Why do you wish to play this specific race:

Skrell society interests me greatly; the large-scale structure across their territory combined with its longevity is stunning. The Nlom is what greatly captivated me, however; the idea of an biologically and psionically guided zeitgeist that guides their entire society is amazingly creative, and I want to play that out! Also, the Glorsh lore is fun, and I think I could get some good roleplay out of the dynamic between Skrell and various synthetics.

 

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human:

Skrell take a longer and society-focused view of most problems than humans due to their lifespans. The typical Skrell, at least in the foundation, views themselves less of an individual residing within a community and more a part of the community. A lot of Skrell in human spaces are simply ‘passing through’, because the timescale and society is so different that it provides a refuge from Skrellian woes. Additionally, their society is mostly centralized around the Federation, and the amount of control it exerts would be impossible for a human society, made easier by the Nlom. 

 

Character Name: Wolxii Duqtara

Please provide a short backstory for this character

Wolxii was born a Xiiori inflicted with Xibus to a Quya of 5 on Aliose, with one Qrra'Myaqq. Her Qrri’Myaq was Xiialt, and influenced them to take a career in the sciences once out of her early schooling, giving them a model microscope as their gift for the Odurserr, which Wolxii chose to burn. Once in Uyi’vesi, Wolxii chose to study xenobotany, specifically the modification of plants through a variety of techniques. They ended up acquiring 2 degrees after 23 years, and took a job with Tuz'qlip to further her ambition; somehow making a breakthrough in terraforming efforts on Aliose. Eventually, they found their efforts futile; no breakthroughs were being made, and they requested transfer in the Work Initiative Programme. Transferred to Zeng-hu, and specifically Yomi Genetics, they continued their work while interfacing with human culture. She took on a feminine gender presentation to better integrate into human culture.

 

That is her work history. Her personal history is slightly more complicated. As a child, one of the members of her Quya was killed in a vehicle accident, and the rest of them slowly drifted apart, leaving her with just her Qrra’myaqq and Qrri’myaq. This lonely existence led to her growing up more independent, and classifying herself as a Listener. Then, she made a Qu’Nioh, Ahdriu Qassaxl. They were a xenobiologist studying alongside her in the Uyi’vesi, and they grew close quickly; eventually, they became Qu’poxii, around the time that Wolxii was exiting schooling to join Tuz’qlip. They’ve continued their relationship long-distance over Viv-ID while Wolxii is in the exchange program, and she’s become much happier. Currently, Wolxii is working hard to try and increase her SCS while immersing herself in humanity, looking forward to going back home with a higher status and understanding of the world to tackle the problems on Aliose. 

 

What do you like about this character?

I feel like a more idealistic character is fun for me to play, and especially one ignorant to the worst sides of the Federation. Additionally, she has a strong goal and motivation to frame her actions. She’s also grounded in Skrell lore, and could probably find something in common with other crew members, giving her a lot of ways to spark roleplay! Her Listener status, which she tries to keep as quiet as possible, is a way to spark conflict with other Skrell.

How would you rate your role-playing ability?

I think I’m good at getting into character and especially trying to ground my characters in the setting and lore. I try my best at all times to play them as people who view the things around them as ultimately normal and something they’ve lived with for their whole lives. In both RPGs and spess, it takes me a bit to gather my thoughts on a character and wrap them up into something defined, but I do think that I'll get this together!

[Star Dust]

I've seen two of their characters in action so far, and I have to say both were very fun to play with. Their lab assistant somehow breaking medical was a fun little challenge to try and fix it, and it made for pretty good rp. And Stefanie honestly is a pretty rad character as well. They seem to know the lore of the cultures they play, and know how to roleplay them properly. I have no doubt in my mind they'd make for an amazing frog person. +1

1. Listener/Receivers are not classifications that are decided by the Skrell, but biological classifications that grade a person's reception to psionic influence. You can still be a Listener, but your skrell would not be the one "deciding" that.

2. What are Wolxii's thoughts on the C'thur Hive?

3. What are Wolxii's thoughts on the current events happening in the Traverse?

4. What is Wolxii's favorite food?

5. Does Wolxii have any personal investment in any of the Skrell Faiths?

Gotcha, gotcha

1. N/A, still a Listener

2. Wolxii believes that the C'thur Vaurcae deserve rights, but is firmly in support of Bound regulation; she views them as simply a biological variant of synthetics, and potentially dangerous if given power. She hasn't personally known many C'thur. 

3. She opposes the insurrection and rebellion in the Traverse, but does think that there is a lot of deserved criticism towards the Federation, even if only in private.

4. Wolxii would eat Neaera organs Kona'd with apple juice for days. 

5. Wolxii follows Qeblak, although isn't too ardent about her faith. She carries a deck of stargazing cards with her wherever she goes. Her coming-of-age ceremony was a small but joyful affair.
