keinto
BYOND Key: keinto Character Names: Station Interface (AI), Leo Wyatt (Detective), Roy Wyatt (Atmospheric Technician), Balthazar Blackburn (Head of Security), Andrew Tanek (Security Officer), Benedict Jay (Atmospheric Technician), Hugo Khan (Atmospheric Technician), Cadet Sepi (Securiborg), Mopi (Janiborg), Other borgs ending in 'pi'. Species you are applying to play: IPC. What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: Those who have interfaced with Station Interface know that it has zero personality. I want to expand the playstyle into a synthetic crewmember. I want to inject more dry humor into whatever department I am currently working on or learning. I also think some of the IPC screens look pretty cool. I also find it an amusing challenge trying to remain calm ICly as a synthetic while being extremely annoyed OOCly by the way someone is playing. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Ideally, IPC will have less of a personality and emotions than their organic counterparts. Mechanic-wise, they have to worry about their batteries and evade EMP's like the plague. Character Name: Station Actuator Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs SBE (Synthetic Backdrop Enterprise) is a newly formed company with a staff of 20 that caters to the facilities and individuals craving a retro design of synthetic behavior for their workplace/home. To counter the advancement of IPC rights across their stations, a branch of Nanotrasen executives invested on SBE stock and other companies' to counter the movement. With the moderate success of their first major release of a station-bound AI, SBE has finally released their second line of space-working robots. These IPC units operate with big processing chips yet are equipped with the most basic of voices, speech pattern, and speech structure to minimize distractions to and from other crewmembers. By not having to develop personalities or realistic voices, SBE saved money and time to focus on learning modules and basic departmental functions for Nanotrasen facilities. Station Actuators are available for all departments with only one model per station per shift during the first weeks of their debut. Prior to boarding a station, a SBE representative stationed at Central Command loads Station Actuators with the data acquired from all the previous shifts of that module and assigns the unit the first letter of the department they are to occupy. What do you like about this character? I like how it would be just a 'thing' in the background doing its job. This will hopefully add to the immersion of other players as I would try to make interacting with this IPC as dull as using a console. However, if allowed, I also would like to do some minor shenanigans when ion storms happen (which we don't seem to get nearly as often lately?). Here is an example of the humor that would ensue if someone tried to actively annoy the IPC: How would you rate your role-playing ability? 8. As often as I can remember to, I like limiting my characters with things such as only using handguns as detective, using plain glass instead of reinforced and atmos tech, or taking my gun out as Head of Security as the very last resort. All for giving flavor to the characters or to make confrontations more dramatic. To me, conflict is the most important thing in the game, which is why I sometimes will bend the behavior of my characters and OOCly encourage an antag to somehow escape if they have been stopped. Some people can be bothered by this because it's not realistic, but anything to keep the antags active. I'd give myself a 9 if I wrote more emotes. Notes: I'd like to state that given the opportunity to play this character, I plan on playing any department I feel like working on or learning while obviously limiting the knowledge of the IPC to that department and occupation. I am a strong advocate of being able to do only what your specific job is as shown in this post made some time ago, which position I still hold: https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=2606&p=26096#p26096 This would mean I wouldn't chase antagonists when playing Engineering, not even avenge another character who was just murdered next to me, even though I really like them OOCly, because I am playing a machine. I wouldn't fix a broken grille as Security, and so on. The IPC would be programmed only with the knowledge of their occupation that shift. If you have any more questions regarding this, please ask. Muncorn
I quite like this idea, but a few points I could think of to improve on after a quick think on it. 1: From the looks of it, you seem to plan on having multiple IPC's for each role (If you don't, do note you cannot hop from job to job without some serious explanation) then make sure you have multiple identifications for these IPC'S, such as a common naming algorithm (SA-1 for example). This would make sure confusion for admins and players alike is avoided. 2: Some more backstory would be for the best. Perhaps explain the company SBE a little more, or even extrapolate on how SA would work and function socially and mechanically. 3: Some fleshing out of your other answers would be for the best as well, as they're quite lackluster. Look at some previous IPC apps if you want some pointers, my own app from a while ago shows something very akin to what you're planning: https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=7177 4: Include your Byond Key please, you seem to have missed it out. CakeIsOssim
I'm inclined to agree that more backstory will be necessary. I understand this application has been sitting for a while, and that's partly my fault. I also understand that this particular character is meant to be pretty distant, but I just don't feel satisfied with the amount of information provided about them and where they come from. I will be home all day today, so if you're able to reply in that time frame, I will be looking forward to it. Link to comment
keinto
Added more backstory as well as used Muncorn's name designation suggestion. I also changed the application from industrial to baseline after I found out the sprites ingame look different. Link to comment
CakeIsOssim
Looks a lot better. Application accepted. Link to comment
