moltenkore Posted August 7, 2017 Posted August 7, 2017 Server Moderator Application Basic Information Byond Account: Moltenkore Character Name(s): Too many to list, I think I have 23 in total. Most recently played would be Akela Ha’kim, Kariff Saif’rr, Malika Rajul, Khalid Ar’baq, Spring and Kirel. AI Name(s): Xenos X4 and Centros. Preferred means of contact: Discord would be fine. I am under Aurora as ‘Kore’ PM me on that or forum PM me. Age: 24 Timezone: BST (UK) When are you on Aurora?: Tough question, my answer would probably be ‘a lot’. I am on most days that I have time which can vary from zero to six hours. Experience How long have you played SS13?: As long as I have been playing on Aurora. (See below) How long have you played on Aurora: 3 years~ Give or take some months. How much do you know about SS13 (Baystation build) game mechanics?: I have in-depth knowledge of Engineering, Medical, Civilian and 60% of science. The only roles I have never played are bartender and xenobiologist. Do you have any experience moderating for an SS13 server?: Not SS13 specifically but I have been an admin of another non-ss13 gaming community since 2012. Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?: I have never been banned as far as I know. Personality Why do you play SS13?: I enjoy leaving the tires of real life and escaping to a virtual place where I can roleplay a character and not have to think about life for a few hours. It is a good escape. Why do you play on Aurora?: Aurora is the first SS13 server I have ever played on and my notes probably reflect that. I have made a few friends on Aurora and I know that there’s always a place for me to have some fun. What do moderators do?: Moderate. They stop the shitters from shitting and ban the grifters. But in all seriousness, a moderator is there to function as mediation if an issue arises as well as solve problems with characters and players. What does it mean to be a moderator for our server?: Lots of log spam on busy rounds but perhaps satisfaction in helping to shape a better community. Upholding the rules and bwoinking the evil-dooers. Why do you want to be a moderator?: I have been told by various people over the years that I would make a good moderator. I wish to take them up on it and see for myself if that is true. I also feel as if I have some good to add to the community. What qualities do you possess that would make you a good moderator?: Patience: I am a patient person and I tend to see things from multiple angles and perspectives. I always try to have as much information as possible about a situation before expressing my opinion and try to treat others as I would like treated myself. How well do you handle stress, anger, or insults?: I am not quick to anger and usually have a lot of patience and understanding with people. My stress tolerance on occasion can be a little low however I do not lash out and I will take a break if I need it. Anything Else You Want to Add: Although I’ve had a bit of a rocky start into learning heavy role-play, I believe I have come a long way in the three years I have played. Everyone has their snowflake days and I believe mine are quite far in the past. My characters currently are quite well balanced (except for a certain old brown engineering Tajaran ). I could go on more however I believe the staff know of my traits and hopefully I’m viewed as good enough in their books.
Alberyk Posted August 21, 2017 Posted August 21, 2017 Moltenkore's interview: Alberyk - Hoje às 17:27 Alright, I will ask some questions. In your own words; what is the goal of the aurora server? What do you think we are looking to provide with the server? Kore - Hoje às 17:32 The goal of Aurora is to supply a heavy roleplay environment for its players, set in its own lore. A place where people can come and play a character of their own creation. Along with that comes the rules and lore requirments of said enviroment too. Alberyk - Hoje às 17:32 With what you said; what is heavy roleplay? And what is considered roleplay in general? Kore - Hoje às 17:38 Heavy roleplay is about knowing your chararacters limitations and trying to act in a realistic manner to given situations. What seperates heavy roleplay from say medium or low roleplay is usually the amount of detail in the character's actions and the realism involved. E.g, fear RP etc. Roleplay in general is taking yourself out of your own shoes and placing yourself inside a character which strives for different thoughts and feelings from your own. Alberyk - Hoje às 17:39 With what you said; "trying to act in a realistic manner to given situations", do you think there is a difference between realistically and believable, and which one should be enforced if so? Kore - Hoje às 17:42 There usually has to be some sort of balance however, believability will take the reigns more than realism and still be effective roleplay. For example, a wizard using magic isn't very realistic but it still can be believable.(editado) Alberyk - Hoje às 17:45 So, do you believe that things being believable in their universe is more important then them being closer to reality? As in, in relation to characters and the game itself? Kore - Hoje às 17:50 I believe a balance should be struck but believability can be more beneficial than realism in some situations. As long as it doesn't go overboard and start to effect roleplay, it can be tilted somewhat away from realism. Alberyk - Hoje às 17:51 Going from the premise we are supposed to have believable characters; what are your thoughts on a rule, either written or unwritten, that a character should not be doing things that could potentially get them fired? Kore - Hoje às 17:56 It depends on the action that is suggested, would the character really want to risk their future for something that could be deemed silly in the short term. For example, a cargo technician with a drug addiction, would they go and smash in chemistry's window just for a hook up or would they keep their addiction hidden and steal a bottle of pills later. It all depends on OOC round impact. A rule like that could restrict people's creativity but on the flip side, people would have to be OOCly trusted without it. Alberyk - Hoje às 17:57 So, would you allow self-antagonist action if it fits within the framework of the character? Kore - Hoje às 17:59 Yes however, there would still need to be some limits. A non-antag person shooting the captain over a bottle of brandy because they were not getting served at the bar for example wouldn't be acceptable. Alberyk - Hoje às 18:01 Alright, I see. Moving into other subject; What are your thoughts on the server and community present state? Kore - Hoje às 18:07 I've been around for a while on Aurora and I've seen changes for better and worse. With a big community there's always going to be some disagreements but at the end of the day, I think the staff always have the server's best interests in mind. After all, I don't think the server would have lasted this long if they didn't. Alberyk - Hoje às 18:08 What do you think is the most urgent issue, community management/rules wise, that ought to be looked at? Kore - Hoje às 18:12 I would say the biggest issue is the massive influx of new players than can crop on a roundly basis. It is the nature of a public server to have new people come on but at times, if they have not roleplayed before they can be quite disruptive to a round in progress or ruin the enviroment for other people playing. It is however not an easy issue to deal with. Without community growth, the server would most likely go downhill pretty quickly.(editado) Alberyk - Hoje às 18:17 One last question; if you could change anythinf in the staff/server/how things are done, what would it be? Kore - Hoje às 18:21 I would probably change the way in which lore is approved, specifically major changes. Perhaps a voting system could be deployed both on the forum and server to gage the community's response for a few weeks before the lore is set in stone. I've seen examples in the past where a new piece of lore has been added without a lot of player's knowledge that has effected a lot of their characters. Alberyk - Hoje às 18:23 That is all for now, do you mind if I post the interview in your application? Kore - Hoje às 18:24 Okay and sure, go ahead.
