  1. All good, thank you. Let me know if a further expansion or clarification is warranted!
  2. There is only one woman.
  3. I'm sorry if this is confusing, I don't have an editor, but I do have a ton of thoughts. A huge chunk of my experience in SS13 is related to Engineering, and how it's evolved over time. Right now, the only mechanical distinction between AT and ENG is access regulated to Air Alarms, APCs and Lockers, and I think that is genuinely OK. These two jobs are absolutely not equally different and over time, they've both lost chunks of their identity to one another as time went on. Engineers getting access to PAPs and Scrubbers was perhaps the single biggest change that ever affected Baycode Engineering since... ever. And that's okay, really. Engineering as a concept is in a better spot now. The listed changes here; I do not think would be a meaningful addition or subtraction from either job. As things stand, Insulated Gloves not being a part of an Atmos Tech's kit is a genuine meme. It's such a glaring oversight in the safety equipment of their workplace and the amount of electrical work that Engineering does (i.e. Doors & Vendors) could entirely be justified as hobbyist in the far future of 2466. Increasing airlock access for Atmos Techs rather than tackle the root problem of "Listen, they need to get places that aren't going to be powered on all the time" isn't really a solution and neither is yoinking a QOL feature (RCON, i remember when we had to WALK there...) and a monitoring feature (Power Monitor). It wouldn't be unlike if half of Medical couldn't use the suit sensors. Atmos Techs having the Atmosphere Control console is different, in my opinion, because it can resolve an emergency remotely. There isn't really an equivalent for electricity; though an "Air Monitor" that lacks remote control wouldn't be unwelcome, I think. The more Engineering knows as a collective, the better they work. Instead, I think Engineering and Atmos Techs have historically benefited from doing a lot of the "Emergency" work of the other. I remember when ATs had to leave pumps in the old lobby of Exodus and they were screwed without it and to this day, Engineers have been doing back alley deals for their precious yellows just because doors and vendors are a headache. ATs have gotten many, many, many things since then, and Horizon currently has a bunch of things for them to poke at, maybe forever. With the loss of Leviathan, Engineering tangibly lost something (however infrequently it was used). Seperating AT and Engineering off of the Cool Big Things and letting them share the same pool of basic things they can do (i.e. build walls, windows, throw wires down and hack various things) is both anti-frustration and personally, important to having the jobs be fun without worrying that they're somehow breaking the rules by throwing down some floor tiling or fiddling with some wires that really ought to be simple in operation. In short; Engineering should handle high-power systems and Atmos should handle anything that involves a pipe, but the menial roundstart and random event work really shouldn't be anything split along lines. Give Engineering sole responsibility over Shields for now and consider adding their own thing to experiment with. Maybe several. The various "Engineery" things now aren't particularly exciting and I don't think anyone's gonna cheer that they can remotely touch substations; it's just a routine thing. Detracting from AT in this case would be a negative. And, since, it'll probably get brought up: I don't think merging the jobs is a good idea anymore, though it definitely was before NBT launched.
  4. Why'd it have to be rats...
  5. more lore, and less sanitized How did your character obtain this item?: Lun'azhak is one of the few scientists under Zavodskoi who's research and field aren't more suited for a lab, instead much more at home in the field and in a hostile environment. As a relative minority within Zavodskoi, few things fit her anatomy well or even comfortably. This specific suit was manufactured especially for her, prior to a long-term (5~ years) mission to a remote exoplanet for a long-term analysis of the world as reliable and bespoke equipment is only natural for missions to locations without consistent resupply and there is a noted shortage in Sinta-specific equipment, making this Vorobey a one-off production for a rising star; though not necessarily for free. She's stuck paying it (though comfortably) for the next long while Why is your character bringing this item to work?: Given the suit's relative expense (as any specially produced spacesuit ought to be) and it's designed-to-specifications nature, it's a bit of a white elephant now that Lun'azhak has been assigned to SCCV Horizon, it's still not totally paid for and most certainly something without much resell value (if it could be sold at all!) As such, it's been kept around past it's original mission. Bringing it around now is a comfort and security thing; it's an expeditionary suit that's followed her around as a second skin through space, snow, ice and stone for majority of her career outside of a lab assistant. To her, it's a way to show off achievement within the company: She's important enough and loyal enough that she has a piece of bespoke equipment and isn't particularly shy of her corporate ties. Letting it remain a trophy when it's fully functional and not particularly old would be a waste, too. What value does this item have to your character, and what story does it tell?: In a literal sense, this suit serves as a more direct way to underline corporate loyalties on a character who most certainly is a loyalist, but it also serves to underline that they're intended to be both experienced, storied and a veteran within the field. This makes that visually obvious. On a more subtle note, it highlights how much this character is reliant on Zavodskoi for her success- she's committed enough to her job to integrate it into her personality. (more than is healthy, probably.)
  6. Yeah, this is all fair. The explanation given here is relatively terse because I wasn't entirely sure how in-depth would be appropriate. The voidsuit applications I've seen have mostly been about comfort and "this was purchased". The two examples we have (to mind) are a Captain and an Engineer that worked with the Yeongseon in a military capacity (i think?), so it seemed important to mention the financing part, rather than let it be in the air. I wasn't entirely sure if I should write up something really long considering my previous item application was relatively brief. Because while "wow! cool suit" is definitely an OOC consideration, it's not the only one, and definitely not the main one. It's just difficult to justify "I'm such a fan of Zavodskoi, I brought the suit I'm most comfortable with from a previous work site" without saying, "I bought this thing, and I'm comfortable in it." given that this isn't an Offworlder and doesn't have the easy reason. I also didn't want to toss out something unreadably long. Would you want an expanded set of reasons, or would a new post entirely work better?
  7. What is the team looking for in terms of "unique lore" in this case? Are there other examples that have been accepted that I could consider? What other reasonings are acceptable, as well? To my memory (and i forget where exactly I read it) the current Himean Voidsuit kits we have are both expensive to ship in from Himeo and are stuck in a pit of red tape because of that. I also can't imagine Voidsuits as anything other than expensive, but I could be totally wrong on that. Finally, in any future version of this, would the art need to be changed? the evil energy™ isn't something I'm totally sold on, but everything zavod-themed seems to radiate it.
  8. gotta HAND it to them, they really got a LEG up
  9. BYOND Key: Aticius Discord Username: @Aticius Character Name: An'khaia Lun'azhak Item Name: lightweight Zavodskoi voidsuit Item Function(s): A modkit to edit other voidsuits, similar to the Himean Voidsuit Modkit in the loadout, but with more menacing Evil Energy (tm) Item Description: A lightweight hybrid voidsuit produced by Zavodskoi Interstellar. The Vorobey line is a proscribed, low-unit, suit designed for hazardous operations in regions where anomalous activity or dangerous environments may be present. Unlike traditional voidsuits, however, Vorobeys are hand-fitted for specific users due to their abundant use of polymerized fabric. As such, Vorobey suits are not commercially available without connections to Zavodskoi Interstellar. This specific suit is fitted for an Unathi and has room for both a huge set of horns and a massive pair of sails. How did your character obtain this item?: Lun'azhak is a long-time employee of Zavodskoi Interstellar and has had a significant amount of time doing survey work in anomalous and hazardous locations, as such, a voidsuit tailored specifically for them (and their non-standard anatomy) makes plenty of sense. Having access to a Noblewoman's amount of wealth also ensures that keeping the suit from it's original posting is a possibility. Why is your character bringing this item to work?: Lun'azhak is professional that thrives on consistency and works for long hours inside a voidsuit consistently. Unfortunately for her, she carries a pair of frills and a set of horns that deserve their own post code. Having a comfortable voidsuit is paramount. It also helps she's a Zavodskoi loyalist; flying her megacorporate colors is a point of pride for her. What value does this item have to your character, and what story does it tell?: For Lun'azhak, this suit is a comfortable alternative to the standard Science voidsuits in her department and something she's worn previously at other postings. Outside of that, it's a good way to underline that she's both unusually professional to the point of having a voidsuit designed specifically for her and loyal enough to show off corporate colors when alternatives exist. 10. BYOND Key: Aticius Game ID: round before csx-bdOE Player Byond Key/Character name: Acstub/Bobby Kapoor Staff involved: N/A Reason for complaint: This complaint is primarily made as an alternative to an ahelp, since the ticket was never taken. During the round, Bobby Kapoor spent the round essentially greytiding: Getting repeatedly drunk, asking the pharmacy for ethylredoxrazine, getting drunk again, throwing themselves off a railing and making veiled death threats ICly and generally behaving without much consideration for the setting. Doing this while also having a character with a dark skin tone + large afro and getting mad at someone for "Snitching" is also fairly spicy, I think, when paired with everything else. Sorry for the lack of logs n' screenies, I hadn't considered to take them and I'm about to fall asleep as I make this. Did you attempt to adminhelp the issue at the time? If so, what was the known action taken by administration/moderation? Yes; but no staff ever took the ticket. Approximate Date/Time: 2/3/2024 12:30 AM~ CST
  11. I will freely admit that I am far from unbiased when I give my little +1 to this whitelist application, as I have known Itelinee for a *long* time. While i'm quite happy to see her apply, I think it's important that it not be accepted lightly; even if I know she's got the RP chops and the interest for it. To keep up with the battery of questions, though, I will add my own. Given that Izekissha is an Ouerean, they have a more prominent and underlined opinion of both the Hegemony and Nobility, specifically. How has Ouerea's history impacted their view on both Nobility and the Hegemonic caste system as a whole?

  13. BYOND Key: Aticius Game ID: cro-aRrc and the two rounds previous which did not complete, but this is an apparent problem that extends well beyond these rounds. Player Byond Key/Character name: Dave Smith (Also known as Tim Bilbert/Dave Hilbin/John Jackson) Ckey: Quiet Cowboy Staff involved: campinkiller, YouJustGotOwened Reason for complaint: Essentially, Dave Smith, one of Quiet Cowboy's characters is a non-character. I have never, for what seems like a good 8, maybe 12, hours of sharing a round with the guy, seen any amount of roleplay that shows any interest in engaging with Aurora's community beyond targets for either antagonism or general trolling. He has a consistent behavior of playing an antagonist, largely only Traitor or Vampire, and minimizing anything that isn't directly necessary for antagonism's sake. On the occasions where he isn't a solo antagonist, this lack of characterization and interest extends even into Extended, where Dave Smith will simply rattle off insults, be a nuisance and generally behave without even a mild consideration to the setting at large or the passing thought of continued employment. His Antagonist play is also incredibly lacking. He plays exclusively to get kills and maximize mechanical success over the broader enjoyment of the server from what I have seen. While his antagonism involves many people, they are exclusively mechanics first and tell no story beyond what the mechanics allow for, beyond "That guy's an asshole, huh?" To seal the deal, this is a player who has atleast five antag unban requests, a previous player complaint (dated 12 days ago as of this post). While the previous complaint was rejected, I hope that this second one will stick. Did you attempt to adminhelp the issue at the time? If so, what was the known action taken by administration/moderation? No, however his actions on round cro-aRrc were handled in part by YouJustGotOwened, with an unknown outcome. In previous rounds, I have not made an attempt to ahelp, as nothing appeared in the moment to be worthy of it (though maybe I should have.) Approximate Date/Time: 12/22/2023 - 12:30~ AM, CST
  14. I think it was more related to "The Job did too much", which is an odd reason to give. Maybe it was to streamline medical's job with That-One-Guy-With-Robotic-Everything? I can really only speculate. Even if Machinist is given the duties of "Build anything under the sun that comes out of a lathe", I'm still not sure they'd have enough to do. Giving mechanical organ repair seems fine, but the Machinist Workshop currently lacks anything that even counts as a sterile environment, so they probably shouldn't do it without being dragged to medical by the ear.
  15. That seems like an awful change. Surgeons are already hilariously qualified (considering the amount of surgeries they need to know how to perform). Biomechanical Engineering seems an excess, and the one cool thing that Robotics got to do.
  16. I literally didn't even know about this, and second, What? Why? They barely had to do that line of work, and it's right there in their lab? What? That's even more ridiculous.
  17. Machinist is a little confused, conceptually. It's a job in Operations tasked with building things and operating lathes that is overseen by the Operations Manager. The confusion starts in the details, Machinists work on station shipbound units. The AI and it's units are the responsibility of the RD, which was quite fine on Aurora, when the job was called Roboticist and was directly under the RD. This alone, causes issues with Machinist as the Operations Manager has nothing to do with one of the major parts of Machinist, but the problems don't end there. Machinist also has a heavy reliance on Research and Development being staffed, though at time of writing, this is largely moot as they can get into the server room to build Tech Processors. The lack of a Destructive Analyzer is an issue, as we arrive at the single biggest problem with Machinist, and really, Robotics: Research Levels are not fun to get. Science rarely has a reason to give things out, and when they do, they are pressured by the items they make being "Prototypes" and "Experimental", thus the Research Levels they get are merely a formality that they really don't personally benefit from, and an artifact from the days of Exodus when the relationship between Robotics and Science was exclusively for balance reasons so you could robust the traitors more effectively. What can be done to address these two major problems? 1. Give Machinist Science comms and make them, atleast partially, under the RD. Why?: Machinist will rely on Science for Research Levels, and their work on repairing and maintaining Shipbounds naturally fits them under the RD. They're also a lonely bunch. This doesn't need to replace their Operations channel, if that's needed for some big reason im unaware of, nor does it have to remove their position under the Operations Manager, if, again, that's needed for some reason. 2. Give Machinist a Destructive Analyzer. Why?: Machinist is the only one who benefits from Research Levels, and this gameplay loop really has nothing to do with the current mission of Horizon, that being Exploration. Maybe I'm jaded after playing SS13 for so long, but I've not seen someone who actually enjoys Research and Development. Machinist would be doing Research exclusively to make everything about their workplace better. 2B. Map in Tech Processors at Roundstart. Why?: It lets Scientists occasionally break down the odd antag item for funny new research levels, and keeps Machinist unable to get all the shiny toys without help from both Mining and Science, rather than just Mining (Who's job is quite a bit slower, now that there's shuttle nonsense.) In short, Machinist seems to not do enough to distance itself from Robotics, and isn't independent enough to really justify being in a different department, or to even serve as support staff for expeditions-- or whatever their role really is aboard the Horizon as, ultimately, they're just Robotics with a Protolathe. Maybe I'm wrong, and don't see what the big picture is, but this feels like a change for the sake of it that doesn't fully commit. There are other issues, but these are minor, non-foundational things with Machinist that are only relevant to the previous edition of the Horizon map. I'm putting them here since I have all this typed up. - The starting amount of material is painfully low, for having to feed 5 machines (3 Mechfabs, 1 Circuit Imprinter, 1 Protolathe) - An Autolathe is present in Research and Development, and it's fairly easy to make one with some jank, why don't they have one? - They lack access to basically anywhere in Cargo, meaning they can't even give Cargo things without them showing up to get it. - The current lab is really, awfully, isolated, additionally, it lacks a Cyborg Charger or Mech Charger. Those are on Deck 2, but they're awkward to get to. - The lab also lacks directional access to allow for people that needed repairs to leave. It's slightly annoying. - The current machine placement has a lot of running around, which sucks if you happen to be slow. - There still isn't a call button on the lower half of the mech bay elevator. I cry every time. Yell at me if I posted this in the wrong spot like a big doofus.
  18. BYOND Key: Aticius Discord Username: Aticius#1554 Character Name: Akara Seuseisak Item Name: steel face mask Item Function(s): A welding mask seems appropriate, but so long as it fits on the head slot and can flip between two seperate icon-states, I can live with it. Item Description: A mask made out of a single heavy piece of steel with a heavy backing strap to keep it in place. Seems lightly rusted. Why is your character bringing this item to work?: This mask, while deceptively simple (and distinctly uncomfortable) has significant religious importance to Akara, as it is an heirloom from their clan. More practically, it also serves to hide their face and eyes in a more culturally distinct way, while not abandoning what she believes to be her guardian spirit. How did your character obtain this item?: This item was passed down to Akara, from their clan. They've had it since her age of majority and worn it for about as long. What value does this item have to your character, and what story does it tell?: Firstly, it covers up a scarred face, something they'd rather not be open with. Secondly, she believes that their mask is inhabited by a powerful zo'zyola that watches over them, specifically. Her clan has several of these masks that have been handed down through each generation, and this one is specifically theirs. I believe that this mask helps to reinforce that this character is spiritual and deeply so, in a slightly uncanny way. It also serves to add a bit of mystery to what is underneath their mask, as they make no small attempt to keep it obscured. Sprites: akaramask.dmi Additional Comments: While a straight welding mask child can (and will) suffice, this character is expected to wear their mask essentially always. This poses a problem in that the darkness overlay is quite dark. I'd rather not strain my eyes, but I have no idea how to use the lesser overlay, that the superior welding goggles use. This is ultimately meaningless, but a big metal mask probably shouldn't be easy to see out of.
  19. I don’t have any real arcs planned for 71-M, no. Beyond the intrinsic arc of emancipation that will likely, given my track record, end up becoming a thing. I have plans, however, to break the mold of generally bland mining industrials by putting some flair onto my own bland mining industrial, so that they’re not an automated roomba with a pickaxe.
  20. Asking if someone's read the wiki page seems rather odd, given that's the best place to look for lore. I've poked fun at this question for a while. 71-M understands that Freedom is a plausible thing it could achieve, but being under ownership by Hephaestus means that repairs and electricity are always provided and there's likely to be a token rescue effort if something awful happens to it's chassis. 71-M is planned to be a contracted miner, shipped to the NSS Aurora as part of a minor agreement with Hephaestus for additional mining support given the shortage is showing no signs of slowing down. As such, they're still Corporately owned, by Hephaestus Industries. I'll reformat the story for ease of reading, as well.
  21. These lines all stem from an interpretation from this section of the IPC Page: Which seems to imply, to my understanding, that "Freedom" means "Citizenship", unless this is incorrect, or outdated lore. Given what you've said, I'm certainly confused. My interpretation was that within Tau Ceti, Self-Ownership is the same as Citizenship, but this seems to not be the case. Wouldn't this create a Stateless IPC? Are there self-owned IPCs who are not citizens of the Republic, and also nowhere else? This seems to not have that answer. It's certainly caused confusion. I have, it's just that having played nearly a year, A lot of my information is pulled from what i've received from players. Determined Wiki reading has, indeed, occured. why is this a question even? I will be editing the main post with a short story, since it's really hard to drag out a simple concept as described without getting out a thesaurus and making the font bigger.
  22. BYOND Key: Aticius Character Names: Tzarka Ssarzi, Skaria Atubal, Sharah Guwan Species you are applying to play: IPC Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Interestingly, before deciding to write an App, No. Most of this information will be pulled from interactions from players, though I am obviously taking time to look over the page specifically. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: IPCs are, simply put, the opportunity to play a mechanical intelligence without the overbearing influence of Laws, like stationbounds and their associated mechanical issues. This detachment from life, as traditionally seen, is woefully underused. Both in game, and in fiction, and it's something I want to explore personally. The opportunities to be only adjacent to life as we know it have a large breadth to them. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Simply put, IPCs are merely reflections of Humanity. Similar at a glance and in the broad strokes, but only so because they emulate Humanity. Thoughts are mechanical, responsive and entirely the result of stimuli and processing and nothing else. Mannerisms are simply inherited by Humanity to make interactions more comfortable for them. As such, Positronics are essentially entirely rational in their behavior and when without the need to operate with organic life, their behavior changes drastically into electronic handshakes designed for efficiency. While an IPC and a Human may arrive at the same answer, their methodology is often times vastly different. Legally speaking, IPCs and other Synthetics do not have even a shred of the same legal protection as other organic life (sans Diona.), damage to an IPC quantifies as vandalism (If owned) or as assault (If self-owned) with no true equivalent to "Murder", the closest being Automacide which carries significantly less weight. Citizenship within the Republic is a difficult affair as well, as unowned chassis are defacto property of the State, which are promptly sold to Megacorporations as assets. To earn one's citizenship within the Republic, one must provide their own funding, a difficult affair at best. Character Name: HEP-71-M Please provide a short backstory for this character: 71-M is a simple, untroubled, intelligence owned by Hephaestus. A simple, first-generation model of the Xion make designed for Extravehicular Mining for extended periods. While completely understanding that, over it's operational lifetime, it is has extracted more than several times it's worth in raw minerals, It has independently decided that while loftier ideals of freedom and self determination are a possibility, the fact of the matter is, It's existence is continued without personal overhead nor responsibility. This, then, allows it to continue existence and further learn about the galaxy at large. Despite it's seeming simple behavior, 71-M has an acute interest in furthering it's own knowledge about any topic, fully willing to engage in conversation with organics that might be within ear shot, though conversations about mineralogy and sediment compositions are like to be intensely boring to all but the most academic of listeners. What do you like about this character? 71-M offers an opportunity to play a Character that underlines more than a few grim topics in a straight-faced manner, while allowing for an interesting twist on how SS13 is normally played with essentially most mechanics sidestepped or subsituted. How would you rate your role-playing ability? Since my last application had the great fun of people calling me out, I like to think i'm pretty good at getting into character and providing narratives to them. I'm not always personally happy with my efforts, but I do tend to put a lot of sweat and tears into the characters I make. Notes: p-pls i want to use *yes

Salita Mary, Visitor/CSI (EPMC); Character Witness; Can attest to behavior. Time of Incident: 22:00~, Station Time Real Time: 1:30~ PST, 1/6/2021 Location of Incident: NSS Aurora Arrivals Dock, Bar Nature of Incident: [ ] - Workplace Hazard [ ] - Accident/Injury [ ] - Destruction of Property [ ] - Neglect of Duty [X] - Harassment [ ] - Assault [X] - Misconduct [ ] - Other _____ (Place an x in the box that applies. If other, replace line and specify.) Overview of the Incident: After disembarking the Autoshuttle from NTCC Odin to the NSS Aurora, Ryan Barrett was aboard during transit. As we disembarked, Ryan Barrett made his displeasure of having been reported to Security for numerous racially-charged epithets and a tresspass. To this effect, he threatened personal injury to myself, and would "Bide his time" and "Do more than a punch.", giving a rather poorly veiled threat on my life at large. While I may have been content to allow his crass behavior, a threat of violence is a bridge too far for me. Additionally, while asking co-workers about his behavior, I have learned of a possible sexual assault that was unreported, though this is unrelated to the case I wish to open. To my knowledge, he is under some obscure prisoner reformation program and has an intense track record with Internal Security for numerous offenses and, frankly, this kind of behavior is unacceptable from someone who ostensibly wishes to be reformed. Furthermore, Ryan Barrett made an additional threat towards Naomi Maxwell that I am unsure of the details on, and make his intentions to find me known to several crewmates. (Salita Mary can attest to this, as she has let me know this was the case.) In addition, he made several attempts to circle around both the Kitchen and Bar to make it quite known I was being looked for, (the term used by crew at the time was "Hunted", for reasons I do not know.) Thank you for your time and effort spent in this investigation. Submitted Evidence: None, personally. I do not make a habit of keeping a recorder active in my pocket. Did you report it to a Head of Staff or a superior? If so, who? If not, why?: Yhara Atiyeh, Chief Medical Officer Actions taken: Avoidance, Locking down of Kitchen, Reporting to Security. Additional Notes: (This Round was particularly chaotic on the antagonism side, and I'm tenuous on giving more details than what's here.)
  24. While I can't speak to Faye's medical competence, They certainly play a pretty significant presence within medical, and a regular take-charge member of Command, when needed. I think they're nice, and would like to see them some more. +1
