Eliot Clef
A lot of the time I've been watching the game, or playing it, one of security's biggest issues with handling issues is simply getting into places. Departments on Aurora also have a somewhat consistent tendency to turtle up and factionalize against security and simply not cooperate with them if they feel like they can do so with impunity, even if there's a significant emergency at hand like nukeops blowing holes in the station and people on the station. This seems especially prevalent in cargo based on my limited and recent observations. I feel like this problem could be partially solved with the addition of a Guest Pass Computer (as found in the bridge) in either the Warden or the HoS's office. Maybe regulations would allow it to be used in conjunction with a warrant in green alert, and without paperwork during blue alert or higher. I would personally prefer the Warden's office, and also giving the Warden access to USE the guest pass computer, but I could also understand why people would vastly prefer usage of that particular mechanic to be restricted to whitelisted roles only as well. Either way, it seems to me like logically, the guest pass system is practically made for the Security role, and sees almost no usage that I know of in general. Link to comment
SgtSammac
Guest Pass Consoles require the person putting their ID in to give access to have access to the department they want to give access to. So it won't work like you think it would. In the event it is needed, there is one on the bridge that ALL heads can access. Link to comment

In that case only the HoS office could really benefit from having one. With regards to the bridge guest pass computer, I basically never see it used. I've used it exactly once myself, though that doesn't indicate much since I'm not a whitelisted player. It was while returning the Captain's Spare ID, so I could get out of the bridge again when I was done. Link to comment
ForgottenTraveller
Small issue with this plan. The guest pass terminal can only issue passes with the access of the ID issuing it. The HoS could allow for some slightly wider access options. For the new map considering how big it was I had suggested guest passes for each head office. But for your thought, you would need them at every department and still need some aid from the staff of the area. Link to comment
Serveris
I believe the current baystation map has them in the brig, medical reception, bridge, and in starboard primary hallway. During my time there, having them in these areas worked out very well, despite people being arrested for trespassing for having access to an area that command/security was not aware of. The current bridge design of Aurora took this into account, however. Obviously, the placement of a single console in the bridge was intentional. This was likely to centralize the idea of handing out additional access, and added in with the intentions of command staff being aware that temporary access had been handed out, and that they could easily check the logs on this single terminal to determine who handed out the access. Think of it this way. Anyone can take cash from magic ATMs and give it to someone, but they have to sign their name before doing so. So every ATM in the world is destroyed, then a single one is placed in the most secure place in the world. Now, someone even sneezes near this ATM, someone (should) be close enough to notice. If not, that stolen money(in this case, a guest pass with access to an area) is going to pop up later. All law enforcement needs to do is check the activity logs on that ATM, and boom. They're going to see whoever signed their name to give this access. It's much easier to keep track of who gave access to who and for what reason with only one terminal. Link to comment

Here's an alternative idea I just had, which may or may not be exactly as awful and short-sighted as my original idea: What if every department had a security officer post attached to it? A one-man role similar to the Warden, with access to their assigned department. So Science Security, Medbay Security, etc. I don't know how much effort it is to set up new positions like that, though. Link to comment
