[Denied] Ruddy Gore Whitelist Application

BYOND key: dustindps

Character names: Ruddy Gore

How long have you been playing on Aurora?: On and off for about two years I’ve visited, but haven’t actively started playing until about the beginning of last month.

Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I feel that I have enough knowledge of ss13 and Aurora to work a head of staff position.

Why did you come to Aurora?: Because it wasn’t too over crowded, under crowded, and actually actively does roleplay.

Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Sure have

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each.

Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay isn’t about winning, but the journey. It doesn’t necessarily have to have combat to have a fight to be fun. I am a D&D DM for 5e and have been playing rpgs for at least 5 years. When it comes to having fun in a game like this it is to tell a story, to play a role, and to deliver on that role. Otherwise you are missing the whole point of the game if you’re in it to ‘win’.

What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: I would say to possibly be one step below moderator? Help out the community by answering basic questions in OOC, and make sure there is no icky occky. Obviously, this doesn't mean that they are not to be enforcing rules, but reminding what they are.

What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: To make sure that that game is fun, engaging, and gives the players purpose to roleplay, and keep them in check within their departments. An in game moderator if you will.

Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions.

Character name: Ruddy Gore

Character age: 34

Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Ruddy Gore is a intellect. Born to a rough and tumble miner, Ruddy knows his way around a drill, but aspired to do more. When he was younger he lost his right eye to a mining accident and wears an eye patch to cover it. While he does have a mechanical eye under the patch, he doesn’t like to show it as he doesn't want to seem as a cripple, so he only takes off the patch when he’s alone. He has a fascination with science, particularly slimes. His father scraped together what he had and gave Ruddy a better life by putting him to school to find something in the science field. Ruddy graduated and got a job with NT with a major in Xenobiology and Xenoflora, and a minor in research and development.

What do you like about this character?: He can become fanatical about his work, coming to the point where he will go by any means to get the job done. If its research and development he will try to convince the HoP to let him have mining access to get the materials himself with the little mining experience he has. If its with Xenobiology he will try to bridge the gap between slime and man.

What do you dislike about this character?: He isn’t as unique as other characters since he is human. So I would say he’s generic

What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: With a good head on his shoulders and intelligence of science to back it up (including my ooc knowledge of the game) he would be able to run the Research Director position.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions.

How would you rate your own roleplaying?: 7/10 I’ve DMed more than I’ve played. But know what I’m doing.

I've seen you a bit here and there, but there's one major problem i have with this this app.

What do you like about this character?: A well rounded character that could fit into almost any profession on the station. I’ve ran this character since I’ve started playing ss13 and enjoy the way I make his personality.

server rules aside, this is just too snowflakey, and as a head of staff? that's just a big no. job hopping is an issue common with new people.

your character's childhood started out as a miner's son, good ok. he learned the profession from his father, but suddenly now he is a Xenobiologist dealing with slimes? when did he get the education? why did he take such a huge turn in his career? what is his actual limit? can he also setup the engine while performing surgery?

i suggest reading over the character creation rule set and playing more often.

I suppose I can see where you're coming from. I've typically played the same character through my time on ss13, with the idea that whatever profession you play leads to assume you're character is trained in that profession. However I have also mainly played on less RP servers that were looser. I will readjust the backstory and lead him to a more sound backstory.

Well, to be blatantly honest, there's a lot wrong here, so i think it's time to get it together

Well, i hope you take that to a low degree of reminding rules instead of trying to enforce them, because the latter is going to get you in problems with the server staff

No reason specially? he just spended a lot of money in a cyber eye but he doesn't uses 90% of the time, that's wrong in my opinion, but it's a minor point

As covered previously, this is a bad one, he apparently is 34 and can take "almost every prfession on the station"? training takes time, even more so with complex stuff like Xenobiology.

This is solely my opinion, one of the biggest snowflakes of the server is a human, so i wouldn't say that every human character isn't unique and instead is totally generic.

I have seen Ruddy in different roles several times, around science and so, he's so bland that i never could recall in what specific position he was

-1 from me, might be changed with some serious editting to your application

Well yeah, I'm not going to beat someone in game because they aren't following the rules, just remind them in ooc or looc. By no means would I be staff.

Yeah i've learned from this, especially in a heavy RP server. I've brought Ruddy to be just in science now since my revision. I have other characters to fill other roles now, including Ray Raymond, Richard Woodcox, and a few others.

Hope you go over my app again and give it a second thought.
