What is it?

The Station Command Communication Network, or SCCN for short is a networking program based in Discord, to allow NanoTrasen's Station Command staff to communicate and coordinate, and discuss station policy. These channels are meant for Heads of Staff to build a sense of community within their fields of leadership, and begin developing their own policies/programs enacted in game on a round-by-round basis.

How does it work?

After joining the discord, players are asked to post their main characters name in the Help Desk channel, as well as state their primary role, and any other access in the discord they may need/want. This will be sorted out upon myself or any Maintainer's I appoint noticing said message.

Because discussions with multiple people can be exasperatingly hard to keep on one topic, the necessary infrastructure has been put in place to allow any member of the SCCN to put in a request to move a specific topic to a private and specific conference room, or a voice-chat conference link. Alternatively, the private channels can be reserved in advance, and the subject of the meeting will be announced, and anyone wishing to join will be added by SCCN Maintainers.

For a brief list of what each Head of Staff role is by default subscribed too, please see the spoiler attached below.

Captain - Command, Security
Head of Personnel - Civilian/Supply, Command
Internal Affairs Agent - Command, Security
Head of Security - Security
Chief Medical Officer - Medical
Research Director - Research
Chief Engineer - Engineering

Goals and Purpose the SCCN

Provide Head Whitelistees':

  • A platform to communicate with one another instantly on matters of policy, regulation, etc.
  • A method to synthesize ideas and opinions to provide concentrated statements to formal server structures (Staff teams)
  • A chance to form friendships and encourage camaraderie between supervisors

Provide Non-Whitelistees':

  • A platform to communicate with Heads of Department, and whitelistees about policy, regulation, etc.
  • A chance to partake in discussions that may affect how policies are interpreted/applied ICly by Heads of Staff (as allowed)
  • A support in the goal to apply for a Head Whitelist

Why am I, a non-Whitelistee, interested?

Station policy, regulations and any other sort of programs run by a Head of Staff are everyone's business! As such, we're absolutely welcoming non-Heads to join and have unrestricted access to our channels to discuss these sorts of things with us! It's a great place to build a rapport with whitelisted players if you're looking at an upcoming application, and can serve as a great forum for you to express your frustrations on how Command is doing!

You can join directly to our Help Desk channel to register with this link https://discord.gg/YBy3FFc , once you've joined, you can do one of two things!

A) Register as an active member! We have a forum signature badge and you can stay long-term! You'll be given a rank in the Discord reflective of your character's department and able to ICly have discussions.

B) Register as a General Conference Visitor! You'll be able to stay until GenCon is closed, at which point you can either register or be kicked! GenCon is an OOC channel so you will not be able to ICly interact with people this way! You'll also get the privilege of using our General Conference Participant forum badge for your signature!

What is the General Conference?

The General Conference, or 'GenCon', is a full-group discussion with all SCCN members involved on various large topics. It's done in an OOC format for the sake of being able to express ourselves clearly and properly, and at the end of it, my intention is to post a summary of what has been discussed! The current topic listing is here below, but anything can be discussed as these are only guiding topics, rather than mandatory agenda pieces:

- Proper punishment of hooliganism and misbehaving crew (Brigging vs. Administrative punishment?)

- More communication with Central Command on behalf of crew (Avowals of Responsibility, Loyalty Pledges,Synth Command Recommendation)

- More cooperation with Internal Affairs Agents during the execution of their duties

- Proper education of crew in terms of safety on the asteroid and open-floored areas

- Community Policing focus of Security

- Addressing ATLAS propaganda on board

- Increased attention to the station's financial situation

- Filing incident reports more actively

If any of these interest YOU, or if you want to discuss something else - Please just click the link above!

Just wanna get a couple things out of the way, I hope my requests aren't too unreasonable, do note I do not speak for CCIA or the head admins.

1.) If you and anyone else wants to make this work, then please inform your other group organizers of the #1 they need to follow, and it's to respect boundaries. This is vaguespeak for pretty much, "Don't act like CCIAA, but act like a tight-knit network of heads of staff." Respect those boundaries and the same will be shown in turn.

2.) Be inclusive in your business as humanly possible. This is a broad way of saying, "Don't put group participants on a need-to-know basis unless it relates to drama." Don't shut your own group out, let them in on what your intentions or agendas are for the group as it gains traction.

3.) Your discord may not be officially endorsed by any of the staff groups, but generally speaking may be subject to the same server rules we're supposed to enforce. However, I do think we will allow you or anyone else to moderate the group internally regarding those things, provided you inform one of the staff regarding whoever you had to deal with. So basically if one of the participants in that group decide to tell people what's going on in a current round, we hope you'll contact us ahead of time before you do much else, because IC in OOC and transmitting meta-information are serious offenses. What you do to them after you inform us is 100% your business.

4.) Regarding buzzwords like "endorsement", this thread is already something I shot to the staff to be aware of, read over and give their opinions internally on how we should be handling this. Even though its past iterations may not have worked out, that was due to other unfortunate causes that could've been handled better by multiple involved parties, won't point fingers because it's pointless to blow dust from an old piece of history into another person's face. CCIAA will be made aware of this so they can discuss internally how they want to go about this, as well, and then hopefully a staff-CCIAA discussion will happen (though not necessary), and then we'll discuss this more openly. Alternatively closed-door bureaucracy can be skipped and we can make a discussion mess of the rest of the replies in this thread. Since that's a mess, I'd hope we just go for the whole closed-door discussions instead.

Aaaand, 5.) The topic of staff liasons for this group, assuming it's become 'official', will also be discussed. Obviously, 'liasons' are a sketchy topic but enough bad blood was spilled in the past over it. Accountability and multiple avenues of communication are necessary to piece the whole thing together if everyone wants to make this into a well-oiled machine that just works. We'll cross this bridge when we get to it but it's something to be mindful of later on.

I make absolutely zero promises at this time, but the above five points are generally the gist of what needs to get addressed as elephants in the room before we can do much about whatever else needs done. The ideal situation is that a compromise is made and everybody gets what they want, but this'll be discussed at length between the staff to see how this rolls.

I'll address all of your points as they were listed as clearly as I can.

1. There is no fellow organizers, and I learned from the mistake of over-regulating the precursor group of the ACN - And so when the SCCN was made, the 'Information Office' was removed, it does not maintain a team of anyone aside from myself, and I am only here to do recruitment posts and provide people with access.

2. All members (except GenCon Visitors, who specifically join just to partake in that main talking event) have access to any channel they want, and with my recent revision even non-whitelistees are allowed to join as guests if they are so inclined! The only channel with a restriction is the 'Command' channel, only whitelisted Heads are permitted in there, in case anything private is discussed such as First Contract Protocol. All other channels are free access to anybody that wishes to request them.

3. The rules of the SCCN discord are 100% modeled after Aurora's discord rules, and the intention is (never had to yet) , that anyone that breaks a rule on my discord that is a violation of in-game server rules, will have their comments recorded, deleted and forwarded to relevant Aurora Staff. If they are banned from the server permanently, they will be kicked from the discord.

4. I would be fine being included in a closed-door discussion, as long I am spoken to politely and not down to (this has happened before) about the future of this group, should staff wish to endorse this group or for CCIA to do so - I would be 100% okay with it, and committing to any changes to the discord required for such.

5. In terms of liaisons, unless staff do move towards the avenue of formally supporting the group - I do not intend to have any server staff liasoning/moderating the discord, at any point that is does become 'endorsed', I would be very welcoming to any staff wishing to have a place in it, either as IC liaisons, for CCIA, or OOC moderators for staff.

Re: #4 & #5, we'll discuss those two points at length internally before we have a talk about what needs settled, between yourself, the admin-CCIA liason, and another CCIAA representative. I will see about including you into the discussions depending on when the discussions can be undertaken. Naturally, since people live in different places since this is the internet, scheduling a talk might be a difficult task but at most we'll try to get it settled before the end of next week. I'll try to be present to mediate and put discussions back on the right track if it gets a bit heated.

Glad to hear you've got 1-3 settled.
