  1. Heyo, it's been about a month now and generally I've had very little time away from work and otherwise to put towards more than a couple rounds on Aurora. I think for now it'll be best to rescind the application so that if/when I do get the time to play I can just stick to my current singular character. If I can request to do a command trial in perhaps a month or two when things slow down then that would be preferred, thanks for being patient and responding Owen.
  2. Hey Owen thanks for responding, I've not been active lately due to repeated changes to my work schedule and generally being busy so I hadn't noticed this was accepted. I do plan on putting some time towards Aurora this week, so could you please extend my trial a week or so? I would appreciate the chance to try out command again.
  3. BYOND key: Firstact Discord Username: Firstact Character names: Azarii Marrkarr (bridge crew) Krrazama Vahzirthaamrro (sec officer) D'Jar Sa'Kuate (deceased, Head of Sec) Al'Hasam Rrho'harre (off-ship TCFL/IAC) Jo'Zah Saani (Former Chief Engineer) and many more, but probably not memorable to others. Yes, they've almost all been tajara, sue me. How long have you been playing on Aurora? I joined a few months after Aurora launched and have played ever since with a few breaks when needed. I joined back when we used an entirely different forum and ran around a barely-changed Exodus station. 🙀 Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they? I don't recall any administrative actions such as temp-bans I've had against me as a player, only IC investigations involving CCIA. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame? There are multiple roles that heads of staff play in an OOC fashion regarding Aurora. Primarily I would say they are present to provide an example of roleplay to newer players who may be unfamiliar with what's expected on the server. They also are to provide assistance to said new players through guidance and/or tutoring to establish OOC knowledge of game mechanics while building a standard of roleplay through IC interaction and discussion. Secondarily I would say heads of staff are there to help guide the direction of any singular round and assist in establishing the overall narrative of the current story direction. Command staff are responsible for how daily interactions with antagonists may play out, and are expected not to shut down their roleplay while also responding within their IC interests for themselves and the crew they are in charge of. This balance builds the experience needed for command staff to respond appropriately when we do have major events that change the servers narrative, and they are capable of exerting some influence into how these events play out for the entirety of the player base. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them? Similar to above, the responsibilities of whitelisted players to others are to maintain a standard of roleplay and behavior. I would hope everyone on Aurora is here to have fun in some way, and the expectation is that you aren't meant to have fun at the expense of others. This especially applies to command whitelistees given their potential impact on character narrative and general interactions between players in many circumstances. Furthermore, a whitelisted player of any kind is held to a standard of roleplay because those whitelists generate interest from newer players about the roles/species that are being shown. For example, as a Tajara whitelist holder I'm expected to have a good understanding of multiple broad subjects that impact Tajara characters and the ongoing developments in their lore. In failing to uphold that, I may not be representing the species as intended such as their approach to professional relationships and corporate or political views, and may give the wrong impression of what's expected of Tajara to a new player who is interested in them at a more surface-level view. Explain how the recent events in the Spur changed your character and how they came to be employed on the SCCV Horizon. For Nadiyya, directly recent events such as the rampancy virus haven't affected her too directly. However, she has been most impacted by the repeated attacks on the Republic of Biesel, and the resulting fall of the solarian alliance with the expanding effects that has had on the spur as a whole. The biggest event in her life so far was the Lii'dra invasion of New Gibson. While spared from much of the devastation due to working remotely outside of the biodomes, Nadiyya saw and experienced the profound psychological effects of the Lii'dra terror bombing. Having emergency response firefighting experience helped Nadiyya through this experience and she took charge of the crew in an effort to help everyone flee to safety. While performing volunteer relief work during the rebuilding Nadiyya took interest in more than simple reactor work and maintenance, and upon seeing the failure of multiple command chains to properly respond to the Lii'dra, she decided to go back to school and finish a higher degree to embed herself within the Hephaestus chain of command, for personal security and to try and enact meaningful decisions for those under her. Following the Lii'dra invasion, Nadiyya maintained work on New Gibson under Hephasetus, applying her knowledge of atmospheric chemistry during further studies in biosphere maintenance. Two years later, Nadiyya was kept relatively safe during the second attempted invasion of Tau Ceti by Frost, but the resulting cooperation between megacorporations and those with interests in phoron assets showed her that more was at play in a system where economic power is everything. In the years following the combined phoron scarcity and efforts to combat Einstein Engines have been topics Nadiyya has kept well informed on, and it's changed her view on corporations from simple entities of employment to those with keen economic interests that they fight to keep safe. In spite of the clear stigma against Tajara, Nadiyya felt that the best course of change would be examples from inside the command structure. After graduating and making chief, she spent a few years with Hephaestus performing biosphere maintenance and learning of new reactor standards post-phoron scarcity. Nadiyya has since decided to try and involve herself in the chainlink as a means of further advancement, and upon hearing of the Horizon setting course back for the republic, she submitted an application for transfer of her contract to the SCC under Hephaestus, both to secure herself within a higher chain of command and in curiosity for their mission outside of Tau Ceti. What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted? I'll want to play Chief Engineer to start with as its my most well known department mechanically but one of the command roles I've played the least, so a mix of familiarity with engineering and command experience should help me adjust to a supervisory role again. Engineering is largely independent but does well when given directions, especially from someone in touch with the rest of command when present, which means for a command role it's one of the least stressful to manage a full department with and will allow me to more easily learn any changes to the command structure that have happened since I stopped playing command. I will likely make a Head of Security and/or a Chief Medical Officer in the future as those are both roles I've been received compliments on my playstyle for aboard Aurora 2 and have been asked if I would apply for command again to play them. Once comfortable with command I would like to try out captain as it's been years since playing that role and I feel it's more impactful in the setting of Horizon rather than a station, and we desperately need a more solid command structure during most rounds. However, that is a distant prospect for now. Have you familiarized yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles? Absolutely. There are very few mechanics and regulations I'm unfamiliar with by now and I regularly read up on the wiki when creating characters or to bring myself up to standard with any changes. I'm familiar with every command role except for OM, though I have played Quartermaster prior to its implementation. Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking: Nadiyya Mirzahkiin, a somewhat new character designed for CE that I briefly played as atmos tech last year to check out Horizons atmos network before making some changes to them and swapping their last name. I've had this character created just for CE but kept delaying my application as I had other priorities. A 35yr old hharar tajara, born and raised on New Gibson, in an Ovanstad, Fallanland. A republican citizen by birth, but has never been outside of Tau Ceti as of their (potential) transfer to Horizon. She's a professional Hephaestus atmospheric technician with varied work experience within the system of Tau Ceti, notably running a glacier brick on New Gibson, being a fire response technician during some of the worst phoron fires in Mendell, and working biodome maintenance and power generation in Xoikko, New Gibson. While somewhat new to working aboard a ship, Nadiyya is very familiar with the duties assigned to her and has leadership experience. She expects those under her supervision to engage in safe and efficient practices but allows for autonomy with those who show clear communication and competence in their work, as she does understand that their decisions reflect upon her. I believe Nadiyya is a character well suited to training newer engineer players and/or apprentices, given my extensive experience in the department and her easy attitude towards employees. Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action? I have already had this whitelist stripped without having administrative actions against me, I'm aware that it is not a permanent status. Have you linked your BYOND account to the Forums? Yes. Extra notes: Fixed it 😼
  4. Game ID: cti-awZ8 Real Time: ~10pm EST Would you like to be personally interviewed?: [ X] - Yes [ ] - No Did you report it to a Head of Staff or a superior? If so, who? If not, why?: Yes, it was reported to Captain Marino who read the IR and approved of forwarding it to central command given the incident directly involves command staff. Actions taken: Unknown Additional Notes: (Please DM on discord me if this is too blurry to read on your monitor, I don't know why it got compressed so badly so I can write it out if needed.)
  5. The problem I find is that engineering is the department with the most restrictive backgrounds at the moment, it's not about playing specific corporations. I mostly suggested NT since I was unaware of the 3 department restriction and it simply made sense from their lore. However, I think adding orion to engineering would be a great solution for allowing full diversity in character creation. While Zavod doesn't make much sense in engineering to me, I think at this point it'd only be detrimental to remove a department that's assigned to them as there's enough established characters in zavod that it would disrupt or force to change. I don't think zavod itself needs to change, especially given the changes to make them more dominia-focused, which makes the restrictions on species seem more reasonable. By opening up engineering to orion as some of you suggested, this allows a more diverse choice in backgrounds for non-zo'ra vaurca, himeans (and free council taj), fringe coalitioners, free IPCs, non-heg unathi, and probably some other kinds of backgrounds I'm missing or are more rare. The mixing of departments and corporations on horizon has improved much since launch and now I don't find any issue when determining a background for my characters in any department excluding engineering, where a large amount of potential character types are limited solely to hephaestus; Which as greenjoe has said, can be largely incompatible with hephaestus and may not even be able to choose zavod, or would struggle to fit into that corporation archetype. A benefit I saw to having orion start in ops was the amount of different backgrounds played while orion was new, which included many of the more restricted character styles such as himeans, plutonians, and guwan, and I believe this would have a similar effect in engineering and may encourage some more population within one of the most vital departments on the server. Anyway, thanks for the feedback in general guys and I hope the discussion continues in some form. Engineering definitely needs some more options regardless of how it's accomplished!
  6. Wow, I don't think I've seen an unathi zavod. (I have probably seen a zo'ra though) I just mostly see them played by russian/dominian humans in the past year and a half, but my lack of whitelists is showing.
  7. In the current state of engineering, hephaestus is largely the only option for a large majority of characters due to zavods species restrictions of humans and ZI-IPCs only. NanoTrasen has employed atmos techs and engineers in the past, and while some of their navy was retconned I imagine they'd have still employed many ship and station technicians throughout their large collection of assets. So, why is their presence so limited on Horizon? While it certainly makes sense to limit NT out of security and supply given the other factions with dominance in those fields, it hasn't made much sense that NanoTrasen wouldn't have any presence in the engineering sector. While the ship was largely designed as a joint effort between heph and zavod, NT has the staff to operate in this kind of setting, especially when it comes to supermatter technicians. Opening up engineering to be staffed by NanoTrasen alongside the other factions would allow more diversity within the department and their characters origins. Additionally, it would hopefully not be difficult to implement assuming the NT engineering outfit sets are still in the codebase, though that will have to be seen. In general I would say there needs to be more crossover in department employment where it makes sense, and not every department needs to try and restrict down to two factions. Specifically, Zavods other presence on the ship is in departments with two other options, NT and Zheng-hu for sci, and PMCs or Idris for sec. I think it stifles the ability to create certain characters when their roles are limited to potentially restrictive backgrounds. Please, tell me what you think about it. Note: I probably won't respond immediately to anything as I rarely come on the forums or check my associated email, but I'll try to respond.
  8. Sorry, I was busy for a while. Go ahead and close this please, I won't be around to play for a while still.
  9. BYOND Key: Firstact Staff BYOND Key: Arrow768 Game ID: N/A Reason for complaint: Logged on last night for D'Jars CCIA interview after not playing for an entire day and was met with a warning popup issued by arrow stating that having a character with any involvement with odin civil protection is not allowed, declaring it a special role, which would be akin to ERT, TCFL, etc. I was not approached in any way prior to this warning. I was never PM'd while playing, DM'd on discord, nothing at all. With this I believe the warning was applied on impulse since I've never been talked to about it before, and it was done almost immediately after I logged off. Arrow is on all three main discords, as am I, and my DMs are open. We both go by the same exact usernames and he could have easily reached out through the slightest bit of effort before making a decision. As for the context of the warning, I could see arrow being confused about the record and thinking D'Jar is a character to be played via dock security, since that would be an issue and has been shown in the past to be worthy of warning. So, not only does this warning go against what I've discussed with staff in the past about how civil protection works (since it was barely stated on the wiki) but there's still multiple other characters active and inactive that are current or former civil protection staff. To say the entire internal security department, who's headquarters are located on the Odin, is invalid for any character remotely involved with the Aurora to hold just makes no sense to me. D'Jar has been active with civil protection and very open about it for nearly five years now, nearly the entire duration of the character. I have never once played him as dock sec/specialists. If this was ever an issue I don't think he and other characters would've been allowed to stay with civil protection for very long. If for some reason it was suddenly decided that civil protection is off-limits to touch then it wasn't announced or made clear, and would essentially just delete two of my characters. TL;DR - I was warned with no contact or context about something that's never been an issue on Aurora for others. Evidence/logs/etc:

During his attempts to inform them that any in-depth records would need authorization from central command, Jones had made several speciest statements towards officer Szsk and investigator Kuru. D'Jar gave a verbal warning for him to leave the lobby, and then assisted the prior crewmember in the head of security office. Upon leaving, D'Jar witnessed Jones making two more speciest remarks towards his officer, in a clear attempt to provoke response. He was given a second warning, and when ignored, ordered to leave the lobby. Officer Szsk asked to charge them with i110 as while D'Jar was gone they had attempted to start conflict with the two security staff. Seeing as he was clearly aggressive to all three security staff already, and had ignored two warnings to stop insulting officer Szsk, D'Jar saw no reason to doubt their integrity and wrote a warrant for Jones on i110. Barely a minute later, D'Jar and Szsk left the ISD to confront Jones, only to immediately find him insulting unathi as a species in front of Valetzrhonaja Nayrragh'Rakhan, an off-duty chief of engineering. Upon being presented with a valid warrant, Jones refused to cooperate and closed the distance between D'Jar, showing clear intent to physically resist. Seeing the obvious warnings, D'Jar employed a flash before pulling out his stun-baton, upon which Jones had immediately attempted to strike D'Jar. A brief conflict ensued with Jones physically assaulting D'Jar, before being detained by himself and officer Szsk with moderate injuries. D'Jar had minor injuries, sustaining a few closed fist strikes to his nose and jaw, which required treatment from Dr. Roberts and usage of painkillers. Upon being released by chief medical officer Atiyeh, Jones was transferred to ISD processing cell two. Szsk was overseeing the subject in the cell with investigator Kuru while D'Jar had been busy writing the new charges and an incident summary. Officer Szsk indicated that Jones was resisting in some way, but did not specify that he had managed to slip out of the standard issued handcuffs inside of the cell. Officer Szsk proceeded to enter the cell before being tackled down by Jones, who had now stolen Szsk's baton. Alan Jones proceeded to continually strike at Szsk while they were briefly unconcious with the baton while Kuru and D'Jar attempted to detain. Kuru and D'Jar were struck with said baton during a brief fight before the subject returned to beat Szsk over the head with the now de-activated baton. Seeing the clear intent displayed, D'Jar responded with potentially lethal force through use of his disruptor, following with telescopic baton strikes to the jaw, neck, and head to subdue Jones. Once Jones was secured medical was called to the scene, with both Jones and Szsk rushed by medical for emergent treatment. After initial examination, chief Atiyeh confirmed to D'Jar that officer Szsk had suffered moderate to severe brain damage and severe blood loss as a result but was in stable condition, and confirmed Jones was in moderate health with multiple fractures but stable. Upon release by medical staff, Jones remained in ISD custody inside of solitary cell one where he continued to make speciest comments and directed threats towards D'Jar himself. These threats to himself and Szsk continued until the subject was transferred out of our custody upon arrival to central command. Submitted Evidence: Alan Jones Employment and Security Records - error with connection to database at the time Comprehensive evidence report from investigator Kuru, fiber samples and prints on baton used to assault officer Szsk. Additional Notes: Alan Jones is already well known within ISD for his violent tendencies and inability to seemingly have any self control. It is unacceptable that we allow such low standards from our EPMC partners to set foot on station. While his criminal charging will remain separate, D'Jar advises that Jones never be allowed to seek employment of this nature with any SCC partners regardless of the results following any criminal trial. Additionally - D'Jar was unable to retrieve record of charges via the ISD sentencing consoles. Charges were as follows: I110 - Slander or Verbal Abuse I202 - Resisting Arrest and/or Sparking a Manhunt I301 - Attempted Murder I306 - Assault on a Head of Staff I307 - Escaping From Holding Until Transfer (Escape during HuT sentencing before attempted murder) transcript.txt
  11. Really prefer the one on the right. More fitting in-setting and imo better aesthetics.
  12. Reporting Personnel: D'Jarrana Fakhri-Marajurl Sayyid'Kuatane Job Title of Reporting Personnel: Head of Security Game ID: b4a-bd17 Personnel Involved: Head of Security D'Jar Sa'Kuate Offender/ Security Officer Jack Kindred Offender/ Cargo Technician Bernadette Gutagh Witness/ Security Officer Oscar Easter Witness/ Security Officer Klaus Kitzler Witness/ Detective Avery Dawkins Secondary Witnesses: Chief Medical Officer Gavin Glover Time of Incident: Unk Real Time: 3:30am Mountain Standard Time GMT-7 Location of Incident: NSS Aurora II Nature of Incident: [ ] - Workplace Hazard [ ] - Accident/Injury [ ] - Destruction of Property [X] - Neglect of Duty [ ] - Harassment [ ] - Assault [ ] - Misconduct [X] - Other _____ Overview of the Incident: Early in the shift D'Jar had received messages from Gutagh asking if they were able to legally perform training surgery on animals for "self teaching." They were advised it was illegal without proper supervision and approval, given their position and lack of medical practice license. Due to repeated statements over the radio providing self-incrimination that they ignored this and proceeded with the surgery, they were arrested for animal cruelty and had their surgical tools seized, alongside numerous organs, including a heart and brain. They repeatedly insisted it was safe and for training, and claimed to cease doing so when released. They did not seem to understand why it was illegal. Approximately twenty minutes after Officer Kitzler overheard Gutagh and Kindred discussing a price on an item for sale, five hundred credits total. Officer Kindred had their firearm drawn from the holster, and were approaching Gutagh before being interrupted. Kitzler claims to not have seen the resolution of this. Much later in the shift, D'Jar was in the process of searching Gutagh with Officer Easter following more self-incrimination to alleged surgery by Gutagh. Upon searching the cargo bay, a crate of bloody surgical tools was seized, which Gutagh had been attempting to leave cargo with. They insisted on sending the shuttle back to central command, but were unsuccessful before complying with detainment. Upon detainment, Head of Security Sa'Kuate left the scene to respond to a shots fired call, with Officer Easter remaining on escort for the detained party. Upon return, the surgical items had been disposed of and the cargo shuttle had been sent to central command. A human quartermaster was on shift at the time, who's name is unknown at this time. They insisted the shuttle console was not touched and that there were no surgical items in the cargo bay. Upon further search, the tools were not found, however a hidden compartment with phoron-based floors and locked doors was found within maintenance by Head of Security Sa'Kuate and Detective Dawkins. Upon further investigation, it had nothing of note, however clearly belonged to Gutagh due to her possession of two keys to the doors. Gutagh was then charged with one more charge of animal cruelty, and one charge of contraband, due to belief beyond a doubt of her involvement. During these processes, D'Jar had received a tip from Officer Kitzler of the possible transaction that had occurred between Gutagh and Kindred prior. Due to the suspicious nature and severe charges to Gutagh, Officer Kindred was ordered to be searched. Upon a completed search by Officer Easter it was found that they possessed no assigned firearm, despite being seen with one prior in the shift by both Officer Kitzler and Head of Security Sa'Kuate. Upon further investigation Head of Security Sa'Kuate found no displaced firearms within the lockers, or within the cryogenic chambers. And had ensured the firearm was replaced by the previously cryogenically stored officer, before they had left shift. The two spare firearms on the top floor were removed by Head of Security Sa'Kuate earlier in the shift before Kindreds arrival, due to the safety concerns on code blue. Upon a short discussion with Officers Easter, and Kitzler, it was determined that Kindred would be searched once more to determine the loss of a firearm. Upon completed search there was no firearm present, including their spare ammunition, which was unaccounted for in any locker. During the detainment Head of Security Sa'Kuate searched the cargo bay once more, to find five hundred physical credits, belonging to Officer Kindred from a transaction this shift, and among Gutaghs items. Due to the belief beyond doubt they partook in an illegal firearms sale, Kindred was arrested and charged with neglect of duty, and petty theft. Both parties had interviews attempted, however proceeded to enter S.S.D before they could proceed. It is believed that further action should be taken for such illegal activity. D'Jar has submitted the evidence he could electronically. The rest was given to Odin Security to hold in storage pending any investigation. The evidence given to Odin Security would be numerous preserved monkey and farwa organs, including one brain and heart, as well as the five hundred credits. See attached files for Kindreds charges and transaction log. Did you report it to a Head of Department or IAA? If so, who?: N/A D'Jar Sa'Kuate is the Head of Staff for this incident. Actions taken: Bernadette Gutagh charged with 2x i112 animal cruelty, 1x i212 contraband. Jack Kindred charged with 1x i206 neglect of duty 1x i102 petty theft and suspended from duty. Additional Notes: All of these events occurred while the station was within code blue, due to an unrelated incident in the early part of the shift, and one undisclosed officer death due to a carp migration. D'Jar also believes the petty theft should be increased to grand theft should the firearm not be recovered by Odin Security.
  13. Hard to believe it's been this long already, time to go back to redsec and beat greytides with a baton. And also probably ditch the SM outside of the engineering outpost in favor of a combustion engine.
  14. I was asked to give input into this so I will keep it pretty short and concise. My personal experience from an outside perspective often, has been a mixed bag, but I have two main views to address. They are fairly decent at roleplaying with specific players as antags, but often outright have ignored other antags who were never even given a chance to roleplay the situation. When Lin roleplays, it's actually fairly good. The problem is it's inconsistent and only seems to be with certain people. I've seen the same scenarios play out quite a few times, on both ends. With some of the more common antag players, Lin is actually willing to partake in the round and for the most part, they're fine. However I've also seen Lin do exactly what they complained about, which is instantly ganking someone without any prior roleplay. If they're going to be HoS, a position that normally drives the round, they need to be consistent with how they engage antags. From an outside perspective, time after time, it has seemed incredibly obvious that it is just meta-friends in some manner. Second point: Lin somewhat consistently dismisses their actual role as Head of Security. Similar to Brutishcrab (for reference) as a HoS, they seem to feel inclined to take action specifically upon themselves, often denying the chance for some of the better sec players to even partake in the round. A few examples would be privately talking with an antag that they know personally, for well over half an hour. Taking half the armory themselves to chase a single antag, leaving their entire sec team in the dust with no communication. And immediately shutting down parts of the round that she does not seem to enjoy. Either on the side of the antags by immediately chasing them solo, or on the part of officers, who I've seen try to give said antags actual chances to roleplay. From my experience ghosting on rounds, I've not often seen Lin perform as a security manager. They more resemble the old issue of simply trying to be "Super Security." Or in other words, a validhunter. As a closing note, I have not often seen Natcula actually take constructive criticism. Not only have I seen others attempt to be constructive with your behavior via LOOC, but I have tried to myself after seeing them get shut down. If you don't want people to complain about your behavior, you need to see that they are not explicitly the issue. I get that this has gotten a little heated, but your behavior is seriously in need of change, as it has driven quite a few players to simply avoid playing when you're on. And I shouldn't need to stress how fucking terrible that is for the server. If you somehow see this criticism as a personal attack, then I don't know what else to say.
  15. Appealing Personnel: D'Jar Sa'Kuate Specific Incident: Action taken as a result: Permanent Suspension from Head of Security and Reprimand. Action contested: Permanent Suspension Reasoning for contest: D'Jar has spent his time in suspension serving as a security officer aboard the NSS Aurora II, and does not believe the suspension is necessary anymore. Given the financial, social, and professional difficulties following the CCIA action, D'Jar has learned to better himself and believes he is ready for the position of management once more. He understands the severity of a slander charge and wishes to continue employment with Nanotrasen in the position he is meant to be assigned to. It is extremely unlikely D'Jar would make such a mistake again, especially with the re-implantation if he has the suspension lifted. D'Jar waited until he was confident the lesson was learned before appealing this decision, as it would have been disingenuous to immediately contest such an action. He also heavily contests the accusation of racism, such as he previously did in the initial interviews. D'Jar has never felt hatred towards any race or species purely based off of what they may be born as. including the Njarir people. D'Jar would consider it extremely hypocritical for such charges to be true, given his close ties to the Njarir in his past, which he may clarify if needed as this subject was not addressed in his initial interview.
