Zebrian
BYOND Key: Zebrian Character Names: Paddy Pratt, Maddox Pratt, Finn Pratt, Roger Greene, Laila White, Oscar Scott. How long have you been playing on Aurora: Around 1 week. Species you are applying to play: Dionaea Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: Dionaea are a fascinating species, whose unique needs and downright in-human biology make them really interesting to play. They do not feel pain, not truly, and they have difficulty connecting with the faster races. But they are INTELLIGENT. Slow to action, but unstoppable once they begin moving. They are great fun, and I'd love to have a chance to play them on this server. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Tajaran, they are big cats, striving to survive. Unathi, lizards, warriors. Skrell, the intellects. Humans, the jack of all trades. But Dionaea? They are not like any others. They are not like people. They do not feel. They do not hurt. They know nothing but curiousity. They reach across the stars for it. They ponder what is, not to know their place, but simply to know. Why does this species in particular hold your interest? They are not humans. They are unlike humans entirely. And that makes for plenty of mistakes, errors, and faux-pas. All of which lead to better, more real RPing, since you have unintentional conflict that does not feel forced. Character Name:Blast (bear with me, it is a very strange name for a Dionaea) Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Blast is not a fully grown Dionaea gestalt, but a grown one. He was 'born' on Aurora itself, one of a pair of twin Diona Nymphs. He was the smaller of the two twins, leaving less mass overall to his body. This stunt in his growth affected his mind, leaving him even more child-like than most Nymphs. He became attached to Dandy Azoth, his 'mother', the botanist in charge. He then wandered the station, taking samples of blood from those he came across (including a Skrellian). He ended up taken in by a Security Cadet by the name of Alan Zimmer. He became an honourary cadet in charge of the front desk of Sec. Tragedy befell the station in the form of a viral plague. Virology was bombed, and the only plan of action was to clone the deceased once the virus was gone. Dandy was one of the victims. Blast was affected heavily by his mother's death, and rebirth. He realized later that terrorists were responsible for the damage to the station, which led to his mother's death and rebirth. He decided to officially apply for the Security division of NT when he was fully grown into a gestalt. What do you like about this character? Unique, different Diona. Full backstory for the growing time on station, and different due to genetic material from both Humans and Skrell. Can put people slightly off balance with the strangeness of him. How would you rate your role-playing ability? Good, but could always use improvement. Notes: - Entire backstory is true, occured in game. - Can speak common, understand Skrellian, and fluent in sign language, learned from his mother. - This was THE best round I have ever played. I felt a need to make Blast a reality. Happy to change name to something longer, as is Dionaea custom. Link to comment
Jboy2000000
I know the name is a little odd for a Diona, but his roleplaying as Blast was done masterfully, Ive seen my fair share of Diona, even one played by Pump, and as a clear shot I say he surpassed all of them. For the first time since I joined BYOND, not just Aurora, I felt genuine emotion for a character's death because of the attachment she formed with him. Link to comment
SgtSammac
Hmm. I don't normally voice my support on these much any more. But you got it this time buster! The fact that the backstory is built from IC occurances is a plus, and from reading the app, I don't see any reason why not. Link to comment
Tablespoon
As a heads up, generally negative events (e.g. Someone dying) are not considered canon from round to round. Fine with the backstory as long as you reference it in vague terms (or apply it to an anonymous different station), to avoid conflicts (such as saying crewmen we xyz died that shift...when they're being played by someone that round) That being said, grab one more endorsement and explain how your Dionaea will act Dionaea-ey as a sec officer, and this app is good to go Link to comment
Jboy2000000
As the player of Dandy, unless its mandatory he has to make it vague/on another station, Im more than ok with her death and cloning being canon in this instance. Link to comment
Zebrian
He will not actually remember her dying. He was a newborn, he would never have heard of cloning, and CERTAINLY would no bring it up in conversation. At most, he would mention her getting sick, because of terrorists. As for Dionaea in a Sec role, I would play him as incredibly curious. He would ask many questions, likely annoying many with his enthusiasm. He would learn, and he would practice. Less likely to ask to patrol, and more likely to stand guard. The threat of civilians in danger would send him running into danger with barely a thought (as fast as he could, anyway.) Speaking of which, due to exposure to the genetics of much faster species, action-wise, is it permissible to have him talk at a more human speed? I would really like to play him as a creature of both worlds, surrounded by beings very unlike him, and yet striving to fit in, to be a part of the station "grove" as it were. Link to comment

Doing so would not only remove an element used for balance, but would also be very difficult, requiring a creation of a new entity on the whitelist. So, unfortunately, this is not something I would do. Link to comment

If so, perfectly understandable, it will make him even more fun to play. Thanks for the reply. Link to comment
Tablespoon
Accetped. Unfortunately, as Skull said, your Dionae defaults will remain as defaults. You'll talk at the speed of a dionae. If we make an exception for you, we got to make it for everyone, which I doubt the programmers are willing to do. Link to comment
