Code2200
BYOND key: Jaden Kent Character names: Jaden Halliwell How long have you been playing on Aurora?: 7-8 months Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I mainly play a Medical Doctor and wish to be able to run the department. Why did you come to Aurora?: The roleplay and rules have been a nice vetting system. Most of the SS13 servers are crazy to say the least. Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?: Yes, I have. Please provide well-articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplaying is acting as a character other than yourself. Our in game players are not gods and are to maintain their level of knowledge in certain areas. This allows for a sense of realism and believability. It also maintains a bit of balance to the game. This is done by making sure an engineer cannot clone and fallen coworker. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: Other than trying to correct the merging of IC information into OOC. The Heads should not really bleed into OOC. Their place, as with all ingame characters are to remain in character. OOC, is for talking about things that do not pertain to the current game round. With IC information bleeding into the OOC for all to see. It really destabilizes the round. As much as we try not to let it affect us we end up treating certain people differently. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: The responsibilities of the Whitelisted players when it comes to OOC would be to uphold the “no IC in OOC” during game rounds. This would be done by informing a player in OOC to not violate that rule. AS well as informing an Admin if it does not stop. It also expands to out of character knowledge of certain systems. It is a whitelisted player’s or really all players’ responsibility to make sure all characters stay within there “limits” in all forms. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well-articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Jaden Halliwell Character age: 41 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Dr. Jaden Halliwell, knew from a young age that he wanted to practice medicine. He struggled through college financially, but he pushed himself to the edge. After Jaden finished his Bachelors degree. He applied and was accepted to Harvard Medical School. It was the best day of his life. Not only did he into a top tier school, but he also was able to stay on his home planet, Earth. Jaden, studied hard and graduated Summa Cum Laude, top of his class. It was at that moment that he knew all of the hard work and student debt was worth it. Dr. Halliwell applied to NT when he was thirty years old right after he finished his two year residency. He has been with the company ever since. He loves the challenges that come with being a doctor in space. The thrill of saving a person’s life give him such a rush. His knowledge of medicine has become even more robust, with the eleven years of experience under his belt. Jaden’s professional life is not the only thing about him though. Doctor Jaden Halliwell is a gay man; with a very loving partner, a lawyer on several other stations. The two of them never get much time together. Which sadly, is the price to pay for being successful in one’s career. However, they would never give up their positions for anything. What do you like about this character?: Dr. Jaden Halliwell, has had a rough start onboard the Aurora, from personality conflicts with several members to the many friends made in the department and other areas. Dr. Halliwell, is strong minded and stands for what he believes in. With his background he respects a person who works hard for what they have in life. What do you dislike about this character?: Jaden Halliwell, can be slightly head strong at times. He also sometimes has a little problem with authority. It is not in his nature to grant respect to someone just because of a title, he expect a person to earn it. He also is slightly egotistically because of his Harvard background. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: Jaden Halliwell, is an amazing doctor. So many years of experience in the field. He also takes control or tries to in some cases in the absence of a CMO on duty. He has seen how a med bay should be run and expects nothing less. Please provide well-articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: I stay in character rather well. I will admit that sometimes I do things that my character probably should not have knowledge of such as cloning. I could stand to us “ME” a little bit more which I have been slowly doing more and more. If I had to assign it a number I would say a 6 or 7 out of 10. Extra notes: Link to comment
Guest
Just gonna voice a few strong concerns here. While Halliwell is a perfectly pleasant and courteous character, I'm leery of the idea of a head of staff that doesn't have at least a baseline knowledge and competence of all aspects of their department. In a pinch, you should be able as a character to both DIRECT and SUPERVISE unskilled or amateur personnel within your department in proper procedure. Or lacking competent staff, perform the procedures yourself. That's why I'd suggest reimagining Halliwell as an older man, or creating a new character entirely for your CEEMO. It's a semi-OOC gripe, but I'm sure you see where I'm coming from. Link to comment

Guest
Cloning, surgery, cryo, and chemistry are all supposedly under your purview as a ceemo. I've seen you muck these up, but that's probably due to lack of access and character flaws. If you play Halliwell without these handicaps as a Ceemo, it's going to lead to better qol for the crew, especially when short staffed. Link to comment

Surely, a CMO would be trained in some of these things. OOC wise, I know how it works. I have done cryo perfectly. So, I'm not to sure what you mean by cryo or surgery for that matter. I do surgeries all the time especially on the night shift. Link to comment
Guest
I can attest that Jaden Halliwell is a great doctor and pretty much ran a one man medbay during an antag round. As for the concerns raised by Callabaddie, we have multitude of characters that are not skilled in all areas of medbay but got the CMO role anyway. I would rather not put up double standards of this type on seemingly new players. Link to comment
Japak121
He can roleplay and understands the rules and expectations of the server. He doesn't escalate conflict unreasonably (which I've had first hand experience with) and the fact he doesn't play his character as a know-it-all in there department, to me, is actually a positive. ALOT of department heads are crap at certain areas of there department ICly and/or OOCly. Even in real life many corporate managers don't have knowledge in all areas under there perview. Personally, I think they've earned the chance to show us what they've got. We could definitely use more CMO's too. Link to comment
Killerhurtz
Okay. I'm either mistaking this character for someone else, or this person has one of the most realistic nurses I've seen so far. The player is quite good - and I've seen a few instances where they COULD have powergamed to get things done, yet chose not to. I'm also vouching for this application. I think. Yo, Code - Jaden's the one who two-person-worked Medical with Lua, right? Where we saved like three people? Link to comment

Killerhurtz
Nurses, MD, same difference. ;P But anyhow, point still stands. I'm 90% certain Jaden's the good doc I remember. Link to comment
darkgucon
I find he knows how to roleplay and can work rather effectively, he has fields he knows, and some he doesn't, and can handle a situation if it needs handling. He's a good surgeon and can fix a lot of issues, and is a fun person to work around with. I think he would make a good cmo. Link to comment
The lancer
His roleplaying abilities are of a high standard, he can surely do his job well and knows the rules. I would surely make him a CMO if i were NT. Link to comment
Arkin100
Finally an application for a character I know relatively well! Normally I feel hesitant about posting in these forums, both because I'm new, and I feel that my input is slightly irrelevant. I'll definitely take a stab at this one: To cut to the chase, I honestly hope you do end up getting the position, because if you're not worthy of it then I'm probably not worthy of my own application. Now to those of you who actually wish to know why, here are my considerations: I've had the pleasure of running into Dr. Halliwell several times over my short career on the server, and I have to say he was always a striking figure to me. He always seemed to know what he was doing, always seemed calm and in control, and always gave my character the best possible treatment at the time (I've never been fatally injured while on the Aurora, but I've seen him taking care of other critical patients while I was in the area, so I count those as well). Sadly I never got to interact with him on a scale that would allow me to accurately gauge his character's performance - but I certainly never felt any inconsistencies with his act. OOC wise: Code2200 strikes me as a player who knows nearly every aspect of this job to a fault, and deliberately handicaps himself in order to portray his character more convincingly. Considering how easy and tempting it is to Metagame, this is truly admirable in my opinion. Lastly: To me, it goes a long way when a character's personality and traits match the background story behind it. Usually I love to nit-pick and find small clashes between a character's story and their personality ingame, but I can honestly say I found none in your application. Goodluck with your application, I'll be looking forward to more adventures in game! Link to comment

Huivn
I've only really played one round with this person, but their character seemed interesting, and they were clearly quite competent, even picking up the abbreviated names of all the chemicals in my "High Pop, Medbay's Empty" cryo mix instantly. I'll give them my +1, especially since our characters are all but doomed to clash if he becomes CMO Link to comment
Killerhurtz
Oh man, I can see this becoming a Medbay from Hell. Jaden VS Jack while Lua watches on and tries not fucking up the competitive ordering of chemicals from the chemistry lab. Looking forward to it. Link to comment
Reyjakai
I've had plenty of run-ins with Jaden on my main character, most of which ended up in some sort of fight or severe disagreement, all of which have led to more interesting situations and ultimately been pretty hilarious. Don't see a reason why you shouldn't be approved for a head whitelist. You've handled my bullshit pretty well so far. Edit: I totally almost left this reading white headlist instead of head whitelist. I gotta sleep. Link to comment
