling Arc (https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Warbling_:_The_Musical) affected your Captain? What do you think of the Warbling Arc? I'd prefer both an IC and OOC perspective here. 5. How did Glorsh-Omega (https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Skrell_Relationships#Relationships) have an impact your Skrell? I assume they were born during the Era of Synthetic Oppression (2050 - 2192) if they are a Captain? How did the remnants of this intelligence affect your Skrell? Do they have any bias to Synthetics? 6. How does your Skrell view the Jargon Federation, do they harbour resentments that align with the illusive resistance groups throughout the entirety of the Orion Spur? Lmwevil
1. Their Qrri'Myaq would have been someone to have been living prior to Glorsh's uprising and some years afterwards. Based on the rough mental maths in my head, Atuq would have been like on the tail end of Glorsh. The last 50 years or so? Generally speaking the mentor relationship would have been a really strained thing during these times, with Atuq being very much brainwashed at the time by Glorsh until being broken out of that when noticing just how horrible the actions it took were. It led them to value connections as a way to ground themselves from their reciever status, as well as a way to help themselves know what is real and what is not. Their relationship with their tadpole is rather weak given the distance, however every year for about a month they take a break to go back to their family and see them. Generally speaking most of the connection is through recorded messages sent back and forth and a long series of 'questions and answers' that they recorded for a bunch of situations they may not be there to witness and give advice for. The why is simple, as part of their removal from Jargon politics this included a physical distancing to be sure they weren't lying for a period of time. But also that they don't feel their skillset is at all useful for parenting. 2. Atuq'Tuaq has very little actual personal friendships that they garnered in the Federation besides their Qu'Poxii of whom they made the tadpole with. It's that their entire life was a large torrent of plans, schemes and a desire for more. Being in a relationship would be a dedication of energy away from their goals, picking up a Qu'Poxii during their time in the field of psychology because of the only time their life was slow enough to build that level of connection. Most familial connections are rather disjointed given the period with Glorsh-Omega and her Myak'Lak being collaborators and handled accordingly post that event. Their parents largely distanced themselves or have died by this time from aging or Glorsh's own machinations, and had far less imapct than their Qrri'Myaq. On their family, they moved alone while their family benefits from financial support and accommodation from prior Federation political status. This has caused severe strain on the relationship, and their Qu'Poxii has formed other Qu'Poxii to compensate the neglect. Their partner is taking care of the child. 3. Qerrbalak was their place of birth, with movement to Qerr'Malic back and forth over their political career to show 'good faith to the citizens' and 'oversee projects'. Their child was born on Qeerbalak and their home is also located there. Maaaaaybe one visit in a suit just to take a LOOK at Aliose but being in a suit wouldn't be their taste in things to say the least. 4. OOCly the Warbling was kinda a shitfest, I like the premise but the execution was well uh, infamous. The idea of an AI buried in the encrypted archives and all that is super dope, but uhhhhhhhhhhhhh the rest of it was awful, in my honest opinion. ICly it just sorta solidifies their viewpoint that we should all adhere to the Jargon Federation 'party line' as it were, the status quo is safe and nobody can be hurt if they just obey. No horrible AI can be awoken if the rules and regulations set in place, are never broken again. 5. Probably the most impactful thing of their entire life was to grow up and mature in a society run by Glorsh, in the tail end of the madness of the Intelligence. Their family torn apart by differing opinions, wishes to rebel, those who openly collaborated and so forth causing damage that could never be repaired. They have a deep seeded trauma of these times, however thanks to hundreds of years of therapy have not much cognition issues involving synthetics. The Remnants were a nightmare to say the least, seeing what is the closest thing to a real life devil in the machine as it were. Given their heritage and age, they definitely have a paranoia of synthetic life, however understand that the potential for a singularity is so low with current human methods that they are fairly inert. Largely they either have too much personality or not enough, and are an odd echo of life. Though they hide their bias behind several centuries long professionalism, class and long term thinking. Being bigoted towards a robot isn't going to serve their career well, nor is it going to make the robot work any better. 6. Despite everything, they believe the Jargon Federation has flaws but is the perfect society for the Skrell. They think that without the control of the Federation that there would be anarchy and more importantly, a second Glorsh event from the lack of utter control. In short the Federation is imperfect but preferable to another singularity, and that even though they can't visit their home for long, it's the system they prefer. Although obviously they harbor some resentment towards the Federation that they had to abandon everything to protect the future of their child. Link to comment
