BYOND key: Seven Ghost

Character names: Lucy Sparks, Suzy Starwell, Paxton Reed

How long have you been playing on Aurora?: My reckoning is poor, but I've maintained 3 months of regular play

Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: Science benefits from cooperation and coordination, and can't function adequately without it. Even when they have cooperation, they're rarely coordinated. Its also a highly independent and creative department that requires a leader who knows how to help everyone work together without stepping in and forcing everyone to follow their line. Because there's rarely a Head and even rarer a head who possesses these qualities, I'd like to fill that role.

Why did you come to Aurora?: I came to Aurora because /first and foremost/ it was about heavy roleplay in an environment that made sense. I /stayed/ at Aurora because people, on average, are not toxic, violent shitheads. The moderation is fair and balanced, admins rarely abuse powers, and deal justice with an even hand. I came to love Aurora because I can TRUST you.

Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?: I have. Deeply and thoroughly. I can perform every function, role and science in the department.

Please provide well articulated and argumented answers to the following questions in a paragraph each.

Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay in this medium is a /collaborative/ story building exercise. Its taking the role of whatever character you are playing as and conveying their perspective while participating in the perspective, story and role of others. One sided stories may be fun to the single actor, but without trading and working together it won't maintain a community, just like it won't maintain a station. Without community, there are no stories. There is no station. There's only one lonely sucker on a failed server, or banned back into real life.

What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: I think the most important detail of all is showing players that this is a place they can trust to play in. Speaking from personal experience, I didn't cease misbehavior and begin participation in building stories with others until I realized that people weren't going to beat me unconscious and rob me the first chance they got. When a certain person, who may as well have been a Head, stopped to talk with me and show me things I realized this was somewhere I could build trust.

What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: I think the previous answer blends into this one. Its responsibility to build trust and community. Whether IC or OOC, people need to know that someone is going to listen to them, make stories with them, and not slip them on a spacelube trail out an open airlock at first chance.

Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions.

Character name: Lucinde Spak aka Lucy Sparks

Character age: 34

Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs):

Lucinde Spak was born on a small settlement of a semi-terraformed planet named Carnesus in the Tau Ceti system. As was the story with many planets from the early settlement, it started as a terraformation settlement from Sol federal powers and drifted over generations to contracted industrial deep mining by intergalactic corporations through the discovery of Plasma minerals. Carnesus was nothing more than a fueling point between major ports and a tech graveyard, an inhabited landfill of discarded machinery and dead ships.

It was to this toxic atmosphere than Lucy was born, with severe genetic defects that required extensive surgical operation and prosthetic organ replacement. Half a machine herself, she showed immense aptitude for mechanics, electronics and technical acumen. By adulthood it was clear how she would pay her corporate medical debt, and she was signed to a Nanotrasen research station. Placed in an odd position of both gratefulness and bitterness towards her employers, she instead focused on her work and advancement in the lab. Her friendly nature and survivor's mindset insured a gradual advance to a higher rank.

She could breathe recycled air on Carnesus or in deep space and she chose the latter.

What do you like about this character?: I like that Lucy is hardy but friendly. I like that most of her body is prosthetic, and echoes my own experience as a person with health problems and organ failure. I like toxic junk planets in scifi stories and I enjoy that her home planet is as a part of her as her body and job. I like that she has both cause to like and dislike NT without being a full out rebel or total zealot.

What do you dislike about this character?: I dislike her humanity. She can relate to being /close/ to machines, but she isn't one. She can never understand what its like to be a robot or even an alien, even though she pretends to. I dislike that her friendliness is somewhat false, and only in response to the contrast from the misery of her home planet. I dislike that she's unhappy.

Do you think this character is fit to be a Head of Staff? (Please note that Head characters must be over 30, unless given special clearance): I think I've given my character sufficient cause to be personable and capable enough to be a Research Director. Outside of that, I don't think I'll be filling any other Head roles, except for maybe Chief Medical Officer if she ever takes the time to learn medicine outside of biomechanical engineering.

Why?: Why? I'll tell you why. Because she deserves it. Because she's taken her lumps and learned the ropes and by gum she has what it takes to fill. that. role.

Please provide well articulated and argumented answers to the following questions.

How would you rate your own roleplaying?: I'd say my roleplaying has improved quite a lot from when I first started here. I'm not ashamed to admit that I came here expecting just another SS13 shitshow, didn't trust anyone to try to build stories and made a lot of mistakes. Since then I've learned this is somewhere I can actually give a damn about. While I think I need to be more creative with my emotes and my roleplaying ability is still growing, I have done well enough to game happily with a growing number of people, all whom I trust to vouch for me. You can't deny you've seen me grow.

I also vote a yes for this. Lucy is a blast to RP with, and with her at a head position I imagine it would open up many doors for so much more research and development than I've seen available without a head's permission.

Ive recently started RPing with Ghost's Character Lucy, she plays the part well and did an amazing job playing a teacher and rolemodel, also she know her stuff so yeah im voting Yes

Lucy Sparks is, truly, the kind of person you would want to watch over your research. She's competent at her job, handles emergency situations well, and doesn't berate people for making small mistakes. Seven plays Sparks well, along with their other characters, and it's always pleasant to see Sparks on the crew manifest. +1 from me.

Going to -1 this.

I've seen Seven Ghost play antag with powergame in mind consistently (let's not even talk about Janus), and they even admitted it awhile ago in the bounty thread wherein they publicly stated that they ganked a bounty and forgot to take a photo. This consisted of dropping a lit grenade in front of the target, hiding it behind a book, to kill them. Given that I'm not confident Seven Ghost can roleplay antagonists well, I don't think they can handle the rigors of being a head or the responsibility involved.

I think that's a pretty legitimate concern. I won't say that I haven't had to severely improve over my time playing here. I've even bungled as Paxton Reed, whom I turned around the very next round after the one you mentioned in a cult round. I don't always play well, especially when I've been drinking. I'm confident to say that I feel connected to and caring about this server and my actions will speak for themselves in time. Being a shithead leaves a lasting legacy and I'm prepared to face the consequences of my mistakes.

I've been asked to make a promise not to play head roles while drinking or drunk.

I think beyond that though I'm going to make a promise not to drink while playing SS13 in general.

I don't have troubles with substance abuse and this will be an easy promise for me to keep.

Honestly put, its hard to play a game so based on words and thinking when my mind is fuzzy.

Addressing the subject of irresponsible behavior, I intend to address people LOOC more often. When antagging and selecting targets: I will either assure my method of attaining bounties is less sloppy than a bomb in the hall, or ask the player of the character if they consent to being a target. This station is full of people with friendships just like I do, and I've already injured a friend in space with sloppy behavior and payed the price before, I don't wish to repeat that mistake. I intend to avoid reckless behavior antag or non-antag in general because well.. needless chaos just doesn't feel good to me. I'm too connected to these people to want to harm them.
