enkas
BYOND key: Enkas Character names: Hartam Belorin, Cylia Tuvies, Terry Paulson, Raymond Tanner, Ayden Nehling, Garry Milders, HAMMER. How long have you been playing on Aurora?: It seems to be over two months now. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: Mainly to fill in the position when there is no head online, to lead the departments I feel comfortable around and for the prestige of the cockpit Why did you come to Aurora?: Well, in a server I played before, I got fed up with constant chucklefucks, and demanded some serious RP. I was advised to go to Aurora, and here I am, happy and no longer suffering from RP withdrawal. Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?: Of course. Please provide well articulated and argumented answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: I see roleplaying as somewhat improvised acting and a writing of a story with the help of other players. There are no predetermined scripts, and usually rather little prediction. You are developing your character along with other players, and slowly weave a story that you usually don't know how it's going to end. And that lack of prediction is the probably one of the most interesting parts of roleplaying. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: The OOC purpose of a head ingame, is supposed to be to keep an eye over how the department works. To guide the people of your department over the more difficult processes and to help the new players learn the ropes in the department. A head should also take the responsibility of watching out for griefers and chucklefucks that may come to the department. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: First of all, is to follow the server's rules to the letter and make an example like that. Secondly, they should roleplay correctly. And thirdly, they should be able to teach the new players the mechanics of the game/department. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Terry Paulson Character age: 31 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Terry was born in Biesel, in the capital of Lowell City. There, he has lived most of his life, growing up in a family of a mediocre wealth. From young age, Terry has been very talented at math, physics and IT. As a teenager, he was interested in electronics, constantly dismantling various electrical equipment, and rebuilding them (not always successfully), until he has finally caught the grasp of those things. His constant inquisitivness and talent in the previously mentioned fields gave him good grades in school, which later ended up in getting an easy spot inside Lowell city's univercity to study engineering. He did good in there, and graduated it at the cost of his social life. And then, he got a steady job as an electrician inside a minor company. While working, Paulson has also been taking some more studies about other fields of engineering. He easily took the grasp of setting up and maintaining various engines, had some studies on atmospherics, and even getting a plumber's license. However, the company that Terry has worked in was bought by NanoTrasen, and that is where his real work actually started. He worked on the NSS Horizon station at first, where he also learned about mechatronic engineering. After several years though, Terry Paulson was transfered over to NSS Aurora, where his skills are continuesly honed, and noticed. What do you like about this character?: Terry is friendly and hard-working, showing great competance in his department, and also taking great pride in his work. What do you dislike about this character?: He is somewhat arrogant, and therefore when he is under-appreciated, or when someone is doing any sort of sabotage, he might get a little aggressive and hostile. Yet despite his seldom aggression, the man is a coward, and would prefer to threaten a person, rather than going into an actual fight. He is also somewhat socially awkward, spurting out wrong sentences to wrong people. . Do you think this character is fit to be a Head of Staff? (Please note that Head characters must be over 30, unless given special clearance): Yes. Why?: Terry is a competant, educated and a hard working engineer. He knows what he does, and is proud of it. He has his own schedule of things to do during quiet shifts, and is able to take innitiative of making new projects to keep his department at work. Please provide well articulated and argumented answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: 7/10 I suppose. I have been roleplaying for over seven years on World of Warcraft, and while I can't compete with the paragraph-long emotes of some people, I find my roleplaying to be moderately good. Tainavaa
I do have one complaint. It will give him access to the Chief Medical Officer role. Other than that, my experience with his other characters - Cylia Tuvies, Hartam Belorin, and Terry Paulson have been pleasant. They have different personalities that are noticeably distinct from eachother, and play their roles well. I have had a little experience with all three and while my experience isn't extensive it's been fun for what little I have experienced them. Link to comment
Rechkalov
+1 Enkas makes a point of doing what I consider the 'highest' roleplay; specifically, he conveys the imagine of absolutely ordinary people in his characters, and manages to make them interesting in similarly ordinary way. In other words, his characters and "playstyle" both are most mature and he is by no means prone to consider himself and his chars the centerpoint of the whole damn universe, let alone to use far-fetched means to bring attention to himself - which, I've come to notice, is quite an issue with some of the other heads. I could continue, but I won't, because I doubt it is necessary in Enkas' case. 10/10 would upvote again. Link to comment
Dea Tacita
Hiya! So when looking over your application, I generally like what I see. This is a really good answer actually, it proves that you realize that you exist solely to oversee your department. While there's certain cases that you can intervene in other departments, you should generally use your time to supervise your own. This is a sorely absent part of many heads of staff. The one answer I dislike is this. Do you think this character is fit to be a Head of Staff? (Please note that Head characters must be over 30, unless given special clearance): Yes. Why?: While he might not be over 30 years old, Terry Paulson is a greatly competant engineer and an atmospheric technician. He knows his way about wires, engines and pipes, and has a good way around building and repairing stuff. Terry has also proven his competance several times, and was promoted to a provisional CE mid-game. This really, just isn't a good answer to me. Saying that he's competent doesn't mean anything, if there's circumstances that'd lead to an early promotion, state them . That's really the flaw I see in this application. +1 for me, as long as you either come up with a better reason or just make Terry older. Link to comment
enkas
Well, to my mind, CEs is probably the head position that requires least of education or experience, compared to the others. Either way, I doubt I can think of a better reason, so if everyone's okay with that, I'll just up his age a bit. Link to comment
Dea Tacita
I'm fine. Do that and I'm fairly sure we'll push it through. Link to comment
enkas
Already did it. By two years, if that is okay? Link to comment
Dea Tacita
You'd need to adjust the year he started working at NT then. Need to work for atleast 5 years before making head Link to comment
enkas
Will edit the character's employment records when I get the chance. And the biography does not have any exact date noted, so yeah. Link to comment
TishinaStalker
I have one issue concerning Terry Paulson: " He is also somewhat clumsy, and sometimes manages to release plasma, while filling the tanks, which is why he keeps his hardsuit on during such an operation." A CE known for being clumsy and at times releasing plasma? Releasing plasma isn't as small of a deal as people make it seem to be. Plasma in the air is highly dangerous and highly toxic. That's an extremely dangerous biohazard. Release of such a toxin (even as a workplace accident) shows that Terry Paulson doesn't have a definitive understanding of handling plasma if they didn't learn after the first time they released it on accident. enkas
He has this understanding, and usually does make some preperations before filling the tanks. He also usually gets someone else to do it, if that is a possibility. And he is also able to clear that room rather quick. Thing is, I added this clumsyness merely because of my early-game mistakes... So... If needed, I can edit it out. Link to comment
TishinaStalker
I think it would be best if you did. I mean, if accidentally releasing plasma is your character's fault as a CE, then that doesn't really seem acceptable. Link to comment
Guest
I've been doing engineering with Tony as an apprentice. First shift in, he showed me where everything was and how to set up the supermatter. Second shift, he showed me how to set up the engine, not to mention also quickly and effectively disposing of a blob. He always seems to know what equipment is needed. Few shifts I've had as an engineering apprentice were very enjoyable thanks to him. I don't really know what else you would expect from a CE. +1 Link to comment
