What the fuck is right. I'm pretty new here and this entire thread exploded with off-topic things. Not to mention the stuff on topic was pretty stupid because it was clear that people were just bitching and whining.

How come someone cannot go into general and make a thread about some RP they thought was awesome without getting a bunch of salty responses and arguing? If you don't agree with the person thinking that the RP was awesome, guess what, don't post there. They didn't ask for people to give them a hard time, they just wanted to share an experience-bring the community closer by socializing.

This is sad.

People did start arguing about the legitimacy of the round, when there was already an ongoing complaint thread for it (which Scopes even asked people to go to).

I don't really see Delta's vitriol as being related to that, though. I think his issue was more with the round lauded in the OP happening at all than it being rule-breaking, and the ensuing niceness came as a result to that.

This isn't mature enough to be on a complaint board. This is some of the lowest, scummy shit I've ever had the displeasure of seeing on Aurora.

This is fucking Archangel material. Pull your head out of your ass, you know who.

EDIT: "Pull your heads out of your asses." - Corrected this.

I remember back on BestRP, I had a really nice RPed-out torture session as a traitor. IIRC, they used a telescopic baton, electric shocks, and even a SLIME to try and get me to talk. After the fifth session I told them everything I knew.

I ratted out 3 other traitors and was forced into exile via gateway.

I prefer trapping people in their own words through interrogations rather than torture, myself. Torture doesn't work IRL, and it makes people fanny troubled IC.

Don't focus on intimidating. It doesn't scare people. It's the internet, after all.

You know what does scare people?

Being put out of the round. Threats you can actually follow up on are the most effective. Most people would call you shitcurity for it, but threatening greater sentences for noncompliance tends to register in people's heads as an 'oh shit, I should probably explain what happened' kind of thing.

People also tend to let on more than is truly necessary, but beyond necessity you can find out a lot about a person.

I don't agree on this. Are you trying to intimidate the player, or the character?

Both.

People are much more willing to open up if they feel they're being treated unfairly or unjustly. Psychological warfare.

I recommend you only do this to confirmed antagonists.

I sometimes do attempt to target the player rather than the character in my roleplay (mostly to fuck with people, like doing *deathgasp feints during combat), but I feel like dealing with captured antags isn't really a good case for this.

Like, if the antag has been properly searched and cuffed, in theory, they're done. It's really hard to escape on your own once you've been cuffed by a competent sec player, and I don't really see trying to intimidate the player more as being really fair-play. I'd rather find ways to create interesting situations by cooperating with said player, and that can involve intimidating their character, or providing them anything fun for them to work with.

Came to tell you that you're wrong.

It's relatively easy to be a frightening character ICly. All it takes is a little knowhow about fears, phobias, and little squicks that drive the human mind nuts. Sure, you can focus on the player, but the fun would be over. There's no challenge in it.

That assumes the player wants to cooperate. How many times have I seen people dragged to interrogation and do nothing, because the character keeps going "fuck you." Threaten with perma, then they talk.
