Candelaio
BYOND Key: McKinney Character Names: Andie Metzger, Carl Anderson, Fibo, Mr. Flibble Species you are applying to play: (Shell) IPC What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Exempt Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yep! Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: Well, the position of the IPC on station is quite peculiar and it can lead to some great RP both antagonistically (Though, not usually my cup o' tea) and canonically. It can make it easy to choose gimmicks for traitoring, like an IPC wanting to be free and trying to inspire others to be free on a rev round. Or just by pure virtue of having your character conscious of the fact that they are, in fact owned by either NT or owned privately by someone or some firm. Even if they bought their own independence however, they would also have that be a part of them, they would know through their hard work they managed to become free. There is just a different kind of dynamic to IPCs as compared to lets say, Humans. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Well, playing a human is really easy, we are human after all (I hope I am not found out for being an alium). In all seriousness however, a shell IPC is supposed to be as 'human' as they can be, hence the synthskin and and the human appearances. But they will still be plagued by their own little quirks that humans are not. For example, a more industrial or baseline IPC I would still use 'this unit...' as opposed to 'I....', all of that depending on the IPC of course but the point is at the time they could not be so 'human'. Character Name: Roscoe Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Roscoe was created by a group of robotics students from Solis Cognito University with one original goal in mind: try to make an IPC band more popular and better than the famous 'ClockWorks' this goal served two purposes; one would be to prove Solis Cognito has the most gifted roboticists who are capable of a great deal more than others. Two, if successful, was to spread some pro-ATLAS sentiments most of the robotics team had held. This project led to Roscoe, whose working name was 'Swing bot' (Posibrain designation SWB-001) and [The Project] was discontinued after his failure to produce positive results. The students were fixated and intended on making Swing bot resemble, as closely as possible, a 1930/40's (swing era) american, hence his working name for the project. As such, Swing bot's personality was carefully crafted to fit this narrative, with the students all agreeing this would yield a quirky and musically enamored personality, both being what they desired for his purposes. This lead to him using antiquated slang from the era along with holding some antiquated ideas from the era, such as, believing the prohibition is still in effect. The students, at this point, with the help of some robotics alumni from Solis Cognito began making what was now Roscoe act and behave as closely as possible to a human. This had varying degrees of success as they had given him special emotion emulators which the alumnus tailored to fit alongside his personality, creating a few extra quirks and limiting his ability to express some complex emotions. To be paired with his era appropriate personality and emotions, they created a shell frame that possessed typical male looks of the time, some of which are uncommon now. Roscoe's first test was to try to play the instrument which he felt would be easiest for him to play, he chose the trumpet. This, of course, did not work our as he was unable to play it properly due to his lack of sufficient lung capacity, this being the first failure in the project. Despite their best intentions and their best attempts, Roscoe did not have a passion for playing music, he simply had a passion for listening to music and dancing to music. The chief mistake in this case was made when a student exposed him to the music from the era he was modeled after, the idea being he would embrace this music and strive to make more like. This backfired as he was more focused on listening to it and dancing to it than he was actually playing it. As the students began worrying more and more about the projects failure, they decided to cut their losses and sold Roscoe to a Merchant that had come on station. Roscoe, under the ownership of this merchant, was shown how to bartend, cook and even picked up a thing or two about inventory management from the merchant. At this point, Roscoe has traded hands between a few different merchants and is now aboard another ship on his way to a research station known as the 'NSS Aurora'. What do you like about this character? So, I, personally love US history from the 1910's-1960's there is just so much that happened in that time period, and its not just about the wars (like so many of my class mates loved) but I also loved how the US changed during these time periods. I love the feel and (Much as I have grown to dislike the word due to my friend's constant use of it) aesthetic of him. I also like the idea that since he was made at Solis Cognito he would not have met very many non humans. Actually, remarkably few so it would be interesting for him to meet the various races aboard the Aurora. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I wouldn't rate it on a scale as last time I felt silly doing so; As such, I will just say I feel as if I am rather good at roleplaying, I have had many characters over many genres and many different universes but there is always more to learn about role playing. Notes: Now, you may have noticed I left the backstory off at a weird part there at the end of 'heading to the Aurora aboard a merchant vessel'. If the Whitelist is accepted I seek to have Roscoe sold by a merchant one shift to generate more RP. I do have backup plans if that is not okay of course, but it is just kind of wishful thinking. alexpkeaton
Strong +1 here. The character of Andie is fantastic. Easily on my list of favorite players to RP with either of my Jack's (Tanner or Edwardson). I definitely support providing new ways for McKinney/Candelaio to RP. I've not been on the server for a couple of weeks but if I'm ever aboard as a QM Jack Edwardson if Roscoe is greenlit, I would be happy to help facilitate a purchase through the cargo account. The character is interesting and the time period choice is fantastic. I am curious how Roscoe will portray ATLAS considering his human contact and programming has been pretty much a group of ATLAS supporters, yet the time period involved America fighting a war against the original space nazis. Does not compute? This is not at all meant to be a negative but rather an invitation, I notice you have just a few forum posts and would love to see your take in the community here on the forum since you are so active on the server. Mwahahahaha
+1 I personally like the sort of 'storyline' (if you can say that there's one determinate outcome for everything) that is going on here and I have no doubts about their ability to carry out an enjoyable RP experience for others with this proposed character. They've already made a lot of rounds in research very fun with their research director Carl Anderson — who, in my eyes, has already demonstrated a decent understanding on synthetic mechanics in terms of incorporated roleplay — and I sincerely believe that they have something going with this particular IPC character. I also like the usage of Solis Cognito University and the respective information currently on that article. Now, again, and forgive me if this sounds a bit lazy, but I've seen nothing but effort when they're roleplaying as their aforementioned characters. There is a lot of thought put into it, and I personally feel that it shows. Link to comment
Resilynn
+1. This should have been accepted about 5 minutes before it was even posted. McKinney has never failed to not only make RP interesting on a one on one basis, but also to expand the game through lore and mechanics in a way that really fleshes it out for everyone (I'm mostly referring to his work as RD here. As much as I love to RP with Andie, I LOVE what Carl does for science). I have no doubts that he'd excel at playing a nuanced, fun IPC character. Which I am totally bidding in the auction for. TheSleepyCatmom
+1. Every interaction I've had with McKinney has been wonderful. Their one on one RP is really really fun (specifically meaning their pAI). I also have had few, yet good interactions with both his RD and Andie. I know this isn't very detailed, but I'm never good at writing this stuff. Link to comment
Guest Marlon Phoenix
Hello! I am sorry for the delay. You have a unique character for an IPC and I like the concept. The only niggling issue is that I want to make sure to say it would probably not be the best idea to harrass people for drinking - Roscoe would be aware of NT regulations for the station. Otherwise, application accepted! Link to comment
