BYOND Key: Mneme
Character Names:

  • Fenah Veral, Captain
  • Samir Naifeh, Chief Medical Officer
  • Nariah Sewell, Head of Security
  • Haji Antoun, Security Officer
  • Hesso Kouri, Station Engineer

Species you are applying to play: Vaurca
What color do you plan on making your first alien character: RGB 15, 41, 98 (C'thur, Queen of Masques Brood)
Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question.

Why do you wish to play this specific race:

Vaurca are particularly unique among the alien whitelists available because of their originality. They're inherent to Aurora, and because of that, the lore team has been able to better shape the preconceived notions about the species, rather than allowing other server's interpretations of what Vaurca are to take center stage. Additionally, their collective existence and how they live in the gameworld now is rich and unique, and offers a lot of potential for roleplay. I personally plan on playing as an Akaix, but if I want a relaxing shift I could easily create a Viax and have the mindlessness of the character take over. Additionally the unique dynamics that each Ka, Za, Ra, and Ta bring to the table when interacting with different situations is something I'd like to explore. The ability to chitter is also a plus. *chitter

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human:

The only similarity that I have seen when comparing it with humanity is the ability to speak basic and sometimes walking on two legs, though that is not a universal within a Vaurcan hive. Everything else is distinct and uniquely Vaurcan. The way they act, the way they think, the way they communicate, and so much more. Vaurca are, in essence, a completely alien species. Something that highlights Vaurcan' uniqueness would be the avowals and the backstory behind said avowals. No other species requires an Avowal of Responsibility, not the dionae even though they are arguably more alien than the Vaurca, and not the Tajara or Dregs, who have some issues with authority, some of them at-least. This avowal is necessary because of the nearly unshakable connection between an individual vaurca and the hive. Avowals also provide a sense of progression for the unbound as they slowly acclimate to what to them is a foreign and alien surrounding.

Character Name: Ra'Akaix'Teox C'thur

Please provide a short backstory for this character
Resources and debts almost always equal power. They are the one thing that has kept the C'thur hive going ever since the Great Hive War, and they are the one thing that is key to their independence. Capitalizing on the universal desire for resources, the C'thur have defined themselves around certain adaptations that are the most advantageous for such an environment and the High Queen of C'thur, the Queen of Masques, is no exception. Teox was born relatively recently, the Type E Vaurca was tasked with two purposes, one, to find a way to maximize the one thing all organic species require, food, as where there is food, there is control, and where there is control there is power. And two, to find a way to industrialize the production of genetically modified botanical goods. In order to do this, Teox was imbibed with the knowledge of advanced genetic modification and an innate understanding of botanical and xenobotanical processes. The defensive and industrious nature of the Type E quickly overtook its work, creating phantasmagorical botanical masterpieces on an industrial scale. Teox's work did not go unnoticed, and like many of their brood, once it proved effective it was used to further strengthen the relationship between Zeng Hu Pharmaceuticals and the Queen of Masques.

Now under the employ of Zeng-Hu Pharmaceuticals, Teox was quickly whisked away to a secure research facility within the purview of the Mendell City Branch. There Teox was under constant surveillance and subject to heavy restrictions concerning where it could go, and what it could do. Relegated mostly to its lab, it worked primarily on developing a robust food source that rapidly adapts to the surrounding environment and generates nutrients, minerals, and other beneficial compounds that is lacking within the surrounding environment. However in traditional Zeng-Hu fashion, its was also forced to work on everything from botanically invasive species that overrun the local flora, to carnivorous vines that consume monkey's whole.

Satisfied with Teox's work, Zeng-Hu transferred it to the NSS Aurora, and authorized it for work on the SCCV Horizon. There it will continue with its original primary objectives, developing innovative food sources, and maximizing the production of genetically modified xenobotanical goods.

What do you like about this character?
I haven't had a chance to explore xenobotany in depth yet and I think the nature of a Type E fits it perfectly. I like that this character is not necessarily solely destructive, unlike most of the xenobotanists played at current, and instead has the goal of producing food options. I can fully see a lot of roleplay generated from its affiliations with Zeng-Hu Pharmaceuticals and the Queen of Masques, and am excited to start playing if my application is accepted.

How would you rate your role-playing ability? 9/10. There is always room for improvement but I've been doing it for quite some time and believe I do it well.

Thanks for applying and sorry for the late reply. I'll make a few questions.

1. How does Teox feel about Zeng-Hu and their corporate values?

2. Was it too much of a shock to interact with species other than human and Skrell?

3. Does Teox have an opinion in the recent developments of the C'thur-Jargon relationships, as well as the slow recovery of its queen?

Thanks for applying and sorry for the late reply. I'll make a few questions.

1. How does Teox feel about Zeng-Hu and their corporate values?

2. Was it too much of a shock to interact with species other than human and Skrell?

3. Does Teox have an opinion in the recent developments of the C'thur-Jargon relationships, as well as the slow recovery of its queen?

1. Teox is fascinated with the keiretsu and sees some resemblances, albeit slight, between the highly specialized nature of the corporation, that being made up of individual specialized corporation who all contribute to each other's success and the hive system which is comprised primarily of hyper-specialists that all contribute to the hive's success. Additionally Zeng-Hu's prioritization on being the best of the best speaks to Teox, who also wants to be the best at what it does so as to bolster the hive and perfect its work.

2. Teox's interaction with species other than humans and skrell came at somewhat of an inquisitive shock, and its fascination was both contemplative and cautionary. I fully have Teox act apprehensive around unathi and tajara specifically, given both the anatomical and physiological differences that make them somewhat foreign to what Teox would be used to, and the overall cultural connotations that Teox would most likely have a basic knowledge of. Those connotations would consist of the Unathi being viewed as warlike and deceptive, given their affiliation with the K'lax, and Tajarans being untrustworthy and volitile, given their penchant for rebellions and ethnic stratification.

3, Teox's opinion on the recent developments of the C'thur-Jargon relationship is apprehensive yet neutral, leaning slightly towards minorly supportive. The advent of the Qrra'Myaq-Kaax were a somewhat unwelcome development to Teox given its cautionary and skeptical nature, yet he is in lockstep with the support shown to them by the C'thur hive. As previously mentioned, Teox takes the more neutral stance on the federation at large, and is of the mind that the slow recovery of its queen and the assistance given by the Federation to its queen falls more towards having a hold over a powerful hive, than a concern for the general wellbeing of the queen. Furthermore, Teox is skeptical about the nature of the treatments given to her by the Federation, yet trusts in the queen and the hive as a whole to ensure she is receiving beneficial care. Additionally Teox is concerned with the Federations obfuscated attempts at deciphering virtual reality, of which it views as a place where only Vaurca should be or know what happens within, and is for lack of a better word, is especially sacred.

I hope this answers your questions, please let me know if you have any additional questions or would like me to elaborate further.
