GhoshtInShpashe's Shkrell Whitelisht Applicashion

BYOND Key: GhostInSpace. For the purposes of keeping my characters organized I intend to use a separate key for Skrell, SpectralSquid (yes, I know)

Character Names: As of this time I have four or five characters that I play:

  •
  • Gage Marshall - A divorcee detective from the N.T.I.B. and former MCPD Vice Officer, known primarily for his belligerent attitude, anger management issues, foul mouth, alcoholism, and his love of tomatoes and softcore Skrell pornography. Currently on administrative leave from Security and working in the Hydroponics department after a bout of workplace violence.

  • Spencer Price - A nursing intern who's yuppie family has worked for NanoTrasen for four generations. Though he appears to be an up-and-coming medical student and does his best to help out around medbay he has difficulty staying awake on the job and may not have the stomach for the kind of stressful environment and conditions medical practitioners operate under. He always makes sure to address everyone working in medbay by the title of 'Doctor', and makes personal requests to people via PDA messenger to please remember to activate your suit sensors : )!!! A strong supporter of all NanoTrasen corporate policies and Central Command directives (except for the ones that disallow making out while at work), Spencer's primary concern is the ever-present threat of corporate espionage which (he has read) costs the company millions (if not billions?) in credit losses on a quarterly basis. Please remember that the medbay is a no smoking area.

  • Hannah Weaver - A reclusive microbiologist/virologist who is rarely seen outside of the virology testing lab. Terribly socially awkward, (due either to her poor personal hygiene or to her pronounced stuh... Stuh. Stutter.) she will typically avoid eye-contact and all but the most basic of conversation topics unless you manage to catch her while she's wearing her bio suit and hood (pruh-pruh... pruh-protection), in which case you might get her talking about one of the following topics: viruses, pathogens, germs, bacteria, infection vectors, microbial lifeforms, the horrifying debilitating effects of infectious diseases, or what it was like working for Zheng-Hu Pharmaceuticals. She might have a thing or two to say about high-powered electronic microscopes, I don't know. If you see her, ask her what she's named her test monkeys that shift. But then again you probably won't see her because she's a graveyard shift-working recluse.

  • Jacob Stahl - A true 2457 renaissance man from the no-name Hephaestus Industries mining colony 11e-Gamma Minor. E.V.A. and A.P.L.U. certified until 2460. He mines rock. He processes ore. He pilots Ripleys. He takes down reinforced walls. He ensures that your goods are ordered and delivered in a timely fashion. He's a Quartermaster, and he fancies himself a damned good one. So, no, you better bloody believe he doesn't mind taking a little off the top for himself. Gotta pay off those student loans somehow. He has something of a vague criminal past and he prides himself on his ability to gain access to nearly any part of the station with a bit of luck, hacking, and the occasional incredibly painful electrical shock. His Employee Clearance level is 5c, and don't you bloody forget it mate. Oh, aye, and if you piss him off while working in the Cargo Bay, he may actually fookin fight you.

  • Nate Delaney - He is a 17 year old bald teenager who has a part time job working in the station's library or in a variety of other positions as an Assistant. His mom, an N.T. employee, kind of sort of "helped" him and kind of sort of "made" him take the job during the summer. He doesn't like it very much as the library's collection of RPG rulebooks is woefully inadequate so he has to bring his own from home, which is a pain, and he also considers it very boring— though it affords him a lot of time to read, work on character sheets, and do a little cosplaying if the mood strikes him. His on-station criminal record? Smoking under the age of majority. For the record, his canon death has already occurred: Nate was killed when a nuclear device detonated and obliterated the station just as he was in the middle of reading "A Guide To Staying Alive." Yes, yes I know Nuke rounds aren't canon. I feel the irony of such a death is too great to pass up.

Species you are applying to play: Skrell

What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): I'm thinking a nice blueish / dark-blueish colour. I don't really know how body colours work yet.

Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question

Why do you wish to play this specific race: Because Skrell express emotion differently than humans and other alien races, and can come off as cold, emotionless or simply distant to those outside their own species. However, this difference in expression of emotion does not mean they are emotionally stunted. Skrell are a technologically advanced species with a thriving empire. While not necessarily correct to say that any Skrell is "smarter" than a member of any other race, they are indeed a more cereberal species- cereberal in the sense that I feel to approach a Skrell character you must approach them from a more intellectual and less emotional stance. Thought over feeling.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Typical Skrell births contain anywhere from 5 to 50 children, and the population of Jargon IV and the Jargon Federation is booming to the point of governmental regulation, which suggests highly different family units and different institutions to accommodate them. It is difficult for those not of the Skrell species to determine a Skrell's gender on visual basis alone. Additionally, their hardened gum-lines and biology prevent them from consuming meat, and their inarticulate tongues sometimes give Skrell trouble pronouncing words in Tau Ceti Basic.

Character Name: Psudoa Tidaalis

Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs

Psudoa is a Jarsian from Qerrbalak. He was hatched in 2431 along with his fifteen brothers and eighteen sisters, the twelfth Skrell hatched and ninth male Skrell out of his mother's healthy egg batch of thirty four, the only egg batch allowed to Tup-Namadia Tidaalis due to Jargon Federation governmental population control regulations. The Tidaalis family is somewhat well off on Qerrbalak due to an arranged marriage between the heiress of a prominent merchant house and a Skrellian scientist of some minor fame and wealth. As such Psudoa experienced something of a charmed childhood, attending private schools with his brothers and sisters. However, while the rest of his siblings from his batch pursued education and careers traditional to the Tidaalis family in the fields of politics, trading and science, Psudoa's interests from a very young age drifted towards different pursuits; specifically his race's galactic reputation for military prudence and Skrellian law and order.

By 2456, at the age of 25, he had graduated from a prestigious military boarding academy on Qerrbalak. Having already performed his duty to Skrellian society and the continuation of the Tidaalis family line by providing fertilization to an egg batch two years prior, Psudoa was ready to fully dive into starting his career with the Jargon IV military or perhaps the police. However, shortly after graduation he was contacted by a human recruiter from the galactic corporate giant NanoTrasen. They had taken note of his records at the academy and a devotion to the rule of law that was as firm, hard, sharp and unyielding as Qerrbalakian razorreefs. Psudoa was offered a generous contract from NanoTrasen Corporate Security and the assurance that the opportunities provided by employment with the largest, wealthiest, and most powerful megacorporation in known space simply could not be beat.

Psudoa was all too eager to accept. After all, the NanoTrasen corporation has an outstanding reputation among the Skrell people and are one of the few human enterprises that the Skrell openly trade with. His direct relatives in the Tidaalis family were overjoyed; Psudoa had gone from being the black fish of the family (in a dynasty of merchants, scientists and politicians of various stripes, Psudoa was considered an oddity overly concerned with his adherence to the Altariser faith and Skrellian military tradition) to their sudden personal representative within the N.T. corporation. The possibility for prestige and favour that having such a connection might bring to their family was impossible to ignore.

His first posting was to the N.S.S. Aurora.

What do you like about this character? I find the concept of a religious Skrell security officer devoted to corporate law and order to be not only intriguing, but entertaining and amusing.

How would you rate your role-playing ability? Eh, pretty good.

Notes: Thanks for reading my application. I hope you have enjoyed role-playing with one of my characters at some point!

I can't say Ive had the pleasure of RPing with all of Ghost's character, but I can say that when I have RPed with who I have, they're just that. A pleasure. I can say without any doubt that Jacob is one of the best QM's there is, in the way of interaction at least. I can tell you, as an avid QM'er, it isn't easy to make a good QM, since the job of QM is pretty much a paperpusher who heads cargo. I can say, firmly, from just my interactions from that one character that Ghost is pretty damn good. He'd be great at playing one of those fishy fucks.

Reading this was also a lot more fun than reading his ass.

I'll endorse this with one freaking condition.

Do not do the goddamn slur. It is so grating and irritating.

And pass up a perfect opportunity to say "Offisher Tidaalish reporting for duty"?

Politely refusing your conditional endorsement my good sir. *Said while sipping tea and tipping my dandy top hat from the viewing deck of my passing dirigible.*

First off, I love this app. I actually checked several parts of this application to see if they were lifted directly from the wiki. They weren't. You seem to have a wonderful understanding of the Skrell and their mentality.

As far as I've seen you, you're OOCly pleasant and capable of using reason. Probably a good trait for someone who plans on RPing a largely logic-based race.

On the subject of shluwrring Shkrell Shpeech, I try to encourage players to think about if it fits their character. Is it likely that Psudoa trained out of his accent by this point in his life? That said, it's my opinion that you made the right call with this character. He is very young and it appears as if he was planning on serving with the Jargon military until recently. Considering his sudden shift to working in a largely human environment, I don't see any reason why this specific character would have trained out of the accent. A Skrell doesn't /need/ an accent, but it's extremely likely that this Skrell would have one. Try and have fun with it. Draw the line wherever you feel it needs to be drawn. Shtick to old Shterotypesh or try mahkyng yowur own ruwls for the young officer's speech patterns.

I expect Psudoa develop quite a bit on station and to do an excellent job of representing his family in the work space. How this character will play out is entirely up to you, but I think you've made a great start.

This application has my full support.

Lorewise, a Skrellian slur is a biological construct, not a psychological construct. I don't really get how Skrell could possibly train out of this biological defect.

However, since I'm currently wasting e-space on this thread, I'll just say that while GhostInSpace's record may be a tad spotted, I've found his characters to be refreshingly believable, and I think he would only add to the Skrellian gene pool.
