NM_ Posted December 18, 2023 Posted December 18, 2023 (edited) BYOND Key: ComradeBatman Character Names: Ren Hartfort, Lucius Volvalaad, Javier Rivera, Alyssia Hayes, Arturus Walker Species you are applying to play: Tajara What color do you plan on making your first alien character: Taupe (Hharar, I'd like to play around with the colors to decide 100%) Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes Why do you wish to play this specific race: Tajarans present one of the unique challenges to futuristic civilizations that persists in modern day Aurora: once an isolated people, now thrust into navigating the tumultuous waters of a galactic political landscape. Their robust culture, tradition, and inherent struggles blend together to offer a distinctive experience without fully alienating themselves from humanizing elements. It’s to say the strife of a Tajaran coping with the unfamiliarity of life aboard a melting pot such as the Horizon is a compelling dynamic felt species-wide, and one that feels appropriate to in both inevitability and prominence to our own future. Beyond this, Tajarans possess intertwined philosophies that often pit them amongst one another, which make for interesting interactions. Their particular flavor of aesthetic and origin are a point of interest with all the potential that comes with it. As predominantly a human player, I could never hope to explore that shared history as I would roleplaying a Tajaran with their own. How a Tajaran character chooses to approach the universe at large is based on their uniquely cultivated narrative, bearing all the flexibility of what each major political group’s path seeks to address: What do the children of Adhomai want to be, now, on this broader stage? Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: The most apparent at a glance is their physiology. Bipedal felines with intentionally bred genetic advantages based on the ethnicities they are derived from. Third person point of view for the identification of self and others, which has proven to be one of their charms in engaging with them. Expressiveness is more intimately achieved with the usage of ears, tails, and a muzzle that adopt the animalistic flair expected of their origin. In even the broadest sense, their accelerated technological growth clashes with the ways of old that they have only ever known prior. The Tajarans of today are the first generation to engage with the intergalactic stage they’ve found themselves upon, something opposing species have had generations to adjust to. They have no precedence or experience to fall back on, something humans were capable of acclimating with since 2332. Their forefathers have only ever known Adhomai. There will come a time where future Tajarans have always known there to be life and worlds beyond their own. To be Tajaran is to take a stance. There are few who can afford the luxury to remain neutral in the future of Adhomai with so much at stake. For this, the individual falls short in the needs of the collective. Their continued future hinges on what foundation they will lay for future generations to come, in the path in which it’s done, from the three ideological titans in their present stalemate. Character Name: Yani’sveko Krislankovikj Please provide a short backstory for this character: History – “What will he become, he wonders. How will he serve Hadii best?” Yani’sveko’s first breath was made in Nal’tor, nestled in the warmth of Hharar parents, of the year 2435. His father served as a scholarly professor of History at the Nal’tor College of Career Excellence, a guiding hand for the youth throughout his early years in his education. A childhood that proved to be ultimately unremarkable, managing to accomplish his eventual graduation without great fanfare. His intellect was above average yet fell short to his innate curiosity. For what he lacked in talent was compensated to sate whatever he wished to study most through hard work and consistent effort. As fate would have it, his graduation in 2451 was not without it’s misfortune - the assassination of President A’mari Hadii rocked the People’s Republic, a moment that would define the next decade of his life. Without delay, he enlisted to join the Republican Army, his unwavering faith in the Party his only driven motivation. “From high to low The republic in their hearts they tow They spill blood for his grace upon this snow” Civil war ravaged Adhomai, combat spilling across the planet throughout countless cities. Yani’sveko’s initial training was promptly completed, deployed alongside infantry units where he was needed most. The horrors of battle clawed at his mind, held at bay with the knowledge that his service was for a better future under the rightful President, burying his deepest wishes for a quiet life. Long years bled into one another, engaging with hostile forces from cabins, city blocks, open fields, and more. The embroiled urban battles in particular throughout Tampiska earned him recognition. As one of the survivors in the devastating defeat to Liberation Army forces, he managed to minimize casualties in his unit and sabotage Liberation supply depots with coordinated guerilla maneuvers as they lost ground, continuing to burn, booby trap, and hinder Liberation forces as much as possible. “A good soldier lives for the party. The best soldiers die for it.” Six years of service earned the attention of the freshly formed Kosmostreiki once his application had been submitted, seeking to recruit the seasoned Yani’sveko to their cause. Much of his innate interest in the world at large had been swept away in the tides of battle, resigning himself to the tool he had been honed into. Exposure to the People’s Space Station offered a chance to find purpose again in a new environment, banking on his devotion to the Republic. The full three years were achieved with satisfactory marks, finding an honorable discharge after his tenure in 2461, as the second revolution came to it’s end. “He will find battles that are not waged with bullets, but his mind. Learn so that he can use it as a weapon. Hadii’s Grace should reach the stars.” With an Adhomai consolidating it’s identity between the three factional powers comprising the Tajaran people, the dutiful Yani’sveko found refuge again in Nal’tor for his post-war education. His body was trained, now his mind would be opened where it was once closed. A lifetime of indoctrination continued to uphold his devotion to the party, fueled by the underlying resentment that their present level of technology was not enough to save the lives lost in war. Had they known better, wielded greater equipment, far less of his Comrades would have met their end. He found himself most at home with the aspirations of Visionary Hadiism, seeking to understand the galactic stage they now found themselves upon. “Their people deserve to spread across the galaxy.. They are the first generation to face the universe, the future is written with their choices.” He completed his higher education, additionally obtaining a pilot’s license, a demonstrably easier qualification from his time in the Kosmostreiki. The wonders of space returned a flicker of inspiration in his heart, seeking to find employment in the human lead SCCV Horizon in hopes to accomplish his goals of exposing himself to the Spur at large, taking home the wealth of experience, knowledge, and insight he would acquire once his contract has concluded. Views – The DPRA delude themselves to believe they have time to spare in the galactic stage we’ve found ourselves upon. Nanotrasen and corporate influence gives us the means to achieve the progress we desire, far sooner than otherwise. We should honor our agreements and work to surpass the humans, but must cooperate with them until then. The madness of the Monarchy with the NKA suggests there will be no hope for a powerful Adhomai. Regressing yet again to what has not worked will achieve nothing. With the party, there is opportunity for a swift climb working with those who have already ascended faster than us. Royalists cling to history, sacrificing the future. His faith had been significantly shaken throughout the years of warfare, finding solace in hoping that those whose lives he claimed could find rest in Messa’s embrace. Having used Hadiism as his comfort for the rising dread and jadedness towards the end of his service, his practice falls to pleasantries and respect of others, something scarcely exercised for himself. What do you like about this character? Yani’sveko captures the simplicity of the common man thrust into a world of violence and uprising that so many find themselves in without warning. He is molded by the experiences lived, all with the guiding principle of what he can devote to his people more than anything else. The future struggles he’ll endure in understanding other walks of life will be engaging to explore as a writer. How he chooses to cope, bearing in mind his own colored history in a traditional, conservative society can take the character in a multitude of paths. All of them for him, ultimately, are intended to harvest the wealth of the galaxy for the PRA’s benefit. It is the eternal conflict of the self versus their duty, to serve a higher call, being the party in this case. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I would consider myself above average. Susan Posted December 18, 2023 Posted December 18, 2023 Ren Hartfort is a well-written character and I fully believe that NM is more than capable of portraying the nuance inherent to Tajara. They have my full-throated support. 1
CatsinHD Posted December 18, 2023 Posted December 18, 2023 I can only echo the comment before, Ren is a very well-written and RP'd character. NM is 100% capable of playing Tajara and take into account their nuance, themes, so on. If the quality of his writing in this application doesn't display his capabilities then I have no earthly clue what will. I wish I could give a +2, but seeing as I can't I shall give a solid +1. 1
Noble Row Posted December 18, 2023 Posted December 18, 2023 I tried to roleplay once with Ren in the relay and NM kept writing books to me. +1 1
ATGiltspire Posted December 19, 2023 Posted December 19, 2023 This one time, Ren Hartfort stared at me. I immediately gained perfect medical knowledge and could type paragraphs in the span of a second. I saw the world through his eyes, and found the secrets to gitting gud. +1 because I know NM put a lot of thought into it and really looks forward to playing this character. It's clear from the writing that he read the pages quite thoroughly. 1
Duthco Posted December 19, 2023 Posted December 19, 2023 In repeated interactions through a handful of different characters, I have never known Ren Hartfort to be anything but a stalwart of quality from flavorful interactions to the programmatic work by the good doctor himself. He doesn't simply fill a role, but plays a character with ideals, goals, and purpose. I've every faith that NM would bring the same level of quality to his Tajaran, as evidenced already by the application's content. +1 1
Rookie Eyes Posted December 20, 2023 Posted December 20, 2023 I can't add anything that cannot be said already about Ren Hartfort, but in the few rounds they were around Javier Rivera was immediately a memorable character to me as well. Not only is NM a great roleplayer, but also a good teacher to new players in medical. +1 1
