Ornias
BYOND Key: Ornias Character Names: Astor Noton, Joie Desai, Pining For The Lost Days, Luka Brala, Mitchell Guess Species you are applying to play: IPC What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt):N/A Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: Much like Diona or Varuca, they give a lot more room to act audaciously. Not in a way that would break immersion or be obstructive to others enjoyment, but the ability to play something abnormal and yet entertaining. I really enjoy playing Diona, but I feel like I've got to be in a certain mindset to be able to enjoy them fully. They're a lot more laid back, and I want to see a more "fast-paced" (for lack of a better word) race which can still be entertaining. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Kind of a big question. IPC's have a lot of freedom, but are restricted in the sense that they're still property designed with a purpose - maybe not an express purpose, but they were made to assist. I wish I could write more on this, but I can't really think of how to expand - they're different. Character Name: POLYPHEMUS - ALQ Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs POLYPHEMUS - ALQ a recently built industrial shell designed by IPC design company SSK Design Corp on Satet. Originally designed with the express purpose of transporting materials to and from storehouses for companies, but failed rudimentary testing on account of it's navigation systems preventing it from properly memorizing it's environment and paths it was supposed to take. Instead of being immediately scrapped, however, it was sold at a cheaper price to NanoTrasen for use however they saw fit. The papers were signed, and POLYPHEMUS - ALQ was put to work. Originally, it was decided that they would be used in security forces, but due to their lack of navigational ability, was unable to even approach crime scenes half the time. As such, it was put into a job that would require no navigational ability whatsoever- bartending. It was uploaded with a variety of common drinks, taking up a portion of memory storage, and put to work aboard the NSS Exodus. What do you like about this character? I love industrial shells. Way better than those filthy fucking synth-skins. And I really like the idea of playing an incredibly limited character which gets entirely lost if outside of it's singular purpose. How would you rate your role-playing ability? Notes: I'm sorry if this feels a bit short. I just didn't want to play a big character with a long backstory - it's a re-purposed machine and that's it. Fire and Glory
Idly wondering about one or two things that probably aren't important. Does it know how to use various weapons and does it remember the basics of CQC? Can it reliably get from arrivals/cryo to the bar, and if so, how does it do that if it has difficulty going to other places? Link to comment

Fire and Glory
I am moderately serious about the CQC thing though, will we be seeing this robot wrestling people to the ground and dislocating limbs and exploit its metal robot capabilities to fight antagonists with 'muh security training'? My bad for not wording it correctly. That was what was originally planned for, but they realised the drawbacks on the first day of field-testing. It was stripped of all security programming (bar the very fundamentals such as corporate regulations so that it can obey them). It will have no training except for bartending and lifting crates and getting lost. Link to comment

No. It will ask directions continually. Every round? You may find yourself getting particularly tired of that, especially in the occasions that nobody responds. Might want to alter the specifics of that particular issue. Link to comment

SleepyWolf
Is the personality just going to be a basic robotic personality, or will it have something to it? How does the bot react to hate messages, or even attacks, if at all? Was it around during the Sol occupation, and if so how did it survive? Will it make friends, or simply have face recognition software to greet people that it knows? Does the bot have ambitions, or goals, or does it simply do its job? Fuck????? Link to comment
Ornias
Is the personality just going to be a basic robotic personality, or will it have something to it? The plan is for a pretty mundane personality, considering that it's an Industrial IPC which makes it, by design, less "human". Loaded with a supply of bartending knowledge, a brief understanding of recent events, hobbies, and history, and understanding the basics of how a conversation works, but not much else. How does the bot react to hate messages, or even attacks, if at all? Hate Messages: "I am sorry. Please tell me how I can improve so that I may submit this information back for later product tests. Would you like a drink?" Attacks: "I am sorry. Please cease within the next thirty seconds or I shall be forced to file a: Security Complaint." Was it around during the Sol occupation, and if so how did it survive? Negatory, it was built and put into practice very recently. Will it make friends, or simply have face recognition software to greet people that it knows? Definitely more the latter, but it will be able to identify who associates with it frequently and remember basic information about them. I'm definitely going for a less human and more "machine with a twinge of feelings and sentience". Does the bot have ambitions, or goals, or does it simply do its job? The latter again. It's not complex enough to form long-term goals or values, let alone work out a coherent way to follow through with them. Fuck????? Only if accepted thank you Link to comment
CakeIsOssim
So because this is an IPC application, and not solely for the industrial subtype, I'm inclined to ask you to provide more information on the backstory. I would even go insofar as to use a different character completely, one you don't even intend to play if you don't want to, and use that as your example. I am not opposed to a robotic industrial - I do like the character idea. However, I am dissatisfied with the amount of data present. If you were to either edit in more information that would reflect your knowledge of a synthetic's place in the world, or the company that built them, I think that would suffice. Link to comment
Ornias
Yeah babe, I understand. Behold, Placeholder Character #491 (Probably to be used at some point because I like the idea). Character Name: Film D'art Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs: Film D'art was a shell IPC produced on March 22nd 2456 by a relatively large Sol III manufacturing firm off the coast of the Carribean Commonwealth. Designed as a stunt double to work in a B-class action film directed by Chorus Brothers Ltd., Film D'art's original purpose in "life" was to participate in these movies until it was so broken that it couldn't be put back together. Which it avoided for roughly two years, until Chrous Brothers Ltd. was put out of business through poor business choices and generally poor sales. After the company went out of business, it was originally planned that D'art would be sold to the highest bidder, and was shut down for transfer purposes, but somehow it was forgotten about amongst the rest of the film props, and ended up being almost literally swept under the rug in a storage warehouse. This, as it was, would turn out to be quite lucky, as it resulted in it the robot being able to narrowly avoid the negative fallout of the Sol Invasion on the Republic of Biesel. Earlier this year, the machine was transported as part of a bulk part material transferal to Kasri, where it was found and powered on. Believing that this was a new "chance at life", and that some greater power had made this happen for a reason, it requested to work for it's new owners, but instead was sold to NanoTrasen as a working-class synthetic, which is technically not untrue. After minor repairs and reprocessing, it was put to work on the NSS Exodus utilizing all of it's action-packed skillset - to be a paramedic. Told that it would be going on exciting and thrilling journeys to save human life, and then placed about some research station slapdash in the middle of nowhere, it struggles to understand the difference between its current job and its previous job, still having the "entertainer" mindset when it comes to saving lives. It does have "combat knowledge" and overwhelming self-confidence, but entirely for showmanship - despite putting on a very good show, it would be practically useless in any real combat. It would look damn cool for the six seconds before it was shot to kingdom come though. Goal-wise, the machine wants to one day return to it's job of playing as a stunt-double, wishing to work its way out of servitude and get on the big screen. But this isn't happening any time soon. What do you like about this character? It makes a lot of sense to have a synthetic stunt double, especially one which is able to replicate human emotions. This character would have a lot of reason to exist, has a very good and well thought out name, and is still suitably robotic for my tastes. I hope that fits your tastes. Ily all. Much love. Ornias.
