Gr33d IPC APP - 2.0

Recommended Posts

BYOND Key: Gr33dy

Character Names: Mend Bloodshed in the Inky Cosmos, Lost in Cardboard Found in Transit, Other humans and borg(s) that I don't play at the moment.

Species you are applying to play: IPC

What color do you plan on making your first alien character: (Color of your character; Dionaea & IPCs exempt)

Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: yes

Why do you wish to play this specific race:  IPC range wildly in their designs so much that I feel I could come up with so many characters, from a shell mimicking humans to a almost robotic acting IPC who just does what it is programed to do. That amount of variety sounds rather tantalizing and RICH with RP potential. The lore is also wonderfully deep with the factions, The Golden Deep and The Trinary Perfection. I also love how they are seemingly very specialized and thus can be perfected for the task at hand, both mechanically and personality wise leading to a large well of characters. Lastly, I want to be able to go back to my borg roots, but like, without as many restrictions to the tools I have and the character development. I loved RPing as a "robot" even if I was still new to the game and server and I think if I go back to a bit of roboting I could do it even better then before.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: They are all very different depending on the model/character so if you do not mind I would like to delve into the more robotic type of IPC as they are going to be the type this app is based on and will be my first IPC. If this is an issue please do let me know and I will fix it as soon as I can: So, robotic IPC are very different as you are playing as, essentially a program, one that is mostly made to do what it does and in most cases, values "sentient" life more then its own. Of course they would have self preservation, but if they had to choose between their life and a human, well, that's kind of what they were made to do. Do things humans do not want to, or would be hazardous to do.

Character Name: ISU-Jacket

Please provide a short backstory for this character: ISU-Jacket is a G2 IPC designed to remove hazardous debris, explosives, and de-escalation to protect sentient life and minimize damage to itself. Provided they are not needed in that role they are equipped with security and weapon knowledge. They are being sent to the station for calibration and use of its service in a low gravity environment. Prior to being sent to the station they were used to defuse undetonated ordinance on planets and defuse bombs in hostage situations. When not in use for these services they would often be stationed in banks, although never needed to engage its combat protocols. It was equipped with negotiation protocols as well, causing the IPC to act as a middle man in case of a negotiation or need to trade people/materials in a hostage situation and weigh the risks/rewards, although, like the combat protocols, they never had to use them in their time off station. Outside of these jobs they don't really have much of a life as they are just a tool used to dissuade violence. However, due to their specialization into de-escalation and disarming, they would not be able to develop as much experience when it comes to guns or combat.

What do you like about this character? I love how I can just, play chill robot dude who just walks around and checks up on people. Watching and making sure their their presence is known and makes those its around feel safer. I also would like a security character who is not all about escalation but instead deals with de-escalation of situations/actually not just shoot at people in a hostage situation, as I feel a lot of security is very prone to just shooting when escalation gets even the littlest bit high.

How would you rate your role-playing ability? 5-7 usually.

Notes: The name jacket comes from the word: Flak Jacket.

Hi! Thanks for applying, I have some questions and concerns for the application first.

Could you expand on this selections? In particular, their status in the universe, how they think, and how they behave? Keep in mind that even though there are distinctions between an IPC which is not as expressive as a human, there are still similarities.

Please provide a short backstory for this character:

Could you describe an ISU's responsibilities? What about Jacket in particular? Where were they assigned? Why did Idris make them a bomb disposal expert instead of handling debt collection?

Could you talk more about ISU-Jacket's personality? How do they behave? How old are they? Do they have any memorable experiences?

Could you expand on this selections? In particular, their status in the universe, how they think, and how they behave? Keep in mind that even though there are distinctions between an IPC which is not as expressive as a human, there are still similarities: So the way they think is based on cause and effect. And that is how they learn. In the universe at large they are property with being allowed to be self owned in some parts of the universe, basically being slaves. They often speak, even if they are very human like, in a more respectful and quaint manner as often they do not have the same mannerisms as organic life.

Could you describe an ISU's responsibilities? What about Jacket in particular? Where were they assigned? Why did Idris make them a bomb disposal expert instead of handling debt collection:

After looking into this more, I believe I misread a bit of both Idris and Zavodskoi when I was choosing who they would work for as I knew I wanted one of them. I had assumed that Idris had a wing for contracted security for some reason and that Zavodskoi was moving away from using IPC in lore. So I am sorry about that. I would change them to be a Z.I. IPC with the name Z.I. Jacket with light changes to their back story, they likely would not have guarded banks although this would not change much about them in the grand picture. However, as to not dodge the question. ISU IPCs are used for debt collect on often more dangerous targets. Jackets responsibilities were in making sure there would be no more undetonated ordinance in an area, whether this be a road in an area where a war is ending, or a farm where a war is ongoing. Wherever Zavodskoi sends them they go, no questions asked, whether they are being sent their because the company was paid or because their are political reasons, it does not matter to Jacket.

Could you talk more about ISU-Jacket's personality? How do they behave? How old are they? Do they have any memorable experiences: Jacket is more of a machine like IPC who would be more "programmed" to speak in preapproved responses with minimal leeway such as, "Hello, how are you doing today?" or "We are going to: Location." with location being replaced by the name of the location of course. They would not be to old, around 2 years old. As for memorable experiences, not really. I like the idea of them being an IPC who never really worked around many people, mostly just being alone when doing their very mundane job of dealing with bomb disposal only to be pushed to their next location to do it again. The idea is kinda comfy to me for some reason, almost like their whole life they have just been doing the same thing without even knowing why, but they don't mind at all because, I guess they are sort of happy doing it.

What would change if this character was a human instead: Their personality would be wildly different. Jacket for instance would be a machine and talk like one, using logic first and for most over complex human emotions. If they were to walk into the bar for instance, instead of grabbing a drink and chatting like a human would, they would stand there keep watch over the bar before leaving. If asked questions about why they are there, instead of answering like a human would they would answer more like: "I am keeping watch over: the bar. Is there anything else I can help you with?"

The backstory still doesn't provide insight to a personality of a proper character that's been around for two years. Megacorporation IPCs are forced to interact with their human supervisors as well as other IPCs like them, so just having them not really work with people is a bit odd and doesn't provide anything interesting for us to judge if we can trust you to play an IPC around people on the station. You also appear to have changed your backstory to be one of a Zavodskoi unit than an Idris one, without talking a about the harsh disciplinary methods that are an everyday reality for these IPCs.

Lastly, the application format calls for approximately two paragraphs of background, not one. Please reapply with a better and more expansive backstory, one that provides more information on the personality of a character that wasn't planted into the world, but was molded by it and the experiences they've gathered. You may reapply in a week.
