[Accepted] House_Of_Synth's Head of Staff Application

Recommended Posts

BYOND key: House_Of_Synth

Character names: Harry Wells (scientist), Rick Stevenson (Roboticist), Remus Avardy (engineer), Sirius Rayner (nursing intern (for now)), John West (security officer) T.R.A.V.I.S (AI) and J.A.S.P.E.R (borg)

How long have you been playing on Aurora?: I have been playing on Aurora for roughly two months.

Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I would like to become a Research Director. So I can help coordinate science so everybody can make the most out of the round and to add to the overall RP of the science department.

Why did you come to Aurora?: It started when we would always ask one of our friends to play with us and he would say "oh let me just finish this round of Space station 13".. Eventually I though I may as well see what the game was like so he recommended Aurora as (in his words) "it's one of the best roleplay servers in "ss13"" so I got in and I really enjoyed playing and seeing such a nice community in a server.

Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?: Yes, and I will also probably look back at it every once-and-a-while

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each.

Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay to me is creating what would at first seem like a simple story, and letting it branch out over time, nobody should expect their character to be extremely well thought through right away, that's the beauty of it.. Its writing your own story and keeping up with others stories as well, this makes everyone different. Roleplay also plays a part in other people's experience with the game/server itself, if you just speak and act extremely generic, your co-workers won't really find you very interesting to work with, but if your character has a personality and acts accordingly with that personality it makes the game more interesting for people.

What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: I think the OOC purpose of a HoS (Head of Staff) is to co-ordinate their department, to make it work like a well oiled machine rather than everyone running around like headless chickens, this can be fustrating to both the station and the players in the department therefore the head of staffs job is to coordinate everyone in their department. This also helps the players have fun in the round, as they know what they are doing and don't have to deal with fustration. Personally I enjoy having a research director on the science team as it allows everyone to do their jobs efficiently as they don't have to make assumptions on what they can do or not do.

What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: I believe it is to set two examples.. The first is that if you wan't authority on the server you have to earn it by being respectful, for example in these applications (4th wall break is real) people give their opinions on you, your roleplay and your general attitude to them and the server, this goes towards whether you get accepted or not, so if just don't care for the RP and don't care whether other people have fun you may as well not play on a server with heavy RP and where people want to have fun.. The second is that anyone can apply for a HoS application, it allows for people to experience the game from another angle. I never thought I would apply for research director but here I am now. I want to show everyone that you don't need to be a genius to be a head of staff, you just need to have a good effect on others around you

Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions.

Character name: Harry Wells

Character age: 44

Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Harry was born into an average sized family, where he was encouraged to do his best. He had always been fascinated with science and the unknown and wanted to work on a space-station since he was only 5 as his father worked as an engineer aboard a station. He left school at 18 with excellent grades in science and mathematics, he then pursued a degree in robotics and studied it for 4 years he then decided to persue a PhD in robotics as he thoroughly enjoyed it, at this point he was already 30. Due to his excellent achievement NanoTransen offered him a job as a roboticist aboard one of their stations, a job in which he worked for 7 years.. He then decided to accept a 1 year research and development course before working as a research scientist aboard the same station for 5 years. Eventually he decided he would take advantage of his mathematics results and worked as a telescientist on a bluespace research outpost for one year. He then transferred station and now works aboard the NSS Aurora, working as a scientist and sometimes a robocist. He has applied for Research Director but has not heard from N.T. at the present time.

What do you like about this character?: He works well with his co-workers and trys to help his department in whatever way he can and trys his best at all times. He does help the station aswell, for example once a IPC was attacked by carp and ended up almost dead, Harry managed to teleport him back to the science department where he applied repairs using his prior knowledge in robotics. He has also provided advanced technology to the station when he could.

What do you dislike about this character?: Sometimes he can dip into trying to be a little more like someone in command than he should be, but manages to avoid it at most times. He also tends to stay holed up in his lab so perhaps he should "go out" and meet new people.

What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: Although he can be quite casual toward his co-workers he can also become extremely serious over certain situations. He strives to keep the crew safe when he can. He also helps when he can, using his knowledge to his advantage.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions.

How would you rate your own roleplaying?: I would say a 7 or 8/10 as sometimes I "lose grip" on my character.. but that is happening less and less as I play. I try to make my roleplaying fun for other players, although I think I could improve this with a little bit more interaction with them, something being a Research Director would improve. My grammar slips up as well from time to time, as does my spelling which can be awful at times.

Extra notes: Mwuhaha, now I can be the one to pester everyone for paperwork also constructive criticism is appreciated.

Honestly your role playing with Rick is good, harry not so much, but not bad. I just wanted to give you a quick pointer as I assume Harry will be becoming the Research Director.

"Qualifications: At least 30 years of age, 10 years experience in science-related field, PhD (several preferred)." https://aurorastation.org/wiki/index.php?title=Research_Director

You worked in a degree, that's awesome. You need to try to work in a PhD though, maybe one in xenoanatomical studies? (Xenobiology) You could cut down an extra year from his cybernetics degree, since it only requires four years to get, then try to incorporate a PhD in. Other then that, I'll plus 1 this once the back story is modified slightly.

You know, I haven't had any OOC Issue with you, and I believe you're fairly calm with OOC issues that arise. I have rped with some of these characters, and seen them about, and I do believe he understands RP and does a alright time at keeping in the moment. But for now, your answers under the paragraph need to be fleshed out more, as articulated, two or more good sentences. So for now, I'll give No Vote, Please do see if you can add more my friend by editing the application
