Gr33d
BYOND Key: Gr33dy Character Names: Mend Bloodshed in the Inky Cosmos, Lost in cardboard Found in Transit, Zeta AI, among other semi retired humans and borgs. Species you are applying to play: Vaurca What color do you plan on making your first alien character: RGB 55, 0, 120 Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: yes Why do you wish to play this specific race: The Vaurca have such a rich and deep lore that leave me wanting to interact with them and play as one. I love how they traveled here using STL and are just hardly welcome due to their shear population and need for phoron. The way the vaurcae are bioengineered as well as mechanically engineered makes for an amazing variety of play styles including their bound which are basically (and tragically) just living items. I could make a bunch of vaurcae all with vastly different personalities. Mechanically they are very interesting too, being very physically weak and reliant on phoron, koi's and medical personnel if they get harmed. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Vaurca are always very loyal to their hive. Boasting about their hive and the queens within them as they are sprayed with pheromones when they are developing to insure their loyalty. They are also looked down on by other xenos as they are seen as pests by some as well as just a nasty race in general. Often they will find themselves heavily modified for their job and often have the job for a reason pertaining to their hive. The way they talk is different as well as they often talk in simple ways due to them not knowing a lot of basic and how its also quite hard to speak basic for them even with their electronic voice box. They also do not like the light, making them very different then my usual dionae characters. Of course there is also the fact that they know that when they die they will be uploaded to VR meaning that they find more joy in death then humans as they are assured they will meet each other again. Character Name: Ka'Akaix'Jar C’thur Please provide a short backstory for this character: Ka'Viax'Jar C’thur was born to Ta’Akaix’Xetl’jyatk’yatu C’thur, the Voracious Queens brood. Known for her love of hedonistic pleasures and pride in her work. Due to being born to such an imposing figure unbound, Ka'Viax'Jar C’thur found itself spending most if its time in VR, lounging about the hiveship, and finding new pleasures, pains, and "treasures." Often when searching for their "treasures" around the decaying hiveship, they would resort to taking it among themselves to do the "back breaking work" of cleaning the other lazy vaurca's trash and looking through it for "valuables" to hoard for itself. They would find great interest in finding and hoarding shiny valuable looking things for itself in exchange for cleaning the debris around the ship before heading back to VR or laze around on a bed made of bound while being hand fed koi's from another bound. When the hiveship arrived within Glorashi it was found that they would be staying there until further notice, they thought that it would be a good time to branch out and see what shiny things they can find out in the cosmos. As they arrived in the Orion spur they were chosen to be a part of an initiative to send "scouts" of sorts across the Orion spur to see what pleasures or pains await them. Ka'Viax'Jar C’thur was chosen to go to Tau Ceti and find work as well as reporting back to the queen to their findings. They would work the odd janitorial job around, taking great pride in how clean they could get everything. Every nook and cranny would be painstakingly cleaned to a bitter shine. They would of course still look through the trash to find the odd coin, cool looking soda can or box with a neat picture on it, and bring it back to their tiny, yet wonderfully clean living space on the Odin. Eventually they would gain enough experience to get a long term job on the Aurora where they learned many other vaurcae already work! What do you like about this character: I really like the idea of a prideful janitor who is a huge kleptomaniac for trash based treasures. Mind you, they would not steal stuff from people or from the station if it was being used or will be used, as that would be detrimental to others works. Something Ka'Viax'Jar C’thur would find down right sinful as they have a very good work ethic and assume others have the same. I can't wait to walk around with a bunch of trash, all proud of a great days work, walk into the bar and ask for a "teathpazte pleaze." How would you rate your role-playing ability: 6-7 I'm always trying to improve. Notes: If I got anything wrong with lore here I am sorry. I looked all over the wiki for context to content that I could not find. If anything here is incorrect please let me know so I can fix it. I am quite a fan of this character so if there is anything I can do to nudge them in the right direction please do let me know! Edited October 7, 2021 by Gr33d Link to comment
Desven
Hello, thank you for applying. As a note, we don't really want people to apply with Viax characters, because they're not so much as characters most of the time and it's hard to build a story around them. However, there a few other problems. 1. Vaurcae are born out of a Queen, but that is to be expected. While Vaurcae are much like ants and 'eggs' are larvae that become pupae, I feel like the word 'born' and your usage is implying some sort of nursing from Xetl herself, when there would be other Tas that would have nursed it, and it is most likely no personal contact (unless Unbound and by summon on her VR) would occur. A janitor Bound, however, would not know her personally. 2. Additionally, a Bound feeding other Bound is really far fetched, and while it's true that there might be more idle or 'lazy' Vaurcae, the Hiveship was mostly a silent place when they were trying to save resources in their last ordeal; however, Xetl despite her fame is in charge of the augments for the Hive, and her Bound and Unbound would be busy around that, if not in VR all time. 3. The Sensate is not something Bound follow, but this would be more reasonable regardless when the app is changed. However, the concept of the Sensate having a janitor do field research sounds a bit off to me honestly, I would rather just have your character be an avid follower of it instead. The Hives are all exporting labor to Tau Ceti currently, and Xetl is no stranger despite her relationship with her sisters, so a simple 'it was shipped to work at Tau Ceti' works. I'll ask some questions after the app is fixed. Link to comment
Gr33d
As a note, we don't really want people to apply with Viax characters, because they're not so much as characters most of the time and it's hard to build a story around them. However, there a few other problems: This is my bad, I did not intend for them to be a Viax. I'm not sure how I got the two mixed up, however the character would be and was intended to be a Akaix. 1. Of course, the wording here could have been better and I did not mean to imply they would have known her personally. After reading this however I can totally understand how it reads this way and went back to edit it a few hours ago to distance them from the queen directly. 2.Making the character more VR centric makes sense as I intended for it to be implied they would spend most of their time in VR. 3.Oh wonderful! This clears up some questions I had regarding the Sensate and cleans up my reasonings for why they are in Tau Ceti. The idea of them being a avid follower of them sounds very fun! If I am not mistaken it seems to me most of the issues stated seem to stem from the mix up between Viax and Akaix I had. I will be editing the app tomorrow morning to bring these realities to life. Thank you for the feed back! Link to comment
Gr33d
Character Name: Ka'Akaix'Jar C’thur Please provide a short backstory for this character: Ka'Akaix'Jar C’thur was born to Ta’Akaix’Xetl’jyatk’yatu C’thur's brood. Known for her love of hedonistic pleasures, pride in her work, and of course being in charge of the ever important augments. Due to being part of such a figures brood, they were lucky to find themselves unbound as a majority of those in her brood are bound due to the lesser queens love of excess. Ka'Akaix'Jar C’thur found itself spending most if its time in VR, for the small amount they were not in VR, they would often find themselves cleaning used or older augments, cleaning every intricate detail within them, polishing it and the parts within till it shined like a light, to insure the safe installation in their future host. On the off chance they would not be in VR or cleaning augments, they would spend short amounts of time searching for "treasures" around the decaying hiveship, they would resort to taking it among themselves to do the "back breaking work" of sifting through the other lazy vaurca's trash and looking through it for "valuables" to hoard for itself. They would find great interest in finding and hoarding shiny valuable looking things for itself in exchange for sorting the debris around the ship, before heading back to VR or to laze around on a bed made of bound while being hand fed koi's from another bound to get their nutrition before going off to clean more augments, or slip back into VR. When the hiveship arrived within Glorashi it was found that they would be staying there until further notice, and were chosen to assist the great people of Tau Ceti where their labor would be used to their fullest as they find work and well as reporting back to the hive. They would work the odd janitorial job around, taking great pride in how clean they could get everything. Every nook and cranny would be painstakingly cleaned to a bitter shine. They would of course, still look through the trash to find the odd coin, cool looking soda can or box with a neat picture on it, and bring it back to their tiny, yet wonderfully clean living space on the Odin, where they would admire their mighty stash. Eventually they would gain enough experience to get a long term job on the Aurora where they learned many other vaurcae already work! I believe with that I have softened some of the rougher edges of the application. I do want to say that while I am not sure of the actual chronological age of them at the moment as I still want to figure out how long a vaurca can live if they spend most of their time in VR. I do think that their age outside of VR would be middle aged at around 10, however, it is likely that this number would go down depending on how old a vaurca can be spending time in VR as it would seem like they do not age in VR from what I read on the wiki. Desven
Hello again. Yes, Vaurcae don't age during in VR. More precisely, due to the use of cryostasis pods. Now, most of the cleaning and repairing work would probably be done by Bound, especially something as tedious as the surgical cleanse of old augments, which wouldn't really relate much to the janitorial job still. I would recommend that you make Jar have had little use while the Vaurcae left Sedantis, and to spend more time in VR. Maybe it could had been born in space, if you're really keen on making it older. Could probably just have a general custodian position on some sector of the ship or something. But it would have spent many years, probably, without moving and trying to save up resources in the real world. Now, some questions. What does Jar think about the Sensate emotions and does it have a favorite one? How does Jar relate to other broods of C'thur? How will it relate to the Zo'ra and the K'lax Hives? Additionally, what does it think about xenos, especially Skrell, as Jar would've met them way before humans. Despite the Sensate being a philosophy that can be seen almost as an organized school of thought, it's not a religion. Does Jar follow any religion? Lastly, how much has being moved to Tau Ceti have affected Jar? What does it think, over all, of this new world? Not just Biesel, but the many changes its people have had to adapt to in a really short timespan (~6 years). Link to comment

But it would have spent many years, probably, without moving and trying to save up resources in the real world: Understood, I shall update the character to better fall in line with this. What does Jar think about the Sensate emotions and does it have a favorite one: They would follow them as a way to enjoy life and experience feelings most would not dare to try. out of those its favorite one would be pleasure, although they would not specialize in any of them in particular as that would be peculiar. How does Jar relate to other broods of C'thur? How will it relate to the Zo'ra and the K'lax Hives: They would obviously get along well with other unbound members of the C'thur hive, looking up to those who are older and more experienced then them. As for Zo'ra and K'lax hives, it would feel as though those hives are "lesser" for lack of a better word, but still trust them over other xenos. Additionally, what does it think about xenos, especially Skrell, as Jar would've met them way before humans: Jar would not think much of non-skrell xenos. They would often approach them with very light suspicion as they would find that on occasion other xenos would be very xenophobic. It would approach and speak to other xenos in good faith however. As for what they think of skrell, they would have gotten use to the way they work more than other xenos, they would not trust them as much as they would trust other vaurca, but they would not distrust them either and approach them often with a more casual cadence. Despite the Sensate being a philosophy that can be seen almost as an organized school of thought, it's not a religion. Does Jar follow any religion: they would be a believer of the classical pantheon and would see the fact that they still have its queen alive as a sign that she is the strongest bringer of life. Often they would feel bad that the other hives do not have their queens with them and pity them. Lastly, how much has being moved to Tau Ceti have affected Jar? What does it think, over all, of this new world? Not just Biesel, but the many changes its people have had to adapt to in a really short timespan (~6 years). It would be quite a shock at first, but would try to cope with the shock by telling itself that this is all just a good way to learn new ways to experience the Sensate emotions. While this reason would be shaky it would assist them in integrating into this new world and would grow into a safety blanket of sorts. Assuring itself that all of this change would be for the best and they would come out better for it. After better adjusting to the changes it would find that the new world it found itself in would likely be the future for their people. It is an alien system for sure, but if they are going to live there, they have to make changes to themselves, and maybe later, far after Jar is gone, the vaurca will be as unrecognizable as the vaurca of old with their wings. Jar will just have to be one of the first to try to pave a path for its people, much like the other vaurcae around it. Hello again. Yes, Vaurcae don't age during in VR. Roostercat
Hi. After some thinking, I've come to the conclusion that you have some misconceptions. You have a grasp on how vaurca are and the basics of how the hives work, but the finer details are eluding you. For example, The part in relations with other hives. The K'lax and the C'thur really don't like eachother due to the K'lax having a belief that the C'thur stole a K'laxan hiveship to get to where they are, which spiraled into hatred. BUT They are small misconceptions, and not enough to break lore too horribly. Thus, I have faith you can play a Vaurca, and will be accepting this application. Please do DM me or my deputies with ANY questions you have, or things you are iffy on. Have fun! Link to comment
