cyanlaser121 Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 BYOND Key: cyanlaser121 Total Ban Length: Permanent Banning staff member's Key: alberyk Reason of Ban: Someone with my IP address (mrderpy15) was banned in October 2016 for "Killing himself and logging when being contacted by the staff." Reason for Appeal: I have literally never played this game before. I have no idea who this person is, and I'm very frustrated that I can't play this game with my friends because of someone else's incompetence. I was looking forward to playing this game. I don't want to force my friends to play on a different server.
Skull132 Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 I have literally never played this game before. Okay, umm, why are my logs showing that this happened on 25MAR2017 then? [14:34:21] bNF-cVdQ MISC: Mirrored ban #5082 for player cyanlaser121 from YOUR-CONNECTION-INFO-HERE. This is the cherry atop all of these other mirrors, btw: (A mirror being a ban bypass attempt that we've automatically identified and blocked.) 2016-10-06 - mrderpy15 2016-12-06 - mrderpy15 2016-12-16 - mrderpy15 2017-03-23 - mrderpy15 2017-03-25 - cyanlaser121 2017-04-15 - gangelwaefre 2017-05-04 - mrderpy15 2017-05-26 - cyanlaser121
cyanlaser121 Posted May 26, 2017 Author Posted May 26, 2017 March 25th was my first attempt to connect to the server. It had already stated at that point that I had been banned, but I was too frustrated at the time to do anything about it. (And concerned, for that matter. It is frightening to start a game for the first time, only to discover that you have already been banned.) I am also lazy, and I had a feeling that getting unbanned would be an involved process that I simply did not feel like dealing with at the time. Here are a few ideas off the top of my head of what may have caused this situation to occur: 1.) IP addresses can be dynamically assigned by the ISP, and they DO NOT check whether or not they have been used before. 2.) IP addresses can be spoofed. 3.) You could be banning an IP range, which would mean that if my IP address is similar enough to that of the perpetrator, I would also be banned. That being said, I have no idea how to prove to you with one hundred percent certainty that I am not that person. If it works the way I think it does, you could unban just this account (cyanlaser121), and one of two things could happen: 1.) I demonstrate appropriate behavior, and the perpetrator is still banned because they do not have access to this account. Problem solved. 2.) I do not demonstrate appropriate behavior, and you simply ban me again. Problem solved. I understand that this would take a degree of trust, and I am sure that Nevermore44 and Quinndolyn (If I am getting her Byond name correct) can vouch for my innocence. However, if you are unwilling to give me a chance, I could understand that too.

Your IP that time was unique, but you were paired up with the ban according to another set of fingerprints. Which, while can be altered, are quite hard to force a conflict out of. (Only know of 2 cases in my 4 years of dealing with these shenanigans.) I'll flag Alberyk over, see what he wants to do, as the ban is his.
Alberyk Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 Even with what skull said, I will give you the benefit of doubt and unban, but any similar behavior will be surely punished in similar manner. Reply if you can log or not, please.
cyanlaser121 Posted May 27, 2017 Author Posted May 27, 2017 Thank you, Alberyk, for being reasonable. I am still unable to log, however.
