While I appreciate your vote of confidence in the quality of the sprite, it bears mentioning that the Fallout eyebot is, itself, based on the design of the satellite Sputnik. So it's really not referencing a science fiction series any more than it is referencing actual iconic human history. It's a circle with some antennas. In a universe where things can be made to float, there's no other design that's more intuitive or suitable.

Yes, but, think about it. When someone looks at this sprite, they don't think, "Oh, this looks a bit like the Sputnik satellite." They think, "Oh, this is an Enclave Duraframe Eyebot from Fallout." Eyebots, as opposed to many other pop culture references that exist in the game, are not just a nod to Fallout, such as the Fireball Whiskey is a subtle nod to Fallout/Wasteland through its flavortext. Eyebots themselves are identifiable and symbolic to Fallout.

Is it my fault if someone can't treat a robot like a robot instead of like a meme, just because it appeared somewhere else? Some people are waging this war on referential content, but it's completely ignorant of the question of whether or not that content is valuable. Yes, it was in Fallout; why should we leave it there if the design is solid?

I'm not saying it's your fault at all, I'm just saying what, in all likelihood, the common perception will be as I described.

I would like to hear an argument on the merits of the actual merit of this visual concept being brought into practice, yes, I would.

I'd be careful how you say that, as it's used in justification for plagiarism. See "Limbo of the Lost" as an extreme example of this query being put into practice.

I think it's easier to explain it this way: Whereas the Tau drone draws heavy inspiration, people are against this(?) because it is literally just an eyebot. The drone sprite has enough differences from any quick search of 'tau drone' to make it stand alone. This does not.

Is that correct, guys?
