meep109 Posted December 18, 2022 Posted December 18, 2022 (edited) BYOND Key: meep109 Character Names: Dawood Abdul, Carter Manning Species you are applying to play: Skrell What color do you plan on making your first alien character: Dark Blue Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: The main draw is likely one of the richest histories of any species in the Spur, maybe except the Vaurca. The modern age Skrell also provides an interesting dynamic in terms of its near total hate towards synthetic lifeforms, and a near police state within the Nralakk Federation, due to the psionic wake promoting a unity on a scale which not any other species in the Spur can compare to. The exceedingly long lifespans, psionic abilities, and social credit systems also open up unique opportunities for roleplay not available to the human race. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: The Skrell have had a long and storied history, being the oldest Spur-borne species on the server, and their extremely long lifespans provide an entirely different mindset. The culture also provides an entirely different view compared to Humanity - the general attitude towards synthetics is extremely conflicted compared to most humans, and familial bonds tend to involve a deeper emphasis on a polygamous relationship. The governmental entities are entirely unified compared to humanity. When playing as a human, you have an absolutely massive amount of origins and governments to pick to, but Skrellian society tends to be mostly unified under a singular manner - the Nralakk Federation Character Name:(Character name) Xim’Eq Lixuq Please provide a short backstory for this character (Approximately two paragraphs) Xim’Eq Lixuq, a Xiialt skrell, was born on Aweji on 2322 - born to a Quya of four upper-band Secondary Numericals. The time period they were born in brought massive change to the Nralakk Federation, as the second Nralakk Federation had finished uniting after the horrors of Glorsh-Omega. Their Qrri’Myaq, a devout Qeblak imprinted on them heavily, and successfully performed Aqi’qa on them, resulting in them becoming a strong Reciever. Throughout their Scuttle Schooling years, they were kept a watchful eye on, as custom of all Federation parents, and easily conformed due to their Reciever status. However, in their Reefgarden, they struggled to grasp theoretical-type learning, such as science and math. Brought to stress due to their academic struggles in Reefgarden, they seeked solace in the Srom and, resulting in a chronic oversleeping habit that persists to this day, much to their Quya’s dismay. They struggled to get into any prestigious educational colleges, such as in Aliose, and instead opted for a less prestigious and a more vocational educational institution. While this did bring down their social credit score towards a lower Secondary, they were able to find many opportunities within the Nralakk Federation as an engineer, due to the near-complete lack of automation. However, as the C’thur hive gained prevalence within Nralakk, many menial or engineering job opportunities quickly ran out for them as Bound Vaurcae quickly took up most jobs and did them more effectively then Xim - due to his Srom addiction. With their social credit quickly declining through a prolonged period of unemployment, and not wanting to dishonor their parents, they took a position on the Work Initiative Program at Qerr'Zolvq Industries - leading to their transfer to Hephaestus, and by extension, the SCCV Horizon. What do you like about this character? I thought it would be interesting to create a character that has basically been forced into the Work Exchange Program to save his social credit score and his employment status, and was directly negatively affected by the C’thur Hive’s bound drones. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I would say it is a solid 7. I still have things that I need to improve on, but I can roleplay satisfactorily and make somewhat interesting characters. Notes: Xim’s favorite food has to be the Lortl, owing to Aweji’s reputation as the agricultural capital of the Federation. Their social score presently sits at a 4.6. Butterrobber202 Posted December 19, 2022 Posted December 19, 2022 Hello, thanks for applying! I can tell you've done research into previous apps and the wiki. The application itself is a bit on the small side, but seeing as this is your first application, its understandable. It often seems daunting the first go around. Here's some questions for you: 1. How does Xim feel about Synthetics? Especially since they are in the same "possibly taking my job" position as the Bound were. 2. Does Xim have any lasting feelings about Vaurca or just the C'thur specifically? 3. With their lower social credit score, does Xim harbor any resentment towards the Federation for their treatment or have they accepted it as the status quo? 4. How does Xim's Quya feel about their situation? 5. What is Xim's favorite food outside of the Federation?

Especially since they are in the same "possibly taking my job" position as the Bound were. 2. Does Xim have any lasting feelings about Vaurca or just the C'thur specifically? 3. With their lower social credit score, does Xim harbor any resentment towards the Federation for their treatment or have they accepted it as the status quo? 4. How does Xim's Quya feel about their situation? 5. What is Xim's favorite food outside of the Federation? 1. How does Xim feel about Synthetics? Especially since they are in the same "possibly taking my job" position as the Bound were. - Xim has a deep-seated hatred for Synthetics, exacerbated by the Nlom wakes of the Federation. They attempt to avoid engaging with them, and when forced to, they often take on a brash and often passive-aggressive tone towards them, although not outright insulting them, as Xim does not want to lose face or sound completely unprofessional. Xrim might attempt to compete with a synthetic, attempting to prove their worth within the Horizon workforce. 2. Does Xim have any lasting feelings about Vaurca or just the C'thur specifically? - Xim has heard that Bound of all Hives have been doing the near-exact same thing - taking jobs from hard-working citizens, and doing them more effectively and with little pay. He tends not to harbor ill feelings towards Unbound - as they are heavily integrated into Federation society, but might hold grudges against Ta, Bulwarks, and Bound, as they enable the very thing which forced them to go aborad. 3. With their lower social credit score, does Xim harbor any resentment towards the Federation for their treatment or have they accepted it as the status quo? Xim struggles to show ill-will towards the Federation as part of their reciever psionics, and shows hope that the Work Exchange Program will finally get them out of the lower Secondary bracket. However, as Xim begins to drift away from the reach of the Federation's Nlom relays, some ill-will against the Federation for their situaton is slowly forming within them. 4. How does Xim's Quya feel about their situation? While their Quya continues to keep in contact with them, the unemployment phase where Xim's social credi score was steadily dropping also somewhat negatively affected their Quya's credit scores, causing them to drift away from their goal of finally raising a successful child and maybe reaching Primary. Moreover, their Quya does not understand their hate of the Bound Vaurca in the Federation, considering that Xim could have easily been promoted to a supervisory role, where Bound Vaurcae can not easily replace them, but failed to due to his oversleeping habit- and tired of listening to his reasons for his dropping social score, their Quya has started to contact him less often then before. 5. What is Xim's favorite food outside of the Federation? A meat pocket- they tried the Human food while on a Hephateus installation, and quickly developed a taste for it due to its ease to eat with their hardened gums. Edited December 20, 2022 by meep109
La Villa Strangiato Posted December 19, 2022 Posted December 19, 2022 I like Dawood from what I've seen of him and I'm loving the concept here of a failson Skrell. It's a really neat character avenue and I like how Xim's Quya is actually isolating themselves from Xim because of the social credit score; it's such a hilariously fucked-up, Skrellian thing. +1 from me. 1

I wanted to lean in on the fact that he could have easily moved up past the Bound Vaurca if not for their Srom addiction - and that he is basically blaming Vaurca for something that is actually Xim's fault Thanks to @GeneralCamo for helping me revise my backstory
