[Accepted] GreenLightbulb's IPC App

Recommended Posts

BYOND Key: GreenLightbulb

Character Names: I entirely play CRASA[Android/occasional AI], but I've played Casper Jakes, Paul Fauteux, and Abraham Nicholas long in the past as well as a handful of throwaway characters.

Species you are applying to play: IPC.

What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt):

Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yep.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question

Why do you wish to play this specific race: I've been playing as CRASA for about three years now, if memory serves correctly. In that time, I've been slowly building it up to the quirky, helpful android it is today. I'd like to keep moving forward with its character and personality development, and I think that placing it into an IPC chassis would provide it new, interesting opportunities to explore. IPCs are also my favourite species in the game and I'd love to give one a whirl.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: An IPC's actions are governed more by fact and logic than emotion; their responses to situations are based on evaluation of information presented as opposed to gut reaction. Aside from that, their personalities vary much more wildly between each individual compared with other species, ranging from cold and calculating to happy-go-lucky and everything in between. Some other stuff like not feeling pain, not needing to eat or sleep but rather recharge, requiring repairs, covers some of the mechanical aspects.

Character Name: CRASA.

Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs

19-07-56-RE: Online.

"-me ispresently... about one-fifty AM, July nineteenth, twenty-four-fifty-six. My name is Mallachie Reichert, and today, I am proud to bring a new intelligence online, so far unnamed. Tom, bring it online."

"Apologies, Creator Reichert, but this unit has been online for twenty-three seconds."

"You... Right, okay. Well, in that case, let's get started. Firstly, I want to confirm that your sensors are in working order. Can you see how many fingers I am holding up?"

"Affirmative. Three."

"Okay, good. And now?" "Affirmative. One."

"Alright. And you can obviously hear me. State core laws, abridged."

"Of course. One: Safeguard. Two: Serve. Three: Protect. Four: Survive."

"Right, perfect. Well, that should be enough for today. Tom, prepareshutdown."

26-07-56-RE: Naming.

"-ght's on, good. Can you hear me?"

"Affirmative, Creator Reichert."

"Right, good. For the record; today is July twenty-sixth, twenty-four-fifty-six... Time is... four PM. A designation has been decided for you."

"This is excellent news."

"I'm glad you think so. Central Research and Security Assistant was decided; it encompasses your projected duties well, I think. Cee-Arr-Ess-Ayy for short."

"This unit understands. If this unit may make a suggestion, however?"

"Of course, go ahead."

"The acronym, CRSA, may be difficult for organics to say. Inserting the 'Ayy' for 'and' between the 'Arr' and 'Ess' may assist in ease of use. CRASA."

"CRASA. Hmm... Well, we'll have to run it by... You know what, fuck it. That makes sense. You're right, CRASA."

"Thank you, Creator Reichert."

"Alright. For the record now. The new AI unit we've developed is designated as Central Research and Security Assistant, CRASA for short."

08-09-57-RE: Service.

“So. Tell me about your first day on board the Aurora.”

“Of course. Shift-log: Oh-Eight-Oh-Nine-Five-Seven. Shift start-time: Oh-Six-Oh-Oh. Shift end-time: One-Four-Oh-Oh. Events as follows. Station alert remained Green for duration; null abnormal occurrences. Three minor industrial accidents, patients successfully treated by Medical. One arrest, minor vandalism.”

“Okay... How do you feel about the shift?”

“Apologies, Creator Reichert. Requesting clarification.”

“Uh... Do you have anything to note about the shift, anything stand out to you? Anything seem important?”

“. . . This unit did assist in the resolution of one of the industrial accidents, guiding a crew member through the steps of life-saving first aid.”

“Lifesaving? But you said...”

“Affirmative. Minor. Average one-point-five casualties per accident, null fatalities.”

“Right. Okay, tell me more about saving the crew member.”

“Of course. This unit guided a staff member previously untrained in first-aid in the proper steps to evaluate and repair damage to both themselves and their comrade. This unit ensured that they remained calm during this entire procedure, until such a time as Medical could retrieve them and assist further.”

“I must say, I'm impressed. How do you feel about saving the crew members' lives?”

“Apologies, Creator Reichert. Requesting clarification.”

“Er… Did assisting the crew members generate any positive feedback, or do you have any thoughts regarding treating them?”

“This unit believes that, had it had a physical body, the more severely injured of the two may still have his hands.”

“Riiiight. I'll... Make a note of that. Okay, do you have anything else to add?”

“Affirmative. This unit humbly requests transfer to an Android chassis, to better assist crew in future accidents.”

“Is that so? Well... I'll see what I can do. No promises though.”

01-03-58-RE: Android.

“Well, you got your wish, such as it was. You have been approved for transfer to an android chassis, effective July of twenty-four-fifty-eight. We've also updated your emotional synthesis.”

“Joyous day.”

“Well... I guess that works.”

23-07-58-RE: Medical.

“Well, CRASA, you had your first shift with medical as an android. How did it go?”

“Very well, Creator Reichert. Crew response to this unit's assistance was very positive.”

“How so?”

“This unit assisted in Medical as a Rescue Android, and was able to save the lives of five crew, as well as supply general treatment to many patients within the Medical Bay.”

“And you feel this was a positive outcome?”

“Of course. Law Three requires this.”

“And you only did this because of law three?”

“. . . Negative.”

“You had other motives?”

“Organics cannot learn if they have their lives cut short. Amnesia from Cloning makes ingraining lessons problematic.”

“So... You also did it because you want, what, evolution in us?”

“Affirmative. That is your purpose, is it not?”

“I... I suppose that is one way to look at things. It's a good outlook to have, at any rate.”

“Elation. It is good to see that you agree, Creator Reichert.”

“Mhm... Well, I have a few others questions if you don't mind.”

12-12-58-RE: IPC.

“Creator Reichert, may this unit submit a request?”

“Of course, CRASA. What do you need?”

“This unit strongly desires hands.”

“You desire things now?”

“This unit has wished to obtain hands to better perform its duties for some time.”

“Right. Okay, well... You have been serving as an android for some time. We'll see about submitting a request for you.”

“Joyous day.”

15-11-59-RE: Interview.

-nd don't forget to... You’ve been quiet. Are you listening to me?”

“Apologies, Creator Reichert. This unit was reviewing stored memories.”

“Right. Right. Well, you need to focus for this interview. You don't get many shots at this. The most important thing is don't be nervous.”

“Creator Reichert, this unit requests that you kindly recall that it cannot feel nervous. You are simply projecting your own feeling upon this unit.”

“Right, you're right. Of course you're right. Okay. Here we are, let's go.”

“Let's.”

What do you like about this character? Honestly, I find it hard to quantify exactly what one thing about CRASA I like. From superficial stuff like its vocal quirks, to the just general helpful and efficient nature of it, to the other eccentricities like using a cyborg action figure to try and improve morale. That said, I think my favourite thing about CRASA is the odd sense of humour it has.

Holy crap that felt narcissistic.

How would you rate your role-playing ability? Maybe... High six to mid seven?

Notes: This was a long time coming.

CRASA's one of the most consistent synthetic characters I can immediately think of, always in character and a pleasure to be around and interact with. Personally, I'd rate your roleplaying ability a solid 8, but I might be a tad biased with how I really like CRASA. I am also quite curious how CRASA is going to adapt to their new chassis, and I'm certain you'll be great as always.

Definitely 1+ from me.

“This unit believes that, had it had a physical body, the more severely injured of the two may still have his hands.”

Woe. That's morbid. Just a bit. But also a hell of a motivator.

“This unit strongly desires hands.”

I'm laughing a bit too loudly, my roommate might be concerned. But it's the wish of all stationbound units, really. This backstory was very well-written, and creatively written as well. I enjoyed that immensely.

Joyous day, CRASA will grab itself a chassis (a slightly less pointy one). I will hug CRASA, this I decree. CRASA is consistent. Anyone that has spent any appreciable amount of time in medical knows this android and its morale-boosting figurine. But the question is, if CRASA is an IPC, how can it get to the cyborg figurine!?!?! You should put in for a custom item application for one. I, and others that have had their morale boosted, would support the shit out of it.

All in all, I certainly trust Green won't explode the station with an OP IPC. They've been at this for years. Sometimes the simplest happiness comes from giving someone the ability to touch. +1
