LIIIQUIIIID'S...Unathi App

Recommended Posts

BYOND Key:LiquidRecluse

Character Names:David Artorcez, Aldabert Von Krieger, Stark Jegan, Kshatriya, Borcuse Girge.

Species you are applying to play:Unathi

What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt):Red

Have you read our lore section's page on this species?:

Yes.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question

Why do you wish to play this specific race:

Well, I actually wanted to play an alien species due to the fact that Humans and Cyborgs can get so boring. So when I thought of what species I should try out, I went 'eeh, the station could use more liggers', plus, they're culture and lore is so intriguing that it can give me more character ideas for a while. So when I said I was going to make this, suddenly i get barraged by Alberyk's 'unathi app when' messages and now we're here.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than

role-playing a Human:Well, they have such a distinct culture, values and views than Humans, that it makes their reactions to what Human's would normally react to much more interesting, I.E also, they're from a totally different background than humans and their said culture is very interesting. I.E, they take a lot of importance in things like Clans or Vassal links, the whole social faux-pas with using a first name unless family or a close person, and, ugh, TAIL-TOUCHING. Or any touching at all before introductions. Also, their views on women and said women's roles are very...interesting. The difference between women and property is vague, as described in their culture, they are discouraged from reading as writing, as that is seen as a man's job. They cannot join the military and are expected to cook and clean and clean disgusting leather diapers while the male is away. So, there's a great disparity between genders.

Character Name:Aersari Yinzr

Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs

Aesari Yinzr is a product of a Marriage-turned-feud which ended long ago, as such, he was one of the rare red colored Yinzr clan members. Being born sometime in the middle of the Contact War, most of his male family members were busy in the conflict, so he was raised without a clear father figure, having to be raised instead by his Grandfather and Uncles. After his Father had died in the Contact War, he began looking for something productive and helpful to do. Fate would have it, that around the time NanoTrasen still had facilities on Moghes, he worked with the company in the security field, he had been in contact with them and was planning on becoming a Security Officer, since he was fascinated with the outside world and Humans, he craved something better than the irradiated and desert homeworld they had. But, unfortunately, NanoTrasen left due to the conflict between the Hegemony, and he was thrown into the navy due to the vassalage ties to the Hemegony that the Yinzr Clan has. He didn't like it, but he had no choice, having doubts about the navy from the start and contemplated deserting, then the Paloma defeat occurred, and that was the nail in the coffin. Aersari deserted, earning the dishonorable title of 'Guwan' and being exiled from the clan. However, Aersari was not as devastated as he should have been, as this was an opportunity! After traveling here and there for a while, he eventually found his way back to NanoTrasen and was looking for one of their various ships and stations to work on.

He eventually ran into Sslahizr Yinzr, the Clan Leader's grandson, they talked a bit, eventually, Yinzr offered him shelter on Biesel, being a bit wary, since he felt he might get caught helping a Guwan. Aersari then joined up on the NSS Exodus, and the rest is history.

What do you like about this character?

Well, he's an interesting character concept and his backstory is interesting, so I wanted to try it out and Unathi seemed like the only species that was interesting enough to have me try it, he also was devastated by his Father's death, so during NT's Moghes era, he saw that as a perfect opportunity to learn how to 'protect' people, so he's sort of that cliche 'tragic father's death causes protagonist to try and become better' sort of character, but as an Unathi, so...yeah.

Also, Alberyk helped me out with the concept, smoothing it out, so that helped.

How would you rate your role-playing ability?

9.3/10, I can improve, but I'm not awful.

Notes:

Thanks to Alberyk for helping me with this App, without his help this would've been an awful garbage mess.

My only experience with this player is them opening a hazardous, on-fire area as their borg before I could finish venting it, to remove a welder, but questionable decision making isn't an indication of bad roleplay. In fact, in many cases it can make things more entertaining than being a powergamer. I'm a little dubious about adding another Yinzr, but as long as you don't roar A WARRIORS DEATH and rush into dangerous combat situations constantly (we have enough of that already), I think you'd be alright.

earning him the title of 'Guwan' and being exiled from the Yinzr Clan
In some cases when a Unathi is exiled from their clan, they do not take up the formal title of Guwandi. This can be through fear of death, unwillingness, or simple stubbornness. In this case, they are marked as 'Guwan' by their clan leader, and must take this as their last name. It is a variation on Guwandi, which is translated directly as 'exile'. Guwans are clanless Unathi, and form an underclass. Guwans find it difficult if not impossible to advance socially or politically, and in many cases are oppressed or mistreated by other Unathi who view them as troublemakers or criminals. The only way of returning to a clan after banishment as a Guwan is to be adopted back into the Clan, which happens very rarely.

Many Guwan have been forced off of Moghes by their clans with the growing ease of space travel, and Nanotrasen has a long history of exploiting this subgroup of Unathi, coercing them into employment contracts.

Doesn't it mean that such influential, important and honorable Unathi like Sslahizr wouldn't really care about Aersari? Or, basically every other Unathi wouldn't want to talk to him?

Shouldn't Aersari Yinzr have his name changed to Aersari Guwan?

IMHO, one 'muh honour' ligger is enough. Also, considering this quote '"Yinzr, don't go out there and stab that giant Carp with a glass spear." "FUCK YOU THIS IS HONORABLE AS FUCK."', it really looks like it's an application to cause mess and valid-hunt because of honour as two Unathi-bro's.

Well, Alberyk told me that Sslazihr is not suposed to be important or influencial among other unathi,

and that he'd most likely care for him out of pity, not all Unathi wouldn't talk to him even if he is a Guwan. Also, he has his last name as 'Yinzr' on the Exodus as to hide his shame so he isn't outcasted by the Unathi there.

Also, I just wanted to add some humor with the 'honorable as fuck' part, if you were worrying, I wouldn't valid-hunt for honor, not sure Alberyk would either, we're just planning on RPing an interesting concept, is all.

Hello, I'm sorry for the delay. Code transition borked something up with the whitelist control panel so the lore team's ability to give whitelists is sporadic at best. I'm going to try to work out a way to just shove all whitelists pending approval to a coder so they can hack the database like that one time in the Matrix.

Your application specifically, (I like to be in depth and explain things)

Being Guwan invalidates your character's ability to be any level of important or impact in Unathi society. It's the absolute bottom you can go in Unathi society while still reasonably being hired. I created it for Unathi players that want to be in an explicit underclass without having to go with ritualistic suicide. To be marked Guwan is more serious than being kicked out of your Clan - it's being disowned and becoming an Untouchable because the Clan absolutely does not want any association with you. Guwans so far that I've seen on station have been things like drug addicts, alcoholics, or otherwise carrying the aesthetic of a hobo. Which is great! I mean there's nothing to say a Yinzr wouldn't offer him charity, but it'd earn that Yinzr scorn and angry scowls from everyone else. So it's possible, but it has to be accepted that it'd cause friction within the Clan. With that explained,

"FUCK YOU THIS IS HONORABLE AS FUCK."

These sort of mindsets raise little red flags. The Unathi, despite their reputation, aren't mindless brutes. The honor system is based on a culture heavily entrenched in tradition and twists on chivalry. Unathi should also always try to respect their leaders, and if ordered to not do something, it should be expected that they not do it unless it's a bizarre breach of their sense of integrity and loyalty.

You also briefly point out that there are differences between Moghes and Earth, Unathi and human, but you don't exactly explain what you think those differences are. Yes, the culture is different, and yes they have different mindsets, but you don't show that you know what these are.

The character background is usually where I give the biggest benefit of the doubt. Even if you don't recite the entire history like you're trying to pass Unathi History 141, a compelling, well-thought out character can show investment and thought. The background here is very barebones - it's a summary of his life but there's no showing how he feels about any of this. "X Y and so Z happened" is a weakness for these things if we don't know how the character feels, or what their motives are.

As it stands I can't see this application being accepted. You do have people giving you +1's, so I'm going to leave this application open and let you edit the OP to see if you can try to address what I said above. I'll give it, I dunno, until Friday?

Your edits show that you do have a grasp on how to play a Unathi and that you put thought and effort into your character. I'll be happy to accept this application!
