cheap31
BYOND key: cheap31 Character names: Kobe Ironmonger, Larry Atkinson, Eli Caldwell, Leon Farric, P.R.O.D., Maintenance Drone How long have you been playing on Aurora?: About two weeks. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I like to play CMO or HoS on occasion and would really like to try out being an IAA, honestly. Usually, HoS is pretty taken care of, but oftentimes I never see a CMO and don't even get me started on IA. I've been playing SS13 for quite a long time and believe that skillwise, I can handle most every job and have a great time doing it as well as help others to enjoy the game through fruitful RP. I, also, thoroughly understand our server-side CCIA and Corporate Regulations which would be a great boon in the case of HoS and IAA. Why did you come to Aurora?: I used to play solely on /tg/station for several years, but found my experience lack-luster in the end. It was a constant rush which destroyed any real RP potential, there was little to no character development or continuity. Aurora caught my eye and I wanted to see what you guys meant by 'Heavy-RP'. In the end I was not displeased. I've been roleplaying and writing for over 14 years and enjoy being able to take things slow to develop a story as a community so, Aurora is great for just that. Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: I pore over the guides constantly. They're my daily reading material. So, yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay is acting out and creating a story within a community. Roleplay can be many things including an escape from reality, a mental exercise, or simply something to pass time. For me it's a mental exercise that keeps me from taking naps constantly. All of this is inconsequential to Roleplay's main effect though, which is social exercise and creating a community entertained by coming together to make a cohesive story with themselves as the main characters. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: Getting killed by Revolutionaries. Heads have a huge amount of power that would be unbalancing if more than a few players per game had them. Heads are meant to represent the best in that job which is why they have better equipment than your average greyshit-shirt. They are a focal point to the movement of the game and a competent or incompetent one can make or break a department for the entirety of a shift through careful direction. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: Do your part to make the server look good, the easiest part of the job. Otherwise, you're meant to be a mentor to newer players to give them someone robust to look up to. Don't break the server rules, make good RP happen no matter what character you're playing, and give an experienced opinion on the forums every once in a while. I'm usually pretty bad at that last part, but it's not something I need to have, it's something I can strive to do better at. I want to enjoy the game as much as I can and I strive to help others enjoy it as much as I usually do. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Eli Caldwell Character age: 36 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Eli has been in the business for a long time, starting his education almost 20 years ago at the Biesel Institute of Medical Sciences. He grew up in the Republic of Biesel with his two Sol native parents and older sister. He was an extremely intelligent kid, but a terrible student, failing most of his classes until his late high school years. However once he had taken a single 'easy credit' veterinary class in high-school, he knew he had an excellent set of hands for surgery and a deep want to help more than just animals. After graduation, Eli requested the help of his elder sister whom had become a roboticist with Bishop Cybernetics, for some help getting into a good school. She gladly obliged her little brother and used her sway within their hometown of Mendell City to get Eli into BIMS. After some time and a scholarship obligated internship with a local Bishop Cybernetics clinic, where he met his soon-to-be wife, he graduated with a doctorate in General Surgery and Biomechanical Engineering. For 9 years after that he maintained a residency in the Institute, acting as a specialized and prominent surgeon, and raised his child. After that he was picked up by NanoTrasen to work as a doctor on the NSS Aurora and the rest is still to come. What do you like about this character?: He's an older character with a more fatherly personality which he displays towards his patients. Eli's seen some shit and I like the reactions that other characters give him when he acts non-chalantly about extreme circumstances. He's completely unlike myself and it allows me to immerse myself better in his character and history. I also, like the fact that his background is possibly the most fleshed out compared to my other newer characters. What do you dislike about this character?: I don't like how dedicated he is to his work, as he doesn't have any hobbies. This makes it kind of hard to talk about anything other than his wife, kid, or work. I guess that isn't that bad though, because it adds more to his realistic fatherly persona. He has a well-crafted background I believe, but not much conflict has occurred in his own life which can come to hurt roleplay when trying to relate to other hardcore characters. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: He's got the experience. If he wanted to be CMO, he has the qualifications and could very well make the grade for it in order to support his family and carry his career onwards. His schooling also makes him a perfect candidate as NanoTrasen loves to cherry-pick their medical teams from BIMS. He also has a dual specialty in Cyber-prosthesis which is a rarely seen knowledge in the med department as far as I've seen. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: 9/10 I've been doing this a long time, like I said around 14 years. I've had my share of bad habits and broken them while going through the constant learning process that is roleplaying. I don't make Mary-Sue characters, they are usually very beleivable and don't try to be the 'chosen one'. I like to be average to give other players a role-model from below their character principle. I've also pretty much mastered seperating a non-human character from my human logic, which is oftentimes a feat for the typical roleplayer. Extra notes: I've read through almost all of the lores and really enjoy what I see. I look forward to collaborating with the Aurora team to make this server the best it can be as well as be one of the only IA players. Faris
I think your application is pretty decent, but it suffers due to the lack of feedback and generally how new to the community you are. I haven't personally seen you play but you have played 19 rounds with the characters cited. Perhaps you can tell if you feel any differently about your application or answers with your 2 weeks of gameplay from making this application? Do note you can ask for feedback in OOC or discord as long as it's not excessive. Feedback is important and immensely helps your chances of an approval. I'm going to let this sit for a little longer. Diggey
I mean,I can't rate Cheap based on their roleplaying ability since I don't recall meeting any of their characters in person, but from the way this application is written I have no doubts in their ability to properly play the role, especially do I endorse this because it usually seems like no one staffs that position, when I think on some occasion it might have been of advantage I'm gonna keep an eye out for your characters, but I'm already willing to give a +1 if that's allowed Link to comment
Faris
Application Denied. Attempt to get more activity on the server and in acquiring feedback. While I feel your application is quite good, a Heads of Staff white-list has a certain level of community acceptance required, and the only way to achieve that is through feedback and for people to witness how you do it. Try to ask for interim roles that suitable for your character as well. Link to comment
