Security ranks.

Question

I'm pulling from a thread that's a week or two old an can be found here.

I was under the impression that the Head of Security and Warden were the only security members that could brig for more than minimum time regardless. However, should they brig someone for double or triple time could a captain order the time reduced if he isn't satisfied with their reasoning why the timer was increased?

From everything I've read and seen, the warden does NOT have an elevated position. They are the same rank as a common officer with altered job descriptions. The warden's job is to watch over detained crew and to ensure they are properly cared for and released when their time is up. Essentially the warden is in charge of whatever goes on in the brig on the same level as a sec officer, whose job is to patrol and detain crew who are causing issues. Basically, once a prisoner enters processing and the officer has given the warden the full story and charges and evidence, the warden brigs and sets their timer. This does NOT give them the authority to set the "additional penalties" for the detainee. That power should only lie with command staff, primarily the HoS, or if he's absent the Captain. Other command staff might be capable of input so long as neither of the primary positions are on station at the time and a judgement is needed, in which case command should be contacted and those additional penalties pardoned if CC calls for it.

Do I have the general gist of this?

That sounds about right. Also, as a note when setting times... http://wiki.baystation12.net/index.php?title=Space_Law

A single incident has a single sentence, so if, for instance, the prisoner took 3 items off someone, this is a single count of pickpocketing.

Keep in mind that people that cause major mayhem (and potentially any other criminals) have probably committed more than one crime. Add the time for each case together.

Essentially this means you give them a single charge per crime, don't try to bump up someones brig time to ludricrous amounts. You really /shouldnt/ be trying to go above the minimum brig time unless they're a repeat offender during the same round.

It's a single charge of a single type per crime, last time I checked.

So you don't give someone five minutes per tool if they stole a toolbox, but if they broke into a secure area and knocked someone over to do it those are separate crimes and should be added together.

My plan is to eventually make a crime computer that just automatically sets brig timers and creates permanent records to avoid this kind of ambiguity.

If you want, I can put something together for that and host it with all my other Aurora scripts stuff

Ah! That's a neat idea, but I was talking about an in-game item.

Alternatively and/or additionally, a spreadsheet and such for listed infractions.
