KingOfThePing
BYOND Key: KingOfThePing Discord Username: just_lanze Character Name: Azradov Mrakiizar Item Name: Coffee Grinder (reference see below): It is a small/wooden container with a handle on top that can be turned. Filling the box with coffee beans and then turning the handle grinds the beans into a fine powder. Moka Pot (no idea what this is called in english, picture reference and sprite draft (NOT FINAL) attached): A metal espresso cooker. Water goes in the bottom, ground beans in the middle. You put it on a hot stove until it boils. And thus espresso was made. Bonus: Ground up coffee gets a new sprite, too. Item Function(s): You can open the grinder and put coffee beans in. Then you can use the grinder to grind coffee after a medium-length delay. Includes grinding noises. You can split the cooker in three parts (similar to the cocktail shaker). The bottom part can be filled with water. The middle part can be filled with ground up coffee beans. All assembled you can put it on the stove to cook espresso (sounds inclusive). Item Description (subject to change, not finalized): Grinder: An old school coffee grinder, made out of metal and wood. It looks to be an old model, since it is not electric, but hand-operated. Beans go in, fine coffee dust comes out. Pot: A small metal can, Intended to cook espresso. Just add water and coffee powder and you're good to go. If you know how to properly use it with a stove. It looks like an old and outdated design. Why is your character bringing this item to work?: Azradov is a cook by heart and has been his most of his life in one way or another. Recently, during his late time in Mendell, but way more on the Horizon he has discovered that he is a great coffee enjoyer. He got interested, grew beans in hydroponics and tried to encourage others to not only drink the bad canister delivered coffee. Not everyone of the crew is convinced, but to further his quest he decided to read into the art of coffee making and buy an old coffee making set that was sold in Orion's ExtraNet marketplace by a private person. He is just waiting for the package to arrive. How did your character obtain this item?: Azradov searched long and wide on forums, marketplaces and even Xanu to acquire a coffee maker set that suited his needs. Then he bought it with some money he saved up. What value does this item have to your character, and what story does it tell?: In the end it is to further the character and expanse the scope of him to not be only a food enthusiast. The development for his coffee love came naturally through gameplay and I have cemented it into his character ever since. He does not offer everyone coffee yet. Since he is not that good at cooking coffee yet. But he wants to try and learn (maybe from a barista from the bar?). He discovered something new he enjoys smiliary as cooking and that is what keeps him going. Same with his cooking these things mean a lot to him, even more if he can share it with others. Sprites: See below, not completely finished yet. Spritework by LaVilla. Additional Comments: none Edited December 18, 2023 by KingOfThePing people told me what it's called in english Link to comment

Dreamix
I think this should be a normal item available to everyone in the loadout. Or mapped somewhere onto Horizon like to the top deck Idris cafe. It could be used on a lot of away sites or third party ships too, where the automatic espresso machines or whatever don't quite look right. (It could be a custom item I guess then too, but it shouldn't just be one character being allowed to brew coffee.) Edited December 20, 2023 by Dreamix Link to comment
KingOfThePing
Everyone can indeed cook coffee. By growing beans and grinding them down, using water on them. So it is not a barred off mechanic per-se. Link to comment
Dreamix
I meant specifically using a pot and a coffee grinder. It's like a perfect thing to add to the Idris cafe to allow the roleplay of making artisanal coffee (vs currently just clicking a button on the automatic coffee dispenser). I think it's too generic of a mechanic to just be a custom item. Link to comment
Fluffy
I second Dreamix, I think it would be more beneficial and fitting for it to be a kitchen/bar/department lobby, or loadout, item rather than a custom one Link to comment

Yes, coffee brewing mechanics would be great (I worked on that idea with Vrow before he sadly left) but a moka pot and manual grinder are not tools you would use in a cafe. Maybe get one of those commercial espresso machines: A special automatic grinder (with different settings) instead. Even a filter machine like a Mr. Coffee even maybe. These two items are purposefully old (I'd even say antiquated) and more or less collector's items. It would make little sense for a commercial enviroment to use them. 1 Link to comment
GeneralCamo
It is indeed called a moka pot in English. Though they are often confused with the (similar) percolator. I agree with your reasoning on these being a custom item and not game-wide. These are incredibly niche coffee making items and wouldn't really fit into the corporate aesthetic. I support this application and hope to see it in-game for you. Link to comment
La Villa Strangiato
The final moka pot sprite, all-together. It has different components that can be taken apart, like a shaker, and the full set of files is in Ping's hands. Edited January 8 by La Villa Strangiato Link to comment
