Butterrobber202 Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 BYOND Key:Butterrobber202 Character Names:Adam Redem How long have you been playing on Aurora:Well, I Did play for awhile a year or so ago, but recently about a week Species you are applying to play:Unathi What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Black Have you read our lore section's page on this species?:Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I just don't enjoy playing other races as much as I used to because on other unnamed servers I have played everything, but Unathi and since I just read the lore on it, I find this race very enjoyable to my playstyle. Also they look nice, I think a black lizard man with red eyes, and claws would be crazy cool. I would also find it enjoyable to be a wayfaring race. And it would be fun to join the Sec team and be a badass Black lizard man that his robusting some lowly assistant into submission. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: I dunno. Humans are just a dominant species in SS13 and I think it would be fun to kinda be stuck to certain jobs. Humans can be anything, Sec to Miner, Scientist to Bartender. Unathi are a wayfaring race that mainly utilize MORTAL KOMBAT. (LoL) And I think it would be fun to just RP as a wayfaring Sec Officer that sometimes just takes it a 'little' to far. Just take that Arrest a 'Little' to far, do a 'Little' too much damage. Character Name: Zalgis Sgalirz (Male) Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Zaglis was a the son of a raider, his father was one of the lower ranking ones, his name was Jsuags Sgalirz he was a deckhand, his job was to fix anything if it broke and lob the heads off of guards with his Energy Hatchet when they raided a ship. His Son was aware of his Career choice and was on the Raid Ship he worked on. He was the age of 12 when his father died in a raid, shot through the head with a laser cannon. Zaglis was still on the ship when this happened and was old enough to swing a sword so they let him be a raider. Zaglis Sgalirz was the best damn raider there, minus the leader of course, he had the luck to find the best loot and figured out where to hit other Alien Races to cripple them. He rose in the ranks quickly, cutting and hacking his way up mostly, if anyone was in his way and the raider leader didn't care much for them they would find Zaglis' Father's hatchet in their back and somehow Zaglis would take their place. One unfaithful night the raiders were in the hold getting drunk on Gorok's , a Human raider, Wine he raided from a Noble's ship the other day, then they were attacked by Bounty Hunters seeking the Bounty ob their leader's head. Most of the crew was to drunk to realize they were under attacked was where killed almost instantly, Zaglis was modifying his Hatchet at the time and heard the Hunter's ship fire upon them, after thumping his tail on the ground and grabbing the loot from his small cabin he used a old maintenance hallway to escape to the shuttle, sadly the Hunters were there waiting for the leader to appear, they got word of something on their headsets and moved away long enough for Zaglis to slip away on the shuttle. He bolted the airlock behind him, some other Raiders try to come, banged on the door begging for him to let them come in, but left them to be slaughtered. After prepping the stolen bluespace drive and setting a course he detached from the Raiders' ship and landed on Ouere. Where he decided a Raiders life was a little to risky. He sold most of the stolen items he retrieved from his cabin on the destroyed Raider's ship. Brought a decent house in a big city and kept the ship he took, setting in the underground pod garage. 3 week later Zaglis needed a job... and NT Found him. What do you like about this character? Awesome black lizard man with a bad-ass Raider history. What is not to like? How would you rate your role-playing ability? 6-7/10 Notes:I had a MUCH more interesting backstory on this, like 6 Paragraphs of it, but I forgot to toggle Log me in automaticly so when I went to save the draft It told me to log in and delated my work, got pissed a decided I wouldn't make it again. To sum that up Zalgis was adopted by a Skrellian then hidden for years then found and sent to Work for NT.
Frances Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 I don't know, I don't feel like you expand enough on the subtleties of playing as Unathi. I mean, you seem to have gotten down the part that Unathi are an aggressive, warlike species, they're tough and act like badasses and get into conflicts a lot. But that alone isn't what people will be looking for in a good alien player. Playing an alien race isn't about following stereotypes to a T, but carving your way through making a complex, three-dimensional character, who is more than the tropes which define his or her species.
Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 We have a loooooot of unathi that already operate on hair triggers and assault people as sec officers. Thats not the only thing unstuck guis. Can you maybe give me something to show your unathi will be charactersbrather than be stereotypes? Sticking strictly to melee or being really honourbound (to be honourable and not just murder someone for honor) or. something. A unique character is one that has a twist on even going with the stereotype of its faction or race.
Butterrobber202 Posted May 8, 2015 Author Posted May 8, 2015 I had a really cool story about him being adopted by a Skrellian but I didn't make a backup and lost it when it glitched. If you want I can recreate it.
Hackie Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 But in his defense, that's character development. Having someone who's too overdeveloped as a character on station can hinder the experience because they can't fit in? I think it could end up well if he carved his own chunk out of the server.
Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 Ouch, I know the pain of losing a lot of written work to a glitch. And Hackie's comment is a legitimate one - often characters that start as blank slates like this can turn into something more. I'll trust you to play Unathi well, and make a character that's entertaining/engaging. Application accepted.
