Arzion Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 The EMP is OP at the moment. It easily passes through walls, and all you need to do to condemn a synth to a certain death is just by throwing an EMP grenade within A RANGE OF 15 TILES. It is a quick killer against the Station AI, as it both drains APC power, and deactivates the SMES output. It needs a nerf. No more chucklefuck wizards who quickly kill the AI because they EMP'd in the certain vicinity with no worry for anything. The EMP should either : -Have less power -Have less range -Not be able to pass through walls There is almost no way of ever getting out of the EMP radius in time if you are within 5 tiles of the EMP grenade. It is too overpowered against robots, station AIs, and IPCs. The IPC can be straight out immediately sent into an almost-death state if the EMP grenade detonates in close proximity to the IPC.
Nanako Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 I agree fully. We may look at EMP more closely after skull is done porting things from upstream, including new robopeople
CakeIsOssim Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 As for the effect it has against synthetics, I disagree. It should disable, and destroy, synthetics with ease, because otherwise its only other use would be disabling energy weapons. What I do want, however, is for the environment to effect EMP like it does in real life. Everything, ever, will absorb an EMP depending on its makeup and thickness, because it's literally something something electricity and static science words. My point being, everything an EMP travels through reduces the strength of the EMP, more or less depending on what it traveled through. Steel walls should reduce its range a good deal for each wall traveled through. Reinforced walls, even more so. Things like glass and otherwise shouldn't reduce it that much.
DatBerry Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 id be ok with nerfing the range, its mostly fine as it is now, but when you get EMP'd in your department because someone threw one in the hallways it gets a bit inconvenient. the person throwing it cant help but get collateral damage because they cant see two screens big with xray vision
