1. Having of course knowledge of Zeng-Hu's usage of synthetics they've so far also tried to keep their work inside of the Federation to minimize and interaction. That being said Xirmq obviously with knowledge of the Horizon going in knows it makes use of an AI and shipbound synthetics among the SCC and the rest of its companies employment of free or otherwise IPCs. Taking this knowledge into account they're certainly not unprepared but interactions would certainly lean to amiable but cold or when possible avoidance or ignoring. If a synthetic were to offer assistance they'd likely try to avoid it and seek other means of assistance if it was needed. 2. Despite the tendency for Axiori to be more focused towards traditional labor Xirmq's Qrri'Myaq was especially hopeful for them to find a more scientific of research. The theme of most of the gifts presented was to inspire awe in the Universe and space and Xirmq's Qrri'Myaq would present a collection of imagery and data on stars to encapsulate the desire of their study. Xirmq found a deeper resonance of purpose with the freighter model presented and notably chose a different path, but this direction of Xirmq's Qrri'Myaq would still inspire their first field of study: Astronavigation.

BYOND Key: Robotic Potato Character Names: Ozymandias, ISU-Discordance, Mai Nguyen, Irawo Adekeibudo Species you are applying to play: Skrell What color do you plan on making your first alien character: Not sure yet, but a darker color. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?:Yes Why do you wish to play this specific race: I've always had an interest in Skrell lore as well as the general archetypes the Skrell portray in our setting of the longer lived scientifically advanced communal society with a hint of authoritarianism mixed with psionic influences on the people and the interactions that can come from it. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Skrell as a long lived species have a more long term perspective which can lead to seemingly apparent passiveness or lack of concern for short lived issue while long term concerns are given priority and can lead to anxiety. Skrell also have a communal nature that is especially influenced by their psionic nature and the strong influence it has on most of the species. Skrell's importance on bonds and relationships could also be seen different to humans in how some may seem abnormal but not particularly more 'complex'. Character Name: Xirmq Vix-Loxi Please provide a short backstory for this character Xirmq Vix being born on Qerr'Malic in 2206 was celebrated by a Quya of four. Though, as much was in the time of reconstruction it was not an ideal environment, this Quya was more of necessity, more akin to a group of especially close Qu'Kaax. While their birth was celebrated it was unquestionable that the stepping stone of Qerrbalak and the nascent Second Federation led to their relative loneliness and lack of peers as with many born during this time. Being raised at a time where the aftermath of Glorsh could still be felt Vix's family worked mostly as manual laborers during the reconstruction in hopes their child could focus on the pursuit of knowledge and during their Scuttling Schooling Vix was particularly sheltered and pushed towards study. As Vix moved towards the time of their Odurserr the restoration of much of Nralakk had enamored Vix who during the ceremony would burn a model freighter symbolizing their interest of travel of the stars. Following in to their Reefgardening Vix took an interest in the history of Qerr'Malic as a mining colony and its evolution to tourist destination and way point to the stars and its place in the reconnecting Federation. These interest would inspire Vix to study Astronavigation, Interplanetary Logistics and Supply, and Data Science which they would find themself completing their third degree in accordance with the hopes of Vix's family at 83. Vix would find their way to Nralakk Logistics which they found great pleasure in work on any vessel or fledgling outpost they could working positions from data analyst, logistics officer for smaller vessels, navigator, small craft pilot, and even working as a deck hand, Vix would be eager to please. While the work often wasn't a pursuit of the mind as Vix's family had hoped for Vix had grown especially proud with their work and its benefit to the Federation. As years came on and the Federation found stability and new life Vix found themself despite wariness of most aliens drawn to Zeng-Hu and extended their own trust in keeping with the Federation. In a leap Vix has taken leave of Nralakk Logistics to work within Zeng-Hu's own Federation based logistics division in the last 40 years. Vix has found some difficulty working with the influences from without the Federation but has found success in Zeng-Hu due to their experience with the Federation's supply chain. Vix's connection to the Federation and Qerr'Malic is deep but with Zeng-Hu's incorporation into the SCC Vix's nature to explore new places and challenges has led them to vie for a position as Operations Manager on the SCCV Horizon despite their limited experience outside the Federation. Tidbits: Vix is an Axiori, receiver leaning, a higher than average psionic proficiency but not enough to warrant attention as a potential Starkeeper or Sromkala, and a slight favor to over-sleeping. Vix took on the suffix of -Loxi from a skrell at Nralakk Logistics who worked reestablishing the arcology Vix came up in. They saw them as an example of the kind of impact someone could have in the world that wasn't particularly a traditional scientific or research field. Vix has a SCS of 6.21: they've been involved in multiple Quyas but none that managed to reproduce, they're supportive of the Federation and take pride in their past work directly to it, follows Qeblak, and hasn't made any particular scientific contribution to the Federation. Vix is generally outgoing and seeking of approval due to their relative loneliness and small extended family of the already small Quya they were born from. Despite Vix's tendency to roam they often try to return to Qerr'Malic and generally see not to be away for longer than a decade. They have some concern for the proliferation of Gasriders and its possible future effects and have a relatively positive opinion of NanoTrasen's work in the Economic Zone with a somewhat ambivalent view of Idris'. Vix has concern for C'thur, seeing a synthetic analog that the Federation has begun to take some reliance on in a short time with the Lii'dra being an example of how dangerous they could be. Vix's thoughts on Diona are generally respectful due to their proven trustworthiness and shared love for knowledge. Otherwise, Vix is hopeful but wary of the other species especially influenced by Tajara and Humanity's use of AI. What do you like about this character? I like the idea of playing a highly Federation invested Skrell who hasn't had any challenge to their ideals before in a more foreign environment. Despite being a Zeng-Hu employee for the last few decades I'd like to play them as as still having very limited interactions with humans and most other aliens outside of the Federation. The idea that while they're cautious of most aliens they're also deeply a people person with a drive as a people-pleaser which might open them up to act despite their caution. This is more skrell in general not but I like the idea of roleplaying as a longer lived character, and more on the character level one who's lived through the aftermath of the Glorsh and came up in a time of struggle but also lived on to rebuilding the Federation and how their experience might inform character interactions. How would you rate your role-playing ability? 1 Notes:hi

Make the Executive Officer the ship's second in command.
Robotic Potato replied to Kintsugi's topic in Suggestions & Ideas
I do genuinely think it would be good for one of these options to happen. A change in title to something like "Bridge Officer" or "Chief Bridge Officer" to reflect what they'll usually be doing or making them a true second in command. I suppose I'll say I think I trust most head players to use the role well and to still rely on the other heads at appropriate times instead of super seceding them if not for that why even have a "whitelist". Should they do so anyways though we already have a system of command voting together to make Captain level decisions which could perhaps nullify their position as Second in Command, or the Captain themselves could obviously remove that authority via petition from Command members. -
Reporting Personnel: Ozymandias Job Title of Reporting Personnel: Consular Officer Game ID: (Round after was cmk-aH31) Personnel Involved: Artemis Grey, Head of Security: Offender Frederick Zhao, Chief Engineer: Offender Zelda Zamora, Acting Captain: Offender Keala Nalika, Hangar Technician: Witness Malika Al-Kandari, Hangar Technician: Witness Aisha Hrakra, Chief Medical Officer: Witness Secondary Witnesses: Claire Tarson, Hangar Techician, was around Keala Nalika in many of the interactions and seemed to be a confidant. Time of Incident: 02:00(roughly) Real Time: 09:30PM(roughly)GMT-6 02/10/23 Location of Incident: Consular's Office Nature of Incident: [ ] - Workplace Hazard [ ] - Accident/Injury [ ] - Destruction of Property [X] - Neglect of Duty [X] - Harassment [ ] - Assault [X] - Misconduct [ ] - Other _____ (Place an x in the box that applies. If other, replace line and specify.) Overview of the Incident: This all roughly began after I came aboard, prepared some things in my office, and then proceeded to Operations as the bar was not open. I had come down with the intention to buy with my own funds gold, for decorative purposes as well as alcohol for personal enjoyment and business. While down there I had been enjoying a conversation with Malika Al-Kandari, the Techician handling my order Keala Nalika appeared from below in the supply area. They mumbled something to Malika to which they made a comment about the "mob" at which Keala Nalika seemed to become nervous and attempted to explain it away. I mostly ignored these offensive comments, including one where they stated my speaking of servants was they, "didn't go near these things", "things" being in reference to myself. What spurred the later heart of the incident was when I while still there enjoying a conversation with Malika I motioned over Keala Nalika as I had witnessed them whispering comments about myself which I intended to mischievously comment that I could hear what they were saying about me. They declined to come closer for me to tell them so, therefore I respected their boundaries and further mischievously commented, "I guess you'll be missing out." Later, what I believe may have been a contributing factor to why the Offenders chose to go beyond what was called for and attempt to strip my immunity as a Consular, and have me cuffed, paraded through the halls, and made an example of for a "Low Level Infraction" was a minor "disagreement" if it could even be called one. Command was making a vote on a somewhat sensitive issue to which I replied that I had always wished to watch and acknowledge that it wasn't particularly helpful to the conversation. Immediately I was told I may not be present and that as well the Chief Engineer objected "strongly" to me being allowed to do so. There was some minor back and forth where I stated I wouldn't need to be present to watch to which I was denied again, and I stated I need not have them facilitate it. While this interaction continued the Chief Engineer Zhao immediately presumed to encourage an injunction to stop me from being involved at all. Seeing that tempers had flared I stated that I would welcome any injunction and punishment for wrong doing on my part. To which Chief Engineer Zhao stated that there would need to be no evidence at all of wrongdoing to stop a "disruptive action" to which I asked how my observation would even be a disruptive act. Seeing that reason wouldn't be seen though I chose to allow the topic of conversation to die. Notably in reference to the sensitive decision though I did make a comment later where I stated while it may seem cruel I personally endorsed it and thought it was the most efficient and profitable decision. To which I was once again threatened with an injunction for my comments. Happening somewhat simultaneously: I had opened a message chain to Keala Nalika where I playfully messaged: "That little tid bit I wanted to share with you, darling: is that it's rather trivial to have your auditory receptors tuned to hear even the lowest whisper. Interesting isn't it?" to which I was responded with, "what", and I clarified, "It's just what I wanted to share with you earlier. Knowing now that you have issues with proximity I just thought I'd send it off to you in a simple message." in reference to my assumption they had an issue with personal space. From there they replied "i think this is a misunderstanding", in my confusion I considered I perhaps messaged the wrong person, or another person was in possession of their PDA to which I responded, "How is that? Are you not Keala Nalika, Age 19? Next of kin Malana Nalika?". After that they replied with something but I actually hadn't read it due to them arriving at my office shortly after. They began to rave about how on Silversun they liked the Golden Deep and some such other comments, and asked if we were "cool" in my confusion I mentioned I noticed they seemed nervous and my message earlier was just something I was sharing with them. They replied then that they were harmless and that they had presumed I would "throw them in a river" and that a Dominian had told them I might do that. This comment was somewhat audacious to me and I asked "Why would I do that?" and went further on to say "Have you done something worth throwing you in the river for?" as to highlight how absurd such an accusation was. He further commented on my "supposed" affiliation with the "mob", continued to ask if he was alright to leave which I informed him he was always free to go and that I hadn't even called him over, I should note he was OUTSIDE my office speaking to myself who had been presiding inside since the start. I did prompt them to comment on their earlier comments about me such as calling myself a "thing" and how they had done so in Solarian Common which they presumed I did not speak which they attempted to make up excuses, call over a friend who had been in a few interactions(Clarie Tarson), and even pull aside someone who I must assume they may have not even known to testify that they loved "robots" like myself to which I told them I believed was an offensive way of referring to myself. At roughly this point the Chief Engineer passed: Frederick Zhao, and exactly at that time as well a false radiation storm was reported. He referred to the Chief Engineer as a friend and they departed, I even encouraged their departure as I saw they were uncomfortable and this was a good chance for me to allow them to leave. Now, while I can't be certain if Chief Engineer Zhao was the one who stated I'd have him thrown in a river, from here I must suppose while they went to shelter from the radiation it is most likely that Chief Engineer Zhao was shown the messages and crafted some narrative of me making a "threat". I say that as suddenly, almost the entire security department arrived outside my office and then the Head of Security prompted a vote for Acting Captainship they attempted to place on Zelda Zamora, to which everyone aside from Chief Medical Officer Hrakra voted in the affirmative to. I had presumed they had all arrived in pursuit of my comments and to "enforce and injunction" which had never been clarified to have even been placed and what the terms were. Soon did I come to find out it was due to "threats" I had placed against Keala Nalika, it was not clarified until the Chief Engineer stated I placed some kind of "threat" making use of personnel records and stated they read it themself which makes me believe this was likely begun by Chief Engineer Zhao, in fact I recall overhearing on the radio Keala Nalika did not even know why I was being arrested as they implied it was possible I "murdered someone", unless they were feigning ignorance. I tried multiple times to clarify there was no threat and by this time the Head of Security: Artemis Grey entered my office with an officer, said officer pulling out their stunbaton and activating it. I tried my best to explain how there was no threat but it appears they had already made their assumptions without even speaking to me and insisted that the now Acting Captain revoke the protection of my office. I should note at this point they insisted I be cuffed and dragged down to the Brig, even despite the fact I was told my charge was "Minor Assault" a low level infraction which regulation states I am to be served a fine for and never held in the Brig. I, understanding their knowledge may be somewhat lacking, even offered to go to the Brig of my own free volition without cuffs and simply follow them down there. They audaciously said they wouldn't want to be punched by a "machine" like myself, attempting to demean my status as a person and refer to me just as machinery. I should the fact I as a Consular, I would never even think to harm the crew and I pointed such out; even referencing how I wouldn't even need to punch someone due to my provided weapon which I further mentioned I had no intention to use. I asked the Acting Captain if they really thought this was an apt course of action: to revoke my immunity without need and have me arrested for a charge by Standard Operating Procedure I should only be fined for, to which they replied "Very". Submitted Evidence: N/A Would you like to be personally interviewed?: [X] - Yes [ ] - No Did you report it to a Head of Staff or a superior? If so, who? If not, why?: No, I had wished to inform my Consulate as well as SCC Oversight but was not given the chance. Actions taken: N/A Additional Notes: While I may have Keala Nalika in a somewhat negative light I should hope that they face no repercussions, they are as much a victim as I. Though differently, they are a victim of bigotry that seems to have been propagated aboard the Horizon by other members of the crew, from their comment to me I must presume Dominian in nature. It is my hope some resolution can also be sought for this horrible injustice to the synthetic personnel onboard.

Expansion of Review Requests/IC Punishment System
Robotic Potato replied to Robotic Potato's topic in Policy Suggestions
As this is only my suggest these questions would be best for the person who would actually implement it. Personally if I were the one doing it I'd say antag interactions are handle exactly how they are in IRs, as I'm not personally CCIA I'm blurry on that. Appeal/removal would be a system CCIA would also setup but I imagine the most simple way would be to escalate it to an IR for false/improper punishment; you can fight it if you think it's wrong but at the same time if you're in the wrong there's a chance it backfires. I mentioned this bit, the current system only actually leaves these lasting marks on extended and is at most always be just an arbitrarily set fine and the record. This system like I said would be mainly for flavor so fitting IC punishments when just 5 minutes or 500 credits isn't enough to get through to someone or fitting/or wouldn't stay due to the round type despite no antag influence; by using the system you're saying this is a serious enough problem that occurred in normal circumstances and couldn't be handled just with the very limited means in-round. -

Robotic Potato replied to Robotic Potato's topic in Policy Suggestions
My thought is they're management and should have some level of managerial like punishment not related just to that round. CCIA would still investigate these reports, but hopefully a much simpler investigation that's expedited in relation to their scope and the punishments that could come from this. Like I said no PKing or anything. I also 110% understand your distrust for some command players, that's why my suggestion would still have minor CCIA involvement so a Head doesn't just Discord DM someone and go "Yeah you can't play your character for the rest of the month." I don't think we need to have everyone re-apply we simply update standards like when we required everyone to link their Byond account, didn't need to re-apply but you could lose your whitelist for not doing it just like you'll be expected not to abuse this and if you do well, bye-bye whitelist etc. If we don't trust our whitelisted players to be able to uphold such a simple standard why do we even have a whitelist you know? -
Expansion of Review Requests/IC Punishment System
Robotic Potato replied to Robotic Potato's topic in Policy Suggestions
Personally, if we had no relay impact I think it would be a bit detrimental but I wouldn't cry if it didn't come as it was just a suggestion as the relay always seemed like completely disconnected from the reality of our setting at times. I understand your concern, yes, I often try to play more professional characters with my suit being the obvious standout. That being said there are other people, and I hope this could encourage more people to be interested in making characters who are more authoritative(I'm not saying dictatorial); my hopes for this system is that everything would mostly be flavor like I said "one week unpaid safety course" might not mean you can't play for a week but you complain how you're getting less hours/paid less for some dumb course. I should also note I'm a big proponent of handling things in round and try to avoid things like IR, etc and I'm hoping when your Boss is able to actual promise you some real consequences for your actions, that being said hopefully the person in question has a recourse like I said raising it to an IR to sort it out if they think they've been wrong. It's simply by nature of us being a roleplaying game MOST people want to play the fun boss so they can make more friends so the function might not get much use though I suppose I also would hope people understand you can be a good boss and strict at the same time and this could encourage people to simply be more considerate of their character's actions. Also just a quick note, I don't mean this in a rude way but I am somewhat apathetic the issue. It was an IC conflict based on OOC confusion; you got it cleared up so I didn't think there was any need to say anymore about it I've got no issue separating IC an OOC so I'm not upset or anything. My biggest worry when it comes to this system is not that it would be rarely used to punish someone, in fact I would be more pleased it's rarely used but it a tool which Heads can use to simply not seem flaccid. I'm more worried about this system being used too much and it becomes the main tool, in my ideal world a Head tries to solve something in round with stern talkings, minor punishments, and then would elevate to this without jumping to an IR. It is my hope those that our whitelisted players would have the restraint to use this sparingly and if they couldn't their whitelist could be evaluated or their character punished. -

I'll basically be repeating myself but I don't get how it kills any fun or is boring? The relay is a shitshow, well that's fine, you can still say whatever you want. You probably shouldn't but if you talk about how "If you saw a catbeast on station you'd stomp them down." or something there is a chance someone might see that and get onto you about it. The "NanoTrasen equivalent of Discord" is an official SCC-relay only employees and affiliated merchants can use where you're required to use the full name on your ID, CCIA probably isn't prowling for wrong think but if some Head says "Hey one of my employees was telling one of our vaurca they're a worthless bug they'd crush." they might look into it. If you still want full freedom if the full thing was added you can just go to one of the other relay channels and xX-N0TFaye-xX can tell xX-TotallyNotRoboticPotato-// the reasons why NT should burn to the ground and link a manifesto. The relay is meant to be apart of our universe now, it's not disconnected anymore so what you say on it has bearing on your character and such. Basically if this were to apply to the relay it would just require anyone who wants to say something possible controversial or constantly get into fights to use common sense to either not say it, say it behind a username in another channel, or maybe your character is hot tempered and just goes off and gets in trouble/doesn't. -
Expansion of Review Requests/IC Punishment System
Robotic Potato replied to Robotic Potato's topic in Policy Suggestions
I'm not sure why you wouldn't want to see it on the relay particularly; we wanted the relay to be official so it only makes sense we treat it as apart of the setting just as much as the server. If you're worried about saying something that could get you in trouble on the SCC relay there's the non-SCC channels, personal messages, non-affiliated channels, of course there's the relay channels which are in-character places and not text channels. You could say this could actually also encourage the use of more channels like how the tau ceti chat is dead which I should note is a channel you don't need to use a real name in. If you want a parallel plenty of people get in trouble for things they say on social media today with their work so when you're on some public visible thing if your character cares about not getting in trouble they could just moderate what they say and let loose anywhere else? If you're worried about Heads making these about petty things I imagine CCIA could use their best judgment in seeing your character saying once, "I dunno if I like my job," isn't something to punish you over and would likely backfire. -
To start, TLDR at the bottom and the ideal process of events in the spoiler above it. For a long time there's been a horrible IC stigma of the Aurora being the absolute worst assignment you can get because, 'all the rejects and bad employees go there'; why is this? There's no real system in place to give actual consequences to the actions what people do. You can be the worst employee every single round and do things that would get a normal person fired and why? Well, right now there's only two real routes for any sort of punishment that isn't contained to a single round one is an IR: this is usually for highly serious matters that require an in-depth investigation and two: Review Request, which entirely rely on records and a documented history of behavior. To my point, characters consistently do things that should honestly net them serious punishments that also aren't important enough for IRs or aren't documented to allow a review request. I'd like to propose a system where Heads of Staff, people we've whitelisted to play the part of the boss, are actually granted authority outside of just telling you what to do in the moment. Do you see two Engineers always playing catch right beside the Tesla? Are your employees constantly fighting or posting inappropriate things on our now canon work relay? Well, you fill out this dandy form. From here instead of CCIA having to launch a big investigation we would ideally trust the word of our whitelisted players(at least enough to trust they're not entirely making the interaction up), CCIA would then review the evidence if available or at least the description of events and deem it valid/invalid or if there was an antag interaction that would invalidate it then CCIA finds some sort of fitting punishment. The player is informed of this punishment, an actual consequence for something that might otherwise be ignored, and can contest it and elevate the matter to an IR if necessary. If this system is abused somehow it could lead to IC or OOC punishments as in your Head character being demoted/fired/reprimanded or a loss of whitelist. In effect this would make Heads of Staff not end up effectively acting like that supervisor who says you really should do something but can't really do anything about it, stopping you from working for a round, or threatening a real punishment they can really do nothing about aside from file an IR just like anyone else. Right now your boss has effectively no bearing on any actual punishment that could effect your character/career and people act like it. Hopefully, this would encourage people to act a least a little professionally or not counter-intuitive to keep a job because there's actually a threat there could be consequences for their actions. This wouldn't particularly limit or hinder roleplay to any degree: if you wanna goof off be sure your boss doesn't see it, if you wanna defy your boss don't get caught, maybe a different Head is tolerate of it and you get away with it then, if you're caught maybe you weasel your way out of punishment, or you know just do what you're being told even if you don't want/disagree. Heads of Staff should be encouraged to handle things in-round but there are also times when something simple won't do and at the same time an IR is too much. In the spoiler I'll just give my ideal view of how this process might go: TLDR; This gives Heads an effect your character and job outside of just the round without having to go through an IR which would ideally be reserved for major issues. This encourages people to take Heads seriously, not act childishly while they're at what is suppose to be consider a high-end research station, but still allows you to act however you want though there may be consequences. This system still relies on CCIA to evaluate a much more basic report for smaller incidents so Heads aren't just making up shit and abusing the system. If it's abused the whitelisted player or their character is punished based on said abuse and context. The person(s) who the report is targeted at can also contest the punishment, make a player report for abuse, or otherwise escalate the situation to an IR.

Robotic Potato's IPC Application
Robotic Potato replied to Robotic Potato's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Thank you, and I absolutely understand. I touched on the logical factor and self-preservation a bit but didn't write about it heavily because I didn't think I could say much unique about it. Furthermore, that's how I meant it when I said it wasn't dissimilar, in normal interaction that is. The difference may not be entirely noticeable given positronics are based on the human brain and would logically develop similarly barring the overridingly logical influence of their inorganic nature, and actions that otherwise are critical or other social factors could entirely change if the IPC decided it would be more logical to act entirely differently or against its social interests where a human wouldn't. -
Robotic Potato's IPC Application
Robotic Potato replied to Robotic Potato's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Good question, specifically I included the time on Sidirourgeío between it being on Burzsia to the Aurora. A typical Burzsian IPC upon being approached for small talk probably wouldn't be on Burzsia to begin with due to how the local workers and Star-Men are happy to treat IPCs just as tools and know treating them as people or equals could lead to them developing undesirable behavior. I thought it was pretty necessary for HIRO to have been away from Burzsia for a little longer and unable to receive the Burszian Method so that it wouldn't just be entirely like talking to a brick walk. If asked, "How's the weather?", it'd probably respond normally and tell him about the station's atmosphere given that's a normal question that could effect work, especially on Burzsia where the weather is harsh. That being said HIRO probably would continue after that question to ask for tasking, and if the supervisor were intent on just chit-chatting HIRO might begin to question them on why they were asking these random things and how they relate to work. This line of questioning might give HIRO the opportunity to learn about the concept of small talk. If HIRO were left on station alone it'd probably just continue about its tasks until it had nothing to do, at that point it'd try to seek out a supervisor for more tasks, and barring that HIRO likely would simply preserve its charge and rest until its required for work next. Seems pretty simplistic now but that is a bit of the point; hopefully as HIRO interacts with people it'll begin to learn about concepts like doing things in your free time and might to begin to emulate and draw interest in them. I stated at the end of the backstory HIRO has a desire to grow, but it's still not particularly strong and will need some prompting: the current stage just basically being to try to understand concepts that are higher than working. Also just touching on that little resentment bit it probably won't immediately play any factor, but perhaps as HIRO does develop it might begin coming out some as it begins to learn about the world outside of just Burzsia. Otherwise, it just has a small inkling of not wanting to be reconditioned from its original personality template, but no particular resistance right now if it were to be dragged off tomorrow back to Burzsia. -
BYOND Key: Robotic Potato Character Names: Stella Palmero, Yen Nguyen, Adler Abt. I have a few others but I don't play them often. Species you are applying to play: IPC Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: I think IPC are honestly the race that has the widest range of roleplaying potential. While positronics are modelled to mimic humans that's still based on the influence it receives and how the IPC interprets it. This would ideally lead to almost every IPC being entirely different aside from the less developed ones. Furthermore, upon gaining freedom and IPC can branch out even further in how it acts and could act alien, inhuman, or human-like as possible. Naturally, IPCs with their widespread nature it allows them to draw on most cultures in our universe along with their exclusive ones. Finally, I'm generally interested with the themes of synthetic life in relation to humanity which is even further blown up when you throw alien life and culture in. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: One of the things I pondered when writing this section was on how IPCs are treated by humanity and other organic life. That being said I actually think that isn't really much different than playing a human: depending on your culture a human could be considered more or less than IPCs or other life. Aurora's lore has all of these conflicting cultures and I'd say to tunnel vision on IPCs being unique in their position as being considered less than other life is small-minded. Eridani and Dregs: pretty much considered subhuman labor. Dominia and Ma'zals: Perhaps not as poignant but I'm sure there are many nobles who'd see Ma'zals like sub-human barbarians of old. It's historical and common in fiction for humans to even treat their fellow humans exactly like IPCs in the same measure if not somewhat exaggerated. While the treatment of IPCs, angelic by Trinary Perfection or abominable by Dominia, is a big part of how IPCs can act I believe the real differences come in their thought process. Starting life with a limited personality if provided by their designer and the intelligence of a professional in their field would obviously cause the formative years of an IPC to be highly different compared to a human child. On a similar note, I imagine as an IPC's "personality" emerges it could even lead to a struggle between their emerging personality and what they've been made to do, though even that draws similarities to a human having overbearing parents who'd prefer you act in a certain way and get a specific job according to their plans. Furthermore, I think while both of the factors I discussed before this probably highly impact an IPCs in comparison to a human I believe the most unique observation I could add would be that an IPC's life is quantified. If an IPC could truly be said to have the ability to gain emotions I believe it could severely damage that IPC's self worth to know the actual credit amount of its very existence which would effect its "life" in regards to its directive of self-preservation. Finally, I suppose the actual most concrete difference when playing an IPC is its predisposition to logic over "emotion" at all times; I could elaborate on this but it's really such a simple concept which has probably been said a hundred times over I don't think I could add anything of substance to the discussion of how a being which acts logically at all times could impact how the character would interact with others. If you'd like me to elaborate though please prompt me with feedback. Character Name:HIRO M.348 Please provide a short backstory for this character: Manufactured on the HPS Sidirourgeío, Hephaestus PosItronic ROboticist Model 348 was prepared for service on Burszia where it would probably never be given the opportunity to grow or learn outside of its predetermined use. What might be considered a horrifying thought was instead enshrouded and forgotten in the Burzsian Method's brutally efficient way to keep their tools just as tools. For years HIRO M.348 served as just another tool, without much of a life other than servitude while bleak glimmers of silent resentment did form and were kept suppressed due to the effectiveness of Hephaestus' tool to keep its machines in line HIRO M.348 never considered what more there could be. Despite HIRO M.348's essential position on Burszia as a roboticist in keeping its fellow units operational it was sent back to where it was first created on the Sidirourgeío, to meet the demand for synthetic labor to keep the stations growing population of synthetic laborers functioning. Now free of the Burzsian Method, HIRO M.348 was granted the opportunity for growth beyond a tool while it could interact with some of the more "willful" positronics, with humans who weren't bound by the Burzsian way of life. Soon though, assignments changed once again, this time Hephaestus would loan its machine to its SCC partner: NanoTrasen, the NSS Aurora. Even now, HIRO is still highly underdeveloped when it comes to interacting with people as anything more than a tool, but in its short freedom it has gained some inquisitiveness and desire to grow for however long it's granted the opportunity away from Burzsia. What do you like about this character? Firstly I'm gleeful to play a character from Burszia as I feel it's horribly underrepresented right now; with this character I would be granted the ability to explore some of the darker aspects of positronic servitude you pretty much just don't see on the Aurora. Sure you may hear preaching of its evil which can easily ring hollow in Tau Ceti even though Tau Ceti is canonically only really meant to be a lesser evil to the usual state of IPCs you'd probably not be able to tell based on how a lot of IPC characters act. I would understand criticism that, yes, this character would be lacking in personality initially and maybe not be horribly suitable to show off m All that being said though I personally want to experience the interactions people might have while being faced with the reality of my character and see how the character evolves through its interactions with others. How would you rate your role-playing ability? Simply Godlike. Notes: I'm told I actually already play a really good shell on Aurora. Also I'm probably just good at roleplaying and not godlike.

BYOND key: Robotic Potato Character names: Stella Palmero - Warden Ada Keita - Priest Adler Abt - Quartermaster (Relatively New) Ward Halleck - Paramedic (Haven't really play him much recently) How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Since about January of this year. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: Mainly I want this whitelist due to my interest in Consular Officer/Corp Rep. I feel like both roles have a lot of potential for characters with a bit more unique goals and roleplay opportunities. That being said I do have an interest in the Head of Staff part as well, though I'm unsure if I have much intention to play it during my trial. Why did you come to Aurora?: I came to Aurora mainly after being introduced to a few lore elements which I really though made the setting unique. Personally I think the setting of the Aurora its self is a bit boring, but the universe greatly interests me. I feel there's not a lot of retreading and there's lot of cultures which have interesting perspectives which also have ample opportunity for conflict and interaction with each other. Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Yes. Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they? Aside from a sort of verbal warning once regarding going easier on some Mercs who had been holding Medbay hostage and killed personnel; yes I did have one warning which I contested and was removed. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: I believe roleplay is a sort of state of mind; in which you put yourself in the perspective of another person/character, taking into account every factor of them to attempt to emulate how they might really act. Roleplaying isn't making a cool character, it's interaction. You can write up a cool profile all day, but what it really comes down to is putting yourself in that character's headspace and being able competently portray them. In all aspects, not just being a likable, but understanding flaws and prejudices a character would reasonably form. Roleplaying is not winning or losing, it's the interactions you have with the world and other players. Of course those this must all also be juggled with the fact this is still a game and taken into account. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: The OOC purpose of a Head of Staff I see it to attempt to embody what is widely seen ideal for a department, and to help control of the course of your department not just in the IC sense but to shape the experience of everyone playing under you into something unique to yourself, and of course provide experience to other players in your department. As a Head of Staff you're one of the major factors which controls a sizable amount of player's experience almost similar to an antag. (Because you want to grief everyone of course.) Really though, as a Head of Staff you set the tone for the department in your round, depending on your choices someone may do something entirely different, or new than their normal experience. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: The OOC responsibilities of a Head of Staff are very similar to its purpose as I see it. As a Head of Staff it's your duty to be able to competently perform most duties in your department, not to be able to do them all, but to act as a guide to the players below you. A Head of Staff must also try to be inclusive to every player; now before you mistake my wording that is to say: of course character differences are a thing. For clarity, as a Head of Staff you should be able to fluidly interact, roleplay that is to say, with everyone in your department and beyond. Going back to my earlier assertion that as a Head of Staff you should provide a unique environment that's not to say every round has to be special but it has to have your own charm which you share with everyone. Could you give us the gist of what is currently happening in Tau ceti and how it affected your character and their career? I'm going to style this in sort of how my character sees the current events in Tau Ceti then a straight regurgitation of what's happening because I'm dumb. Currently, Tau Ceti is on the edge of crisis. A Republic founded on the principles of freedom, finds its self strangled by what uplifted it once. Now, with the strain on the flow of the phoron which has elevated it has now become its crux, and with this old enemies now refocus their attention on the once burgeoning republic. It remains to be seen if it can hold from not only its internal strife, but the newly intensified external pressure from the malefactors who wish to exploit this drying oasis. Namely, the threat of Sol imperialist, which were once held back by the flow of the live giving substance. It is for this reason I have been assigned the prestigious duty as a Consular Officer of the Coalition to Nanotrasen, particularly the NSS Aurora. Noted to be a hotbed of many a rising conflict, it is a microcosm of the Republic: a melting pot spiced not only with its own employees which vary widely in their background, but contractors which vary even more widely in their agendas and motive. Here I am honored to showcase and nurture all of the finest cadres which have lent their manpower to this fledgling Republic, and the unity and freedom brought by the Coalition. Here it is my duty to show the Republic and its benefactor how strong it could be with Gadpathur, that we are not as different as it may seem; that we have faced similar adversity. This duty to Gadpathur brings me pleasure which can not be matched by anything else: to show all we will not be forgotten or martyred, that Gadpathur's people will not be overcame once more. What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted? Consular Officer Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking.: Yen Nguyen - Coalition of Colonies Consular Officer Adler Abt - Head of Personnel (May not immediately move him.) How would you rate your own roleplaying?: I could 'inflate' myself all day about my own roleplay but I'd rather you take it to my DMs. Really though, I'd rate myself as competent but I don't put much stock in that. I'd much prefer to be rated on how others see it.(AKA the point of this app.) Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action? Yes. Have you familiarize yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles? Yes. Extra notes: N/A
