TheNitrosKiller2 Jobban Appeal

BYOND Key: TheNitrosKiller2

Total Ban Length: Permanent

Banning staff member's Key: Unknown

Reason of Ban: Banned from Syndicate - Ganking as nuke ops - shot repeatedly at random people in an attempt to "instill fear", tried to break into areas filled with unarmed civilians with obvious attempts to cause harm, ganked the non-resisting HoP with an esword to take his ID instead of roleplaying.

Reason for Appeal: I did gank the Head of Personnel, but he had intent to shoot me. He had pulled a gun on me before. I required his identification card to help get the nuclear disk (adjust my identification card to give me captains access, then take the nuke disk from the captain's office). And about role playing, I don't think syndicate operatives are psychopaths that drag their victims in to a room, and have a neat little conversation together before they kill their person with a knife. Or drag a bag over their heads and cut their throats. They just kill them. That is the safest way to do it. And they don't just randomly kill, and that was not a random kill. And you can not mug a man with a backpack. And, had I left him alone he could have contacted central and gotten an emergency response team to the station to deal with the syndicate threat. And, me and my partner did shoot in to crowds. They refused to move when I told them to "Move!", and I needed them to fear us, so they would comply with my orders. And, I felt threatened by this big mass of people who could overrun me, push me, and then get me killed. It is that easy, especially if it is a group of 10 people, some of them armed security forces. And, I had business to deal with on the other side of their mass so I had to get them to move. And, getting people in to the medical bay causes a lot of good role play, and fun for the shot party (I do not believe I killed anyone but the Head of Personnel and an assistant who ran at me with a crowbar). I also did not attempt to break in to any areas to try to cause harm. Additionally, I wish to apologize to anyone who was negatively affected by this event. I would also like to state I have been a nuclear operative only a few times, and it is hard to role play as someone/something that you have hardly any experience with. Thank you.

This entire appeal proves to me that you don't understand why you've been antag-banned.

Let's look at a few things.

I did gank the Head of Personnel, but he had intent to shoot me.

You don't know that. You obviously had the advantage on the HoP, given that you had the time to walk up to him, and kill him with an esword. The HoP did not take his gun out once during the entire fight - you basically killed someone "because they could be a threat". You had many other ways of neutralizing a threat /without/ killing them, while providing roleplay, such as by holding them at gunpoint and forcing them to surrender their weapon. Why the approach of "hack at them with a sword" was taken over that is beyond me.

I don't think syndicate operatives are psychopaths that drag their victims in to a room, and have a neat little conversation together before they kill their person with a knife. Or drag a bag over their heads and cut their throats. They just kill them.

Except having an elite kill team that takes the station by storm and instantly executes everyone wouldn't be very fun, would it? That's why we require people to get a bit more creative, and if they are going to kill players, make it more fun for the victims than "you were in the way, you had to die".

had I left him alone he could have contacted central and gotten an emergency response team to the station to deal with the syndicate threat

Then make him an asset - kidnap him, use him as leverage. Execute him when he's no longer of use to you, but make an /effort/ to provide the player with some roleplay before offing them. Also, killing the HoP doesn't stop anyone else from contacting centcom. This is why you take control of the bridge, destroy consoles, blow up telecomms if you must, etc.

And, me and my partner did shoot in to crowds. They refused to move when I told them to "Move!", and I needed them to fear us, so they would comply with my orders. And, I felt threatened by this big mass of people who could overrun me, push me, and then get me killed.

And there is no better way to anger/agitate a mob of people than to shoot randomly at them. The moment you discharge your gun at people, you lose the only dissuasive measure you have; the possibility that you might, in fact, not shoot at people if they comply with your orders. If you prove you don't care about that, then of course people won't listen. Shooting sends everyone in a panic, and shooting randomly, especially in this game, does not create order.

And, getting people in to the medical bay causes a lot of good role play, and fun for the shot party

Do not confuse "roleplay" with "work". You /can/ find some good roleplay around incidents such as hull breaches or injuries, but such roleplay is created by the involved players, not the antags which caused these incidents. You contribute nothing to the round by shooting people randomly - you merely prove to be an uninteresting annoyance, providing people no incentive to roleplay yourself.

I also did not attempt to break in to any areas to try to cause harm.

You and/or your partner were attempting to break into the medbay at some point, which people had tried to take shelter in after you started shooting at random. I'm not sure which of you two did it, or if you were both involved, so I'm willing to overlook that.

it is hard to role play as someone/something that you have hardly any experience with

I feel like you need to learn a lot more about antags before you consider playing them again. Take account of what is fun for others first and foremost, not what is the most realistic. Replies such as "syndicate ops just kill" are no way to get an antag-ban lifted. I would strongly recommend you take the time to read our rules again, and take a look at antagonist guides.

You are an administrator of a heavy role play server. As in realistic.

Allow me to chime in here, as a former modmin.

No.

That heavy roleplay label means you're here to do one thing. Roleplay. Roleplay always, always trumps realism here. It doesn't matter if your character is a cliche run-of-the-mill no-nonsense gruff ex-mercenary special ops agent that routinely stomps puppies and throws kittens at walls. If you run in and decide to gank, even if it's what your character would do, there will be consequences.

Think of it this way. People play this game to have fun. The people here have fun by roleplaying. Roleplaying usually ends up taking hours. By running in and blowing someone's head off without any roleplay, you're basically wasting several hours of that person's life in one fell swoop. Would you like it if someone did that to you?

Of course not. Getting your head blown off tends to put a damper on anyone's day.

OP, I agree that it doesn't make much sense for a Nuke Op to have a neat conversations with the crew of the station, or for chabgeling - a vicious hunter whose only goal is to absorb puny humans' genomes to do the same. But rules are still rules. Owners of the server make them, and players who want to play on their server have to respect those rules. They host the server, spend time and money so those who are willing can play there. Like one of the admins explained to me, any situation that leads to the killing have to be roleplayed. As a nuke, feel free to take hoatages and kill them if they try to resist, or as a changeling feel free to kill the depressed officer who was invited by you, disguised as a psychiatrist on a session. Or if you are in a hurry and are being pursued, you can cut pursuers' leg off if you feel like it. Antagonists here are not about nuke or syndicate, they are about making the situations that can provide fun for players participating. I do not always agree with this, sometimes it feels weird, and sometimes other players are powerplaying against you without respecting the rules. It can let anybody down, but we shouldn't stop our attempts to RP properly or from abiding the rules. Report people who are breaking the rules, and sooner or later Aurora will become a proper RP server where you can trust any other player to pick up your roleplaying without trying to powergame you. Admins are doing their best. I am sure that if you acknowledge your mistake and promise to play on Aurora the way it's meant yo be played by server owner(s), you would be given a second chance. We need good players, and some of the best of them come from those who made some mistakes once and have experience that helps them to prevent from doing it again.
