ATGiltspire
BYOND Key: ATGiltspire Character Names: Hayashi Kuri, Aurora June Species you are applying to play: Unathi What color do you plan on making your first alien character: Azure: RGB 1, 102, 255 / Hex #0066FF Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes Why do you wish to play this specific race: Having looked over the different races other than human, I feel more drawn to the style and concept of the Unathi, rather than the others. I always like non-human viewpoints on things, as they help me fit into a character better when I can completely separate my own mental patterns from the character. Overall, I enjoy their lore and history, and would love to experience their culture more, in a way that brings entertainment to all. With their benefits to heat resistance and their higher toughness, it also gives me a better chance of surviving random occurrences, rather than dying to a few mistakes. While all the races have good benefits, none tie benefits and history together quite as well as the unathi. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: The Unathi have a strong moral code that, while rigid, is still flexible enough for nuances and dramatic flair. Unlike humans, who have a massively varied culture and variety, the Unathi culture is more limited in breadth, but still have so much to grow and build off of. Their behaviors are significantly different from my human characters, with their eye contact and occasional violence being expected, rather than a rare/antag occurrence. The Unathi are forged from their home, and have a storied history that I find fun to read. Character Name: Sathess Tau'ha'nor Please provide a backstory for this character Spoilered it being long-ish Spoiler The Me’zais always served their liege lords faithfully, keeping records of their services back to the late 2200’s. With a passion for tactical analysis and strategy, the Me’zai Warriors were well-respected by their lords, the Tau’ha’nor Clan. Devotedly following The Warrior Mukari, both the men and women of the family took to raising strong children, and it seemed that Mukari noticed their faith and blessed them in return. With brave, healthy hachlings, each generation seemed destined for more and more greatness… Until Sathiss, that is. Sathiss was born as a cursed child. Born alongside a stillbirth brother, her brilliant blue scales marked her with a dire omen. Many of her father’s friends pleaded with him to leave her in the wasteland, and to wipe Sathiss’s name from history, but he would not be convinced. He viewed this as a gift, of a girl whose scales were of the same colour as the water that the Fisherman Verrix works. Before she had turned two, however, her family was called to appear before the Tau’ha’nor Clan and be recognized for their performance during the Contact War. It would be at this meeting that Sathiss would be shown and recognized by the liege lords of her family, and her mother and father were nervous and excited in equal parts. It is a shame, however, that they never made it to the meeting. The Me’zai family’s transport was travelling along the pathway towards the Tau’ha’nor Clan Hall when an explosion from the engine sent it crashing off the roadway. Despite numerous safety checks and reviews, the cause of the detonation was never found, but rumors still flew. After all, despite the inferno, one cursed child survived. Zzavek Tau’ha’nor, a close friend of her father, had been on the way to meet them to speak privately before the audience, and saw the explosion. While her mother and father passed away in the flames, the ash-stained Sathiss was pulled from the wreckage and ferried to the Clan Hall by Zzavek. Taking pity on the new orphan, Zzavek moved for her adoption into the Clan, in recognition of her family’s long service. Despite grumblings from some, Sathiss was accepted as an adopted daughter of Zzavek Tau’ha’nor, and was raised in the Clan’s home. While she grew, she became close friends with Alsina Tau’ha’nor, viewing her as an older sister. She quickly found her place in the Clan, working alongside the other women and learning the basics of medical aid and the Matriarch’s Code. Even as a young child, she assisted the injured as the Contact War raged on, becoming recognized as a first responder for the injured. Sathiss clothed herself fully, so that none would see her scales, leading to her jokingly being called The Healer’s Hand. When the war finally ended, Sathiss found herself sliding into a depression, constantly thinking about the loss of life. In an attempt to shake her out of her mood, Zzavek moved to Ouerea, allowing her to explore a new world, one teeming with nature. This worked for quite a while, with Sathiss regaining the spring in her step that was yet another casualty of the Contact War. However, over time, her need to help came forward again and again, leading her to become a full-fledged first responder after two years of studying, working closely with diving teams in the Sahhat Crater to keep everyone stable and able to return home. The year was 2457 and she was 19 years old, looking forward to the future. Working with many of the skrell, Sathiss was exposed to a new reality, one where her scale colour was not the primary determination of her worth. She befriended many of the people in Sahhat, learning more about their research and advanced science. As the Federation began to leave, she saw more and more of the people she had come to care about be treated cruelly, and her heart began to ignite. She knew the pain and sorrow of having the whole world against you for something that was unable to be changed, and she longed to stay with them. She would be on their side, even if nobody else would, just as her adopted father was on her side. Sathiss spent so much time with the Hephaestus mining teams that she began to pick up little tips and tricks as she went on, learning how to measure twice, dig once, and not ruin any metallic or organic deposits in the walls. As she worked in the Crater, her hardsuit became a second skin for her, hiding her scales while letting her carry all of the gear she needed easier than the others. With her constantly working, she was exposed, time and time again, to the horrible conditions that they were forced to work in. She brought forth her complaints to her manager, who promised to be on the side of her and the miners. Within three days, her manager and a vast number of those she worked with were fired. The fire in her heart grew, anger at this unfair system swelling. Everywhere she looked, everyone else seemed to have that same fire, until it seemed like the whole world caught fire. And then, on March 6th, it did. Caught again in a world at war, Sathiss did as she always tried… She helped, in any way she could. However, in this war, she was not nearly as lucky, with her attempts to simply heal the wounded leaving her on a cold, hard tile, blood pouring from a torn, jagged hole in her side. The bombs had shattered the wall of the building she was in, and she had been impaled by a piece of metal. It was here that she almost died, her heart feebly beating as a nearby medic rushed to her aid. As she felt herself floating, a figure came before her, a green-scaled sinta woman who opened a satchel and pulled forth something, waving it before Sathiss… With a jolt, she awoke in a field hospital, groaning from the pain of a partially healed wound. She had somehow survived, the medic managing to stabilize her. She was saved, and was evacuated out of the area, out of the rest of the war. She maintained her approval of the democratic leadership, supporting the war effort with messages of support while she slowly recovered. As she healed, she looked into the sciences that had been taught to her by the Skrell, learning more about the scientific method, archaeology, and chemistry. She had difficulty in high-intensity situations, her post-traumatic stress striking back and causing her to shake slightly, which pushed her away from the field of medicine. Her studies led to one of the treatment doctors recommending that she join Nanotrasen, as it was the company he was contracted with, and were known to recruit scientists and doctors. After some training, Sathiss became a lab technician while studying to become a Xenoarchaeologist. She was assigned to the SCCV Horizon, and has just been dispatched to the ship, preparing to join the crew at their next port of call. What do you like about this character? This character is not proud of her scales or appearance, choosing to hide it and simply put forth an outward appearance of a normal Unathi. She wants to be recognized for who she is, rather than hated for how she looks, which is something that I strongly identify with, and I think that I would strongly enjoy playing her. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I would rate it as about a 6 out of 10. Notes: I know Azure sinta are treated poorly, and are commonly marked for death, either literally or figuratively, but this does not dissuade me, as it gives me a stronger connection with them, TBH. Please feel free to ask questions and raise concerns. If I need to work on it more, that's okay. All constructive criticism is welcome! Edited July 28, 2023 by Triogenix Link to comment
dessysalta
Same +1 as before! I have no doubt Gilt will be able to play a Unathi faithfully, especially a Tau'ha'nor. Link to comment
Captain Gecko
Hello! So spirituality is extremely important to Unathi, at least more with them than any other species in the Spur, however I don't think we get to know what Sathess' religions is... So which would it be? And why? Link to comment

And why? She has become Sk'akh. While her original family strongly believed in them and she was even given a nickname based on the Healer, she fell out of the faith for a while until she nearly died during the revolt on Ouerea, where she honestly believes that she was saved by direct intervention from The Healer, Simi. Loredevs can tell me if I'm overstepping here, but I've got some questions of my own: 1. How come she chose to have faith in Sk'akh instead of Th'akh? How does this manifest on a day-to-day basis? 2. Is there anyone else other than Zzavek or Alsina whose presence made a noticeable impact on her life? Link to comment

Is there anyone else other than Zzavek or Alsina whose presence made a noticeable impact on her life? 1. She chose Sk'akh for multiple reasons, but the one of the strongest was because of her near-death experience. Since Sk'akh is more widespread on Ouerea, it was much, much easier to find someone who was able to explain her vision as one of Simi, The Healer. Although she does no longer act as a first responder, she holds tightly to the Dedications of the Healer, practicing her singing daily, as well as taking time out of her day to feed those less fortunate. As for how this will be on the Horizon, she will go out of her way to help all of the scientists as best as she can, learning and growing wiser as she does so. 2. There are several, yes. While their impact was not as strong, they were still noticable. While some have passed to the Beastlands or whatever afterlife they are bound for, others still remain friends. Here is a small list: Richard Kaniover, Human (M): Her manager when she was working for Hephaestus, killed during the revolt. Status: Deceased Vozk Ska'dek, Unathi (M): The strongest voice calling for her exile and death, for no other reason than her scale colour. This lead to her internalized fear of other sinta seeing her scales. Status: Unknown Soshhk Ros'a'nor, Unathi (F): Her first responder teacher, who had left Ouerea before things got bad. Status: Alive, with IAC Xiili-quo Ororl, Skrell (X): One of the first people who did not react poorly to her scale colouration, this blue Skrell convinced her that she had a place on Ouerea. Status: Alive, in Xrqii-Zek'Qlip Iakovos Spirakis, Human (M): The doctor who convinced her to join Nanotrasen, died from heart failure. Status: Deceased Link to comment
