vtipoman Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 This is how it'd work: 1.--> voting begins, you can select your favorite option, your second favorite, third, etc... (depends on the total number of options) 2.--> voting ends, one option "wins" 3.--> the option with the least votes gets removed and its votes are transfered to the voters's second options. 4.-->Repeat 3. until one option remains and is declared the winner Result: Everyone can vote without thinking about other people's votes and it'd be still fair EDIT: Pretty sure bay has this already?
Kaed Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 This seems unnecessarily complicated when the other topic posted a very succinct alternative that takes every vote into account, without recasting votes a half dozen times. I don't care for it, and would rather have the weighted vote system.

I don't care for it, and would rather have the weighted vote system. -It's not that complicated. From a voter's viewpoint, you vote only once -The other system can lead to an unpopular or broken gamemode being picked just because one guy voted for it, possibly ruining the round for everyone else The other system doesn't fix the problem of people strategizing and thinking about everyone else's votes. It just intruduces randomness into the mix. EDIT: STV still takes every single vote into account, but in a more fair, democratic way
Nanako Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 this is just a more complex variant of approval voting, we should do that instead
Daughterofmysins Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 I mean, this seems complicated but I honestly think it'd be worth it just to not have to disable my OOC just because people are complaining
Guest Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 EDIT: STV still takes every single vote into account, but in a more fair, democratic way It's a more transparent method of being able to have a second choice if your primary vote effectively fails. I've always thought that we should've hidden vote counts and hidden the results until after the game has started and clues start to pop up over what the round type actually is as the game develops, but we cannot all be wieners. I'm a fan of this system, but it is fairly complex from a code standpoint. Lot of variables and such go into STV. Conceptually? It's not that bad. It'd take some work but a worthwhile task is never easy. http://prntscr.com/bjg6pd
Skull132 Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 60 seconds per vote or round. This would extend wait time in lobby by a very large margin. Which is unnecessary. The only voting system I'd actually approve of is: Everyone selects all the modes they would like to play that round The highest approved mode wins Reference: No need for reruns, and is probably "democratic enough." Though, I've yet to decide if I want to mess with the voting system. OH, and people will complain regardless. They're not complaining about the lack of democracy, they're complaining about the fact that the X mode they adore didn't win. Or that the Y mode they hate won. Both of which will still happen, regardless of what system we use.
