My ongoing problem with them is, like I said, shoehorning a someone into doing something that may very well be entirely against their character, which is the complete opposite of what RP is supposed to be—approaching a situation as one’s character. It does have some upsides like driving conflict to prevent surrender, but it also does stupid shit like forcing a skrell captain to demote themselves for yet another “lol demote the aliens” rev round. It’s used to basically say “fuck your character, do this.” If the concerns you have are more narrowly bound to captains who would place themselves over the station, it can always be said that someone like that would never end up in a position like Captain or Head of Security, and then administrative action starts. Frankly, LIs don’t really have the effect you’ve described anyway, as evident by the fact that there are captains who’ve surrendered, exposed the disk, put their own well-being at the top of their mind, and so on without any special attention being paid to it. As far as metagame goes, it's not hard to declare that the implants are expensive and can only be implanted as part of a CR punishment.

Bump to be honest. I changed it to sanity implant instead of mindshield implant, to better outline what I was thinking.

I found when I was looking at these colors that they don't necessarily mess with the detailing. Vaur'skiyet'sca has rather vanilla looking coloration. Standard reds, fairly close to normal Zo'ra coloration. Currently, Athvur'zekt'azi goes darker than her mother, but I think she could stand to go lighter instead. Other than providing some nice color variation for the Zo'ra, it also helps push her VR lore a little more, since it's described as heavenly.
-
For the Zo'ra, there's a queen that sort of revolves around heaven, culture, art etcetera. Her color is very much caramel-like, but I suggest it be changed to much brighter, almost albino-esque version of Zo'ra, which would be a light red or almost pinkish color, and a much lighter, almost sandy brown for the bound. The queen is Ta'Akaix' Athvur'zekt'azi Zo'ra. I suggest the new colors: Unbound - 255 135 135 Bound Warrior- 199 133 101 Bound Worker - 254 128 96

Cryptobiolin allows for a treatment to nullify it as well.

I imagine it would be a check, like 'if unconscious due to nitrogen' or whatever's in anesthesia, generate cryptobiolin.

[Accepted]sdtwbaj skrell whitelist

Can you expand on these differences, and the 'little sibling' concept? What makes Skrell stand out for you? Onto the character, I actually like your concept. I haven't seen this before, so it's nice that something new crops up. This doesn't tell us much about what kind of character Wren'Ishii is. What's her attitude like? Her goals? And so on. I'd like to hear more from you about what kind of character you want Wren'Ishii to be. Expanded a bit more on those bits in the OP. -
When one comes off of anesthesia currently, they're perfectly ship shape like they weren't just drugged into unconsciousness. I think that after being anesthetized and brought back awake, one should have some wooziness and drunken effects left over for a bit. I propose that being under anesthesia slowly generates cryptobiolin in the system, with more generating the longer one is under anesthesia.

??? What 'slave implants'? There is nothing in-game to suggest that such a thing exists, though certainly not from any lack of effort on my part and more from people being intensely resistant to the idea of adding more mechanics that subvert their character's free will. Nevertheless, the loyalty implant is at the current time not any kind of slavery device, it's a weak plot device to justify their strong loyalty to the crew and pretending that people who have them are intrinsically trustworthy so that during certain antagonist rounds it can come up. It is in no way in canon defined what the loyalty implant does or how it works, or that it intended to prevent them from being enthralled by a vampire or turned into a cultist for an otherworldly being. Sure, that's what it's actually there for, but we can't just go around declaring that in character or we are basically knocking on the fourth wall of the narrative we set up. The argument is not inconsequential, you're just injecting lore that hasn't been displayed in any way thus far (that I'm aware of) to try and claim I'm quibbling minor details. Point is, I don't support this idea. I don't think we should start acknowledging that antagonists exist in the game setting if we are trying to create a self-contained canon where people at large don't know they exist on a round by round basis. They’re designed as a sanity implant, and stop someone from having a mental breakdown or flying off their rocker. That can also mean that a conversion antag would have a hard time subverting it, it’s basically a mental hardening.
-
my idea for mindshield implants is they act as a sanity implant, preventing those implanted with them from flying off the rocker or having some kind of mental breakdown. That could be applied to cult/vampire/etc. without ever touching having knowledge of them.

I don't love the 'must follow orders' thing. I can only imagine the situations where a Captain gives a shit order to the HoS. If we must do laws, these aren't that bad, but I still think the concept of the LI as it stands is more trouble than it's worth, and moving to a mindshield approach is better.
-
I know, I know, the conversation's been done to death already, but I don't think it's been put into a suggestion as a sanity implant, last time I can recall was to straight up remove the implants. Here's my own little proposal. Captain, HoS, and everyone else that normally is, is still implanted. However, instead of the implant whispering in their ear 'you're NanoTrasen's bitch', they're more of a protection. They keep a person implanted with them sane and somewhat level headed, how much so can vary by each character. Mechanically speaking, it's exactly the same as an LI with only one difference, that being it would allow the implanted to become, not start as, revs. As it stands right now, the LIs are basically a way for other players or staff to powergame one's character to a specific course of action with nothing more than a "you have to because implant!" Frankly, I think this is a direct opposite to the point of being a roleplay server--having the ability to create and express a character as you see fit. They would still not be able to start as antags except loyalist-based ones, it'd still take extra power to vamp them, and they'd be unconvertable. but it would add the possibility of a bit more depth for characters. I don't imagine people will behave that differently, but when it comes to it, a person will be able to make a decision without someone off in the distance crying out 'but the LI says you can't!'. Less restriction, fosters RP, doesn't change the mechanics that have us holding the LI so near and dear to our hearts.

had it confirmed that station command can in fact revoke payroll for the shift.

BYOND Key: sdtwbaj Game ID: bRS-aoTh Player Byond Key: DasFox Staff involved: none Reason for complaint: DasFox apparently forgot that he was a team antag, and decided to send a random rev announcement that most of aooc didn't appear to agree with. He decided that, since apparently we were taking too long and he didn't want to contribute to making a coherent story, he'd send a generic 'terminate all xenos' announcement. That isn't the direction we were going, nor were we particularly far off from having an actual plot. It was a giant middle finger to the rest of the revs, as well as the loyalists, to just spring up a lolannouncement like that. Did you attempt to adminhelp the issue at the time? If so, what was the known action taken by administration/moderation? No, there was a bit of discussion in AOOC, but we went with it. Approximate Date/Time: dec 10 2017, around 20-40 minutes into the round.

BYOND Key: sdtwbaj Character Names: Rhoda Marks, Cassandra Lahn, Lolly Vause, Dreidos, Marcus Halloway Species you are applying to play: Skrell What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): one of these Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: I have. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: First off, they're colorful, which is always a delight. Second off, they can play my post active role, Captain. That, and I also kind of enjoy their history, and their overwhelming scientific focus, as well as the dynamic that they hold with humanity in general, the whole 'little sibling' concept. Humans are smart, and they do mimic a younger Skrellian society, albeit with a much more economic and violent tendency. Compared to the Skrell, they're less 'enlightened' as far as their society and the manner that they approach the universe goes, and I think that really drives some Skrell to want to guide humanity, and bring them to the level of near-utopian society that the Skrell are enjoying in the Federation. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Well, they're a bit more patronizing, much more advanced, and have much different attitudes about the universe than humanity. One wants to turn a profit, and one wants to thoroughly learn as much as possible about it. They also have a richer history, filled with enlightenment and disdain over the spread of AI, as well as a much better sense of unity in their culture. Character Name: Wren'Ishii Qual-tep Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Wren'Ishii was born on an outlying, rather disconnected colony called Qual'tinne in 2343. It had been a prominent spaceport many thousands of years before, and had recently become re-established in the capabilities of producing it's own space vessels. Her family was heavily involved in the budding space program, commonly travelling between the first fully functional orbital port, and their homestead. This, of course, sparked her interest in space almost immediately, and thus her education was geared toward space and space exploration. Around the time she was sixty, the colony re-established full communications with the Federation, and was eagerly absorbed back into the mix, it's spaceport and the technology left behind being put to great use. Not too long after, word spread like wildifre through the Federation that another species has been contacted--they called themselves Humans. She was aboard a cartography vessel at the time, rebuilding maps of the outer regions of the Federation. The Captain of the vessel took it straight toward Human space at first opportunity, joining a Skrellian taskforce that was enroute to meet with a Sol Expeditionary Fleet group of ships. Wren'Ishii wasn't part of the initial contacts, but did have her opportunity to meet a Human not too long later, when the two workforces began becoming intertwined. She set her mind on the program immediately, bouncing around the hive of human megacorporations in a pure daze at the awe of the other society, almost thinking of the society as a 'little brother', almost like comparing the industrial revolution to the 21st century. After finding her place at the company NanoTrasen, she coasted along the corporate hierarchy, her deep space experience and education being put to work on various research stations and vessels. She was ultimately offered her own command of the NSS Aurora, and the rest is history. What do you like about this character? She has a simultaneous awe and protectiveness about humanity, which I think can really create an interesting dynamic when she interacts with humans under her. She has the whole little sibling ideal, and she genuinely wants to impart a positive message on humanity with some of the more altruistic values of the Skrell, because she thinks that they do have the potential to reach a point where they have just as high a quality of life as the Skrell do, and such a strong scientific base, pulled away from the needs for greed and violence. How would you rate your role-playing ability? 8/10

who needs to execute them i can make them draw 4

Add the card game Uno, tbh. does it really need an explanation here's what it'd need from coders: There are 108 cards in a Uno deck. There are four suits, Red, Green, Yellow and Blue, each consisting of one 0 card, two 1 cards, two 2s, 3s, 4s, 5s, 6s, 7s, 8s and 9s; two Draw Two cards; two Skip cards; and two Reverse cards. In addition there are four Wild cards and four Wild Draw Four cards. a rulebook, it can just be a thing that comes up when you examine the box or maybe a sheet of paper or something. (this im not sure if we have or not) ability to lay cards face up in a stack, and the ability to inspect the stack to see what's on top. so basically a bunch of new card sprites and items to go with said card sprites.

I actually agree with you there. But, you fail to see that while those roles have mechanical purpose in game- the Security positions, atleast- the two roles I specified are entirely based in RP. They exist for RP and have no other point. If I IR'd every Chaplain who did nothing but walk around with a trophy rack and hood while making no attempt to RP and ahelp'd every single Shrink who sits in their Office quietly I'd probably break my keyboard. I've always been of the opinion that more is less. Cut the fat from the roles, let those who truly want to RP as those occupations take them up instead. But on the point of Security, yes- entirely I think we should have either OOC or IC barriers on Officers. They can make or break the round, really. And that's something that should be taken into account with them not requiring anything but a short timer on the role befor eit opens. If the people who actually wanted to play the roles were consistent, they'd be visible. I doubt there's much competition for Chaplain or Psychiatrist slots. That, and Chaplain actually does have mechanics for battling cults and vampires. Also, frankly, it isn't these roles' jobs to create RP. They're laid out as a freeform way for people to take a direction and run with it, in the case of Chaplain, or try to do conversationRP, in the case of Psychiatrist. Antags exists to create RP, and these roles vary between existing to deal with antags and existing for the sake of existing. I can't see much benefit to whitelisting them, as really it would only lock players out of a job that they didn't particularly care about in the first place. That, and a whitelist implies that they can do something harmful to the round, which they really can't.
-
if we whitelist roles that require heavy RP, we should also whitelist security, bartender, and detective. if they're a shitty chaplain or awful psych, ahelp it, file an IR, make a character complaint, but whitelisting these roles is just a random bandaid fix that is akin to alt-f4ing them out of the server. -1

BYOND Key: sdtwbaj Character Names: Rhoda Marks, Sam Caputo, Dreidos, Marcus Halloway Species you are applying to play: Vaurca What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Zo’ra color. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: Bugmen, to me, will be a good exercise in doing other types of speech. With all of my present characters, they have normal human speech, and I think it'll be interesting to experiment with Vaurca speech, and adapting my typing to suit their accents and quirks. Also, Vaurca characters can be some of the funniest characters I remember, so I wanna get in on that action. I would be lying if I said I didn't want some of the mechanics they have too, like going into space without a suit. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Vaurca are entirely foreign to this type of life, and to these meatbag creatures they're working with, so I can really expand on the sense of wonderment as well as contempt for being thrust into such a strange environment for a Vaurca. Expanding on their whole VR hive lore, considering the curse of the Lil'dra, and so on. They're an entirely different society than anything that earth has ever experienced, so it's an interesting thing to pursue. Character Name: Za'Akaix'Voo Zo’ra Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs 'Beep!' 'Beep!' 'Beep!' was the first sound Voo remembered hearing, his first memory from around the age of six months. It was the sound of him being connected to the neural upload, and his consciousness being flooded with information. The beeping was constant, several type A workers buzzing around the facility, ensuring the upload was proceeding as planned. Voo carried a vague memory of a deafening 'BRRRRRRRRR' sound coming from a nearby upload terminal, before his consciousness was washed over and he found himself in a virtual body, in a virtual society--his first experience in the VR world. The environment was strange, but somehow felt homely. He then recalled from the recent uploads--it was a place called Vaur'avek'uyit, it was home. He distinctly remembered wandering the area, running his hands along the natural rock, staring into the seemingly infinite expanse that was the sky above him. It was...natural. Strange. Voo 'lived' in virtual training for twelve years, a constant stream of new knowledge at first, his mind expanding. His virtual form began seamlessly changing as well, as his physical body was prepared for his removal from VR into the physical realm. He was brought out of VR in a large hibernation bank, with other Vaurcae as far as his eyes could see. He then noticed that the room he was in was breached, a large hull fracture had sucked away the atmosphere and blown several hibernation caskets into space. He peered out of the fracture, and notice another vessel. Pure white, with many windows emanating light. Beyond the vessel was a planet, covered in shades of blue and green, with white clouds circling over it. A nearby terminal was beeping a priority alert across the entire ship. Voo tapped at the console, staring at it. 'IT IS TIME TO SETTLE' 'OUR JOURNEY IS COMPLETE.' Voo couldn't understand why, but he was filled with a sense of vindication as he made his way to the nearest worker pod, immediately joining a frenzy of Vaurca who were preparing the ship and her passengers for what was coming up--a new life was beginning in Tau Ceti. What do you like about this character? He has such a sense of wonder about humans and human space, his first real impression of the physical world was Biesel and Tau Ceti, and that's served as a glowing reminder that the real world, while not as perfect as VR, has it's own charm to work at. How would you rate your role-playing ability? 8/10 Notes:
