  1. Okay, let's talk about discretion. According to the rule in full, ERP is allowed and to be kept to a nongraphic situation. Okay? We agree on that? Great. The ENTIRETY of what happened in the closet was about 5 or 6 back and forths about talking, hugging and flirting. No groping, no unusual touching beyond a hug, no innuendos and no intercourse. This falls entirely under PG-13 label, no? So I question the discretion. I question it hard. What was the motive? It wasn't disruptive, there wasn't even LOOC talk until after the admins decided to involve themselves. There was no attempt to contact or discourage a situation that was not even breaking the rules as they were stated, the mod team decided to needlessly escalate it, and all for their chuckles. 2 People partially naked in a room counts as ERP now? I've been strip searched by security for little no reason. That didn't count as ERP, hell that wasn't even consensual. I've witnessed people dressing and leaving the security office, far more obvious something was going on in there. I didn't see any "ERP SQUAD' for that. So why, I ask, was this situation singled out save for it being a boring round and a mod team happy to abuse their power in ways that would get regular players banned for attempting to replicate in any form.
  2. The nature of the skype conversation is irrelevant to the situation. The rules only apply to events and exchange on the server proper. Again, what happened in the room was far below the PG-13 level, hell I can find you 'chick flicks' with more graphic dialogue and scenes. Had there been any discussion, acting out of ACTUAL sexual acts or anything beyond what at best could be considered foreplay, the actions of the mod team may have been justified. But as it stands, no. It's like being accused of breaking into someone's house for standing on the door step. The rules as they are stated as important, you can't have one set of rules on display and enforce a different standard. Which begs the question, What standard is the mod team even held to? Shattering any atmosphere that had been built in the round and harassing players because YOU may have taken offense? If the people involved had managed to do this without moderator powers, would they not be facing bans? The behavior of the staff at large is what has me upset here. IIt's hypocritcal Players are banned harassing other players, even in private. If any of the admin team had an issue with what has happening far away from the eyes of the crew, they should have contacted either or both of the players involved. Not simply decided to grief and laugh it off cause its a joke. Hows it any different when some baldy reads WGW over coms or people run about acting like greytide and using meta language.
  3. Does this give them the right to completely disregard every other rule set in place to preserve the RP atmosphere and gameplay?
  4. BYOND Key: Davidchan Staff BYOND Key: Staff of Extended round 11/22/2014 12:00PM-2:00PM CST [skull132, Doomberg, FFrances] Reason for complaint: Abusive use of Moderator/Admin Powers, Failure to resolve a situation in a civil manner, disrupting RP, ignoring server rules for personal enjoyment. Evidence/logs/etc: Byond crashed while speaking with Skull, I'm sure he'd be happy to share the logs as he was so adamant he was justified in his actions. Additional remarks: None of the staff made any attempt to contact prior to the event, and when questioned about their actions and motives after the event, they evaded questions and refused to explain their actions, where as they would ban anyone doing similar things to them outright. Staff online at time of incident: FFrances, Doomberg, Skull132, Sound Scopes, Casperf1, Pumpkinslice, Wittly. Extended Round, 2 hours into shift approx. Bored and seeing a friend in chemistry, She and myself flirted for a while before retreating in the maintenance tunnels to a Fire Fighting closet away from the rest of the crew. Flirtations became more and eventually she decided to remove her jumpsuit before we took the conversation to skype. At no point on the server did we say or do anything of a sexual graphic nature We ended up laying on a table next to each other and whispering to each other, but my character was still fully clothed and not a single mention of genitailia was made. While talking back and forth on skype, we heard mech footsteps outside the door of the locker, and upon opening the door a honk mech [Named ERP STOPPER 5000 or something to that extent], and an unnamed centcom officer. After blasting the air horn and summoning security, the mech gibbed and officer ghosted instantly. When asked about it through ahelp and admin PM, staff refused to site the reason at first and looc was simply admins laughing. Rules of the server clearly state that even ERP is allowed if it not of a nonporgraphic manner, and there are more rules about not being disruptive to RP, griefing or going out of your way to ruin others peoples fun. Yet our Admin staff is allowed to behave in such a childish manner when 2 players are following the rules the letter of the law and yet not a single PM or notification that it had gone to far short of blasting it on the entire server? I ask this: How is this behavior acceptable, as any non-moderator or admin who had behaved in such a manner would quite likely have been kicked from the server for any behavior mimicking this. Clowns are outright removed, players have been banned for having references to sexual acts or topics in their names, ect... And yet our shining example of an admin team saw 2 players alone, not harming each other or disrupting others, and simplys aw that because they were laying on a table and one happened to have removed their jumpsuit, they were going to jump straight in and fuck it up for everyone? There MUST be a moderator guidelines to prevent abuse of powers like this, there was no graphic language or actions happening, let alone anything approaching a 'Rated R', so I ask again just what the justification for the interruption and derailing was for. Keep the round fun for everyone - your actions should always have the goal to add to others' fun, not detract from it. -Do not break the atmosphere of the game. Also known as 'breaking immersion'. For example, using slang terms for antagonists IC "traitor", "rev", "cultist", "syndie", "wizard","changeling", etc. Use of OOC game slang IC, "robust", "shitcurity", "emag", "esword". -Erotic roleplay is only allowed under the following restrictions : Also known as ERP, you MUST have the OOC consent of everyone participating in it. Any ERP that takes place must be tasteful, and strictly non-pornographic in nature; essentially involving at its most graphic what one might see in an R-rated movie. Events and public decency take a higher priority over it, that means you can and will be punished by admins ICly and/or OOCly if the ERP is deemed disruptive. Admins reserve the right to break up any and all ERP at their discretion.
  5. IMO, NanoTrasen promotes racism, as long as it's not Blatant. Only Humans can be captains, ERT or CentCom officials, heads are restricted that well connected and high successful non humans can become Heads of Staff. With that logic in mind, NT employees who are a bit racist are almost preferred by corporate, they'll discourage non humans and give them a hard time for having the audacity for wanting equal treatment, and generally make life hell for anyone who doesn't support the NT Terra Firma policy, to borrow from Mass Effect lingo. As long as it's strictly IC and stays that way, I don't see a problem with it. Shouldn't be screaming hate speech over the coms, specially if another head or the Captain tells them to shut it, but a CMO giving a bunch of crappy duties to a Tajaran nurse or doctor and treating them like an intern is acceptable, or just harassing any civilian personnel that comes through, so long as they actually do their job and don't let them die, it's passable, if somewhat questionable.
  6. As fun as that sounds, misused defibrillators are basically stun batons that have a chance to kill last I checked, could be very dangerous.
  7. I've been thinking about this for a while, and in my own personal opinion, there is no reason to give the IAA higher access or additional equipment they otherwise don't have. An Internal Affairs Agent is basically a redundancy. IRL, 90% of what IA does for their job is review paperwork. Checking reports, accounts and anything else that might have been filed for discrepancies or evidence of behavior that goes against the policy of what ever entity they work for. If nothing unusual is found, or reported directly to them in the case of high profile incidence, they call it a day, come back tomorrow and search through a new stack of paperwork and documentation. They don't, for example, randomly inspect the various departments or branches of the entity they work for at random in hopes of finding something. Doing so would be a hinderance to who ever they inspected, wasting time and money. At the very best, they may have a scheduled inspection far in advance to check up on a previous problem spot to ensure the solution worked. On the flip side, once they do have evidence or reason to believe something, the power they wield is rather scary. As long as their bosses green light it, they can stop anything, search anywhere, and tear someone's entire job apart looking for signs of incompetence or loose threads that would be damaging to the company they work for. By themselves, they have no authority or power, but rather act as an extension of the company they work for and policies set in place before them. If you screw up, and internal affairs discovers it. They don't fire you themselves. They sniff out every little detail about your screw up, drag you back to their boss, and go onto their next case. The information they uncovered may get you fired or terminated, but in the end it's your boss or what ever entity you work for that decides your fate. So, no, in the end we should not give the IAA anything more to do their job, save remodel their office and ensure they have enough record keeping supplies to follow any complaints, write-ups or incidents that happens. If the Captain/Heads of Staff want to upgrade the IAA's access or gear, be a temporary boost to look into something or a permanent promotion to better aid in their advisory role, so be it. But this is at the pleasure of the Command staff, not the privilege of the IAA. Without a Fax from CentCom to reinforce anything they say, the IAA is just a civilian detective sniffing out clues of misconduct and turning the information over to their boss(es)
  8. I would LOVE to see Aurora go to the new Baycode Borg Modules. http://wiki.baystation12.net/index.php/Cyborg#Modules Instead of one borg per area, borgs are further subdivided into specialties (much like how regular crew is broken up amongst their departments), If it were possible to make 2-3 borgs per department, slight bit overlap on each one but each fulfilling a role the others don't do well, aiding or standing in for crew as needed. Surgical Borgs are entirely made for surgery, able to perform better then a most Surgeons, the Crisis Borg is basically an EMT. The default medical borg maintains it's position as a walking medicine cabinent. If there was honest interest in expanding and balancing out our Cyborg/Robotic crew, I'd be happy to help brain storm and test to give each area it's own little help (and slave)
  9. Droaksa Rawibusihr wonders why Mr ThrustGood has issues with people pronouncing his name? Droaksa never mind when people mess up his name, people seem to have problems grasping the finer points of linguistic skill. Maybe Mister ThrustGood... oh, that not his name? Terrrribly sorry, Tau Common is not Droaksa's native tongue. [And this from a guy who spent an entire round calling Stein 'Mr Steen' trying to get a rise out of him to make him get angry and screw up. Gotta love war vets who saw their homeworld turned into rubble for a cause, some maniac with a gun poking holes in his station just riles his jimmies a bit, but his hackles aren't puffing out from fear.]
  10. Just another note that can not be brought up enough. Paperwork. Do it. If someone makes a request for items not available to them normally (IAA wants SecHud, Additional Coms, Bartender wants chemicals from Chemistry, Somebody wants anything from the protolathe) find a form, make them fill it out, and have it stamped by who ever it is relevant to. Various jobs have lots of paperwork, make sure its kept up on, from Genetics testing, Cyborg Contracts, Access and Transfers. If a department doesn't have a head suitable, get the Captain/Acting Captain to stamp it and have the proper head stamp it soon as they become available as well. On the flip side, if someone makes a request for you to sign paperwork do it, you can disapprove it if you want, but your job requires you to acknowledge and handle any requests that cross you, if an assistant wants a job transfer or somebody wants to be Borged, it's the responsibility of the head to approve or deny it, simply refusing it over the radio and telling them to get lost is NOT acceptable. Any reasonable request that has been denied should also have reason for that denial (Subject can not be Borged because there is a lack of materials to create cyborg, Access can not be granted because individual has proven untrustworthy, equipment can not be granted because it would not benefit requester in their job and present a danger to crew if misused, ect...) Paperwork is a pain in the ass, but if you can't be bothered to do you job, expect to get demoted when the IAA has a list of complaints about you refusing to stamp and sign things and CentCom sends a fax back about you failing to keep proper records and facilitating the needs of the crew to be productive.
  11. Nobody is calling for increased damaged, fire rates or capacity on the base weapons. We want them to function wholly as they do now. I already outlined a scenario where we could easily remove quarter to half the weapons on the station/from the armory, replace them with 1-2 power cells/reloads a piece for a much more sane situation that results in EVERYONE who needs a weapons, getting one, hell there would be enough for everyone to have carbine or full rifle with a pistol as back up. They'd carry around a similar number of shots as they normally would holding 3-4 rifles in their pack, and there would be a delay in fire fights because reloading would require more user input than simply dropping/stowing the depleted rifle and pulling out a fresh one before firing again. Security (and players in general) would be less to just drop depleted weapons since recharging them would become much more sensible and any intelligent Warden could run like a proper quartermaster of the armory and issue replacement cells on a 1 to 1 basis for depleted ones to recharge, even if we use standard power cells for charges, this means most rifles consume about 15kW of energy to fire 8 shots if they come equipped with a high capacity cell as standard (like Mechs and Cyborgs) The only way to make energy weapons stronger would be through upgrades, which could still easily be balanced and explained since there really is no way to modify an existing ballistic weapons aside from adding a scope/sight to it, where as there is a plethora of interchangeable parts on laser and ion weapons that could be swapped out with upgraded models, which is more or less how our machine system runs.
  12. I think Sue and myself have been misunderstanding each other, or least not fully pushing the same ideas. I do feel there should be a vareity of weapons on the station, and there should be means to reload/recharge them as the situation calls for them. Security's weapons should have removable cells, magazines or power supplies that can be swapped out. Recharger stations (table mounted ones) should be available for recharging of these cells individually, and recharger ports (wall mounted ones) should be available to recharge a weapon without the need to remove the power cell. In my opinion, prototype weapons (proto-pistol and other such monstrosities) should not have a removable clip, at least the low tier ones, as they are still in the design and application phase, not production and use full scale. They should require use of a charger in order to recharge (generally requiring permission from security to do or requisitioning a charger port for use in RnD/Misc Research) Sef-Recharging weapons should exist as they do now. Their internal reactors or power cells so advanced or complicated they can not be removed easily, especially without risk of damaging the weapon. The Advanced Laser, for example, has a miniature nuclear reactor, removing it from the coolant system could cause it to overload and explode, after at time. The argument I was TRYING to make about ERT having better weapons was if (and hopefully when) we implement prototype pistol-esque upgrades to weapons, better coils, optics or capacitors to marginally increase the effectiveness of these weapons, items in the ERT armory should come with these where applicable, and the regular security armory would have the basic version of weapons where they apply. The antique laser pistol is a plot hole in itself, either being lost technology, or just a branch of technology not pursued, as the competitors to the tech may have undersold it or proved their technology was more cost effective to create or easier to manufacture and field.
  13. Syndie-Gum - It's a normal stick of gum. Or is it? Powerful Flavor, explosive aftertaste. Gum would require the user to 'eat it' (queue obnoxious chewing animation) for 30 seconds. After 30 seconds a message would tell them the gum is starting to feel unstable and bubbling in their mouth, they be able spit out an explosive gumwad into their open hand/floor if cuffed/hands are full. 2 minutes after they begin chewing, the gum would explode, create a single tile explosion for precision. Using the gum on any wall/door/mob would 'stick' it to them, securing the fate. Resiting while stuck would allow a player to shake it off (sorry Borgs.) Reinforced walls would require 2 (or more) sticks of gum to penetrate, as would high security doors (AI Upload/Vault/Armory.) Depending on how it's balanced, could be requisitioned in packs of 2-4 pieces or by the Stick. Warning: Do not chew gum for full 2 minutes. (Or trick someone into chewing it.) Scrambler PDA Card. - This black case has a picture of a robot shooting a helmeted figure holding a baton. PDA insertable card. Causes electromagnetic interference when used. Cyborgs, Drones and Cameras start to hallucinate when exposed to this, making them see things that aren't there or members of the crew look like someone, or someTHING else. Effectively a short (30-45 second) confusion of robotic players. 2 uses per card. Freemium Cigars. -In every way one of these looks like the captain's personal cigars. Except it's laying out on the floor unattended? Smoking this would cause the player to inhale potentially lethal doses of Psilocybin or Space Drugs (maybe mixed with a fair bit of sleep toxin.) The plus side is it gets you high, the downside is it's probably going to cause you to die of internal organ failure. Suspiciously Opaque Monocle. - This would be a very dark tinted monocle, so dark that when wearing it you can barely see your own hand at the end of your arm. Using this would require you to shut one eye completely and mounting it over your open eye, limiting your view to 2 tiles (1 normal, 1 shaded), but render you impervious to flashes or damage from welding torches. Small enough to hid just about anywhere; pockets, webbing, hazard vests, even inside a wallet!
  14. Some of these configuration assume a power cell installed installed into the suit. Power cells could be removed and charged manually, or EVA suit racks/Storage units could maybe be wired up to recharge the suit. I also assume there is going to be a limited number of slots or slots keyed to specific utilities. Installable/Mountable Internals/o2 Tanks - Hardsuits having attachable tanks that would be the primary/back-up source of air for the suit. Never forget to grab an o2 tank again! Remote Access. - Would like this on mechs more, but having a module or device on board that would allow the suit wearer to remotely access doors they have access to, within line of sight. Start an Airlock cycling to let you in sooner, ect... Tethers - Anchor yourself to a specific point tile. Attach to a floor, lattice, wall or grill, allows a player to slip 4-5 tiles before becoming taunt and preventing them from moving further away. Being flung at significant speeds (mass driver catapult/explosion shockwave/shield generator overload and blasting you off) would cause whiplash and injure you a bit further or even snap the tether and send you flying anyways. Grappling Hook. - Reverse of above, would allow you to target a tile with a solid object on it (floor, wall, grill, ect...) and latch onto it, reeling you in. Useful if you get knocked away from the station without a jetpack, or could be a quick way to get around. Possible to use on other players as an impromptu weapon to lightly damage them and reel them to you if you had magboots enabled. Recharger (Security/Command specific) would charge an E-gun/Flash/Stun Baton placed in charge holster while draining from internal power cell. Would be somewhat less efficient than a immobile charger, but good for emergencies or in the field recharge. Power Tether - Allows player to hook up to an APC or live power line to recharge their internal cell. Attaching to high power lines should require gloves, as normal. Cable Spool(Engineering) - Allow an engineer to hold 150 cable lengths (5 coils) and dispense them as needed. Useful for wiring solars or repairing breech damage. Mounted Welder(Engineering) - A large arm mounted welder, could be completely electronic and sap charge from battery or just hold 80-120u of welder fuel and require a tank to refill. Could be (illegally) modified into a low grade flamethrower. Nano-Dispenser (Medical) - Arm mounted syringe capable of holding 30u of material at a time, would be able to synthesize chemicals similar to a Sleeper (Dylovene, Inaprovaline, Soporific, Kelotane, Paracetamol and Dexalin) for quick medical aid and stablization in the field. Very taxing on the suit's internal cell.
  15. I certainly would like to see some form of exosuit bridge the gap between Mech and Hardsuit.
  16. The mods and utilities I use are: 4GB Extender (Lets NV use more than 2 gigs of ram.) Glowing Star BottleCaps (seriously these things are annoying to find and makes them special) MTUI (Extends the Dialogue window so you can see more than 3 lines of text/dialogue options.) New Vegas Stutter Remove (Self explanatory, optimizations that Obsidian failed to apply) Project Neveda (Graphical overhaul to terrain. Makes everything a bit less brown too.) Mod Configuration Menu (ingame interface for a few mods) The Weapon Mods Expanded (adds modifications for almost any weapon in the vanilla game, does a bit to balance them out and give lower tier weapons a bit of versatility, like a silencer and scope for the varmint rifle.) The Weapon Mod Vending Machine (For people who are too lazy to seek out weapon mods themselves, add 6 vending machines to the world that can be directly interacted with to add mods to your weapons. Very expensive) Willow (Seriously, she's so good she makes the standard companions seem... robotic.)
  17. The difference here is that the weapons available now are almost subnormal. Security Officers generally aren't very well equipped. Sure, IRL equivalents will have tasers, handguns or on the rare occasion a submachine gun or rifle, but only on high security details and assignments, usually these are a form of deterrent, not many people are going to cause trouble to a man holding a gun, specially one capable of automatic fire. But, even the most well equipped security guard really doesn't compare to Response Team. Be it SWAT, Counter-Terrorism or FBI Heavy Force-Responders, the Private Security officer is hardly going to be in the same league when it comes to equipment or even training. A Security Guard might be given a Kevlar Vest and Submachine gun, when he has trouble he calls into the police, the Swat Officer comes wearing not just a chest guard, but shoulders, arms and even leg protection, an Assault rifle that might have a silencer or flash suppressor on it with a holographic sight and laser sight to ensure his aim is true, and a rail mounted grenade launcher with a smoke or even tear gas grenade in it. Both have the potential to be lethal, but the Response Team is always going to be better armed, better trained, and best capable of dealing with a hostile situation. In terms of the server, The Security Forces are supplied with a number of tools to help handle reasonable situations that might develop from Domestic threats (the crew going a bit crazy, being cooped up, or a mutiny/revolution breaking out) But the ERT team has the some of the best weapons and gear available, RnD came just maybe scrap together equivalents or maybe something better, but it 's head and shoulders above what is sitting in the Armory just incase a pirates or a hostile force tries to take the station.
  18. I generally agree that the Title should be changed. Officer has much more air of authority to it, even with Skull's NCO examples (of Navy ranks no less... swabies,) the title is an earned promotion, not something you automatically get for signing up. Actual Officers would be leaders in Security, though since we rarely have more than a Dozen folks in Sec anyways, there is no reason to set roles to designate the guards higher then what they are, private guards hired to protect the investment of the station and keep things running smoothly. They have NO authority outside of enforcing Corporate Regulations.
  19. I would like to see some form of restriction from security until he can at least prove he knows how to properly behave in capacity of role and act as the situation calls for, not just how ever he feels like. If anything, he was power tripping hard and was acting like a greytide with a stun baton, not a proper sec officer.
  20. I think I was mistaking the command headset with the captain's headset, but still there something to be said about right vs privilege when it comes to the IAA. They have the right to ask for damn near anything on the station, but not the privilege to have it on their own authority. The Head of Personnel refusing the headset for any reason gives the Heads and IAA a chance to roleplay, without a Fax from CentCom the IAA has literally no power but to advise, but with that Fax they can practically change space law. They don't start out with any special equipment or access to sensitive areas, having unrestricted access to Command Channel would be incredibly over powered in my opinion. Again, this was emergency situation, much like the Captain's Spare ID when the people who SHOULD deal with it can not. OOC This could mean they are SSD, Dead or just not doing their job. And only CentCom would have the code to activate the safe to allow the IAA to get the ID card. This is an emergency powers thing, once the situation has been resolved or dealt with, the IAA would be expected to surrender the power and go back to being a normal agent for NanoTrasen. This is not trump card card for the IAA to use on any active heads of staff, but this is a contingency plan (albeit forced by OOC circumstances as this server rarely has enough heads to deal with a round) set by NT. If any heads of staff are active to deal with the threat, the request by the IAA would be denied, but if he can prove they are incompetent, rogue or just making the situation worse, he can have them demoted and himself temporarily promoted until someone actually qualified to deal with the situation comes along.
  21. Last I checked, stander procedure went as followed. 1) A crime is observed/Suspect set to arrest for earlier crime or suspicions. 2) Call for person to halt. 3)If they stop moving, announce arrest them. Announce the charges if possible, and If they comply, cuff them, if they keep moving again or still ignore you, use your hailer. You should say something over Security Channel about what is going on 4) If they still do not comply/run away/prevent you from cuffing them, use the minimumforce necessary to put cuffs on this. Flash>Stun Baton>Taser>E-Gun Stun Mode> Lethal Force. It's a judgement call to you on what item to use, if your flash is used it is acceptable to step up to the stun baton, but no going straight to harm batoning or shooting them with your taser when they are not moving. Having a partner at this step who can flank or block escape routes means you are both doing your jobs correctly. 5) Once they have been cuffed, reannounce the charges, adding any additional charges they may have done such as resisting arrest, sparking a manhunt or even assault if they attacked you or someone else. Declare over security channel the arrest and their charges. If the Warden is active they should confirm, consult space law and decide on time to serve in the brig, or if they need to be upgraded to the perma-brig/prison. At this point I strongly recommend Copy-Pastaing the list of charges, so that if anyone tries to intercept and ask why you arrested the person, you can read out the charges quickly and nobody intelligent will try to free or release your prisoner. 6) Process them, update their records, and sentence them official, for light and medium infractions the Warden, Head of Security or Captain should aware of what is going on, preferably one of them present as they are formally being read their charges in the brig and the punishment they will serve. If this is the first time a person has even heard the charges against them, or they do not match what they were told when they were arrested (vandalizing a window and being arrested, being upgraded to full terrorism and sabotage is not acceptable without further evidence of their intent.) I know that sometimes security can be a chaotic job, but you really should never be patrolling or responding to calls alone, especially since it really only takes one lucky disarm for you to loose your stun baton and find yourself buckle cuffed in the dorms while some greysuit now runs around with your ID, headset and equipment, Having a partner present can discourage a suspect from running off (having no obvious escape route) makes it easier to block people off who may try to run, and you can help each other take down particularly robust suspects who may have means to stun or reliably knock you down, just helping your partner up can make the world of difference when it comes to a dangerous criminal escaping or being sent to isolation until his trial is enacted.
  22. I'm actually torn on this one. I'm going to vote No. On the one hand, the IAA has the right to stick his/her nose anywhere they believe events or actions that CentCom/Corporate would not approve of. If they can dig up enough reasonable doubt that something bad is going on, CentCom can give them the authority to requisition any item they need to do any task, up to the Nuclear Authentication Disk to set the Nuke. An extreme example, but that doesn't mean for day to day operations the IAA has the power to just demand the secure briefcase/disk without reason. The start of every shift, how ever, is assumed to be normal operations. IAA is still a civilian-esque role and having access to every single channel from the get go might give players new to the role the wrong impression, worse still if they start talking to people on department channels. I would consider voting yes if they had a partially disabled headset that could only transmit on public radio, but intercepted all the channels of a Command Headset, if the IAA discovered anything to warrant needing a command headset all they need to do is Fax CentCom. In short, the IAA is an extension of CentComs will, upgrading the IAAs starting position to grant them additional access, equipment or authority is removing a Fax to CentCom, RP and a chance for the IAA to do their damn job. If we REALLY wanted to go batshit off the deepend for emergencies where the heads of staff are not present/dead or otherwise not doing their jobs, I vote we have a locked safe in the IAA's office, within the safe is an all access ID card and maybe a CentCom hat or other item to help them take charge of the situation. The catch here being that only CentCom has the passcode to the safe and the IAA would need to Fax out the situation and request the authority to correct it or at least salvage it.
  23. Captain's Side arm makes 3, if I'm not mistaken. Having weapons that recharge on their own is a good thing, but these should be unique or at least very hard to acquire. The argument to the clips is this. Security has an armory. I have never done a head count, but lets say there are 20 different energy weapons of varying form and style in there. In a logical, IC sense, we can give 20 Security officers, deputized citizens, mutinous revolutionionaries or just survivors in an alien invasion a gun for self defence. In actual game terms, everyone is going to take 2 or 3 weapons at least, because damn near any situation that justifies opening the armory at all means that there is hostiles actively roaming the halls and you aren't going to have a chance restock and recharge. So we have maybe 8 people now who can be deemed ready to defend themselves and the station (or overthrow it) Now what if we back up, every energy weapon has a removable power cell. Nothing else changes. We have a rack or locker full of power cells, lets say there are 30 spare power cells and 15 (stocked) weapons. We've reduced the number of weapons on the station, but literally doubled the number of people capable of defending themselves while allowing them to maintain about the same amount of firepower on themselves (being disarmed is a different story, but in most fights once you've lost your gun pulling out a second one may or may not help much at all.) It's a far more realistic approach and makes a lot more sense in character as opposed to having security officers shoving another carbine or pistol into their bag, tossing away standard equipment to make room. Coming back around to the point, these weapon would only have a finite number of shots based upon how many clips you brought along with, maybe pistols could squeeze more low powered shots out of a single cell than a rifle could for balance reasons, but there is a hard limit on how much damage you can do before you need to withdraw, restock and recharge. The advanced laser rifle and captain's sidearm, can fire indefinitely, the advanced rifle may overheat and burn you, but otherwise the self recharging weapons allow you stay in the fight until one side is dead, you're not limited to how much you can bring but rather how much fire you can take in that case.
  24. While you can't change the past, and I feel I have a good understanding of what you were trying to do, my suggestion is you still need to stick to your character and dynamic of your role. The Head of Security is the guiding light of Security, you should know Standard Operating Procedure by heart and able to spout out major infractions of space law from memory. Arresting someone without declaring charges is a no no, even a paranoid HoS thinking the entire crew outside of his department is looking to shove a bomb so far up his rump that his hat lands on Ian's head should know better then to arrest someone without giving a good reason, even if its for a pathetic charge like suspicious conduct with >5 minutes brig time, if they resist all the better for you goal. Lead by example, after all, if the HoS is randomly nabbing people from the halls or in their lobby, whats to stop your officers from doing the same? The Head of Security has the power and right to place injunctions on the crew for anything he deems could be a threat to the stability of the station, OOC it doesn't have to make sense or could knowningly turn the station into a powder keg, but IC it should be something the HoS believes. Banning visiting to the bar, making medical inform them of every incident or even forcing engineers to have an escort to wire up the solars. The point is you have a plethora of shitty white collar crimes you can charge a person with, you should be able to spout SOMETHING off before you slap the cuffs on and if at any point you have not stated the charges before they are their brig cell you should realize that something you did is wrong. If you're not an antag, you still have to do your job to the best of your ability, doubly so for heads of staff. You don't have to make people happy, hell you don't exactly need to be fair about it and intentionally give out longer sentences and stricter punishments, but god damn it you still need to follow the basic tenants of your job.
  25. That's what the Ripley is for. Being named for Ellen Ripley, it's only a minermech because it has a drill, it's still very valid to use for cargo, loading up to 15 crates in your hold at once and taking them somewhere else, buying lots of crap at once and using a Ripley to move it around is a godsend, my biggest gripe is it's too damn slow, a smaller exosuit that moved faster but with no drill and smaller hold would be acceptable to me though, we could even call it a NEWT.
