  1. Mutualist Forces Intensify Attacks on Kirinyagan City-State NGAI, KIRINYAGA (GST) - As the Elyran expeditionary forces on the contested frontier world of Kirinyaga continue to dislodge the Frontier Mutual Defense Union from the facilities they captured several weeks ago, the mysterious militant group has responded by drawing the Elyran-aligned city-state of Ngai into the fray. While the General Al-Hamid Brigade has seen considerable success in firefights with the Mutualists, these open confrontations have become increasingly rare as the FMDU has shifted to an entirely hit-and-run strategy; many small units have taken to sabotaging infrastructure within Ngai city limits and engaging Elyran forces whenever they’re even remotely vulnerable, and the cumulative damage inflicted by these attacks has slowly begun to undermine the ability of the Elyrans to wage their counteroffensive. This change of course has greatly changed the dynamic on the ground – whereas previously Mutualist attacks had been limited to Kirinyaga Economic Concern facilities and personnel, soldiers of the Ngai Armed Constabulary have found themselves forced to respond to these violent incursions, and a number of firefights have taken place between the Mutualists and the city-state’s constables. While they have yet to actively target Ngai’s civilian population or its military forces, outlying districts that have been host to Elyran forces or their supply lines have been considerably damaged by the fighting at this time, and the death toll among locals caught in the crossfire and constables responding to these attacks continues to climb. Further exacerbating the situation for the Elyrans is the reported frustration among the KEC expeditionary force’s leadership with the difficulty of locating the Mutualist base of operations, with sources within the flotilla indicating that the Elyran intelligence ships in orbit have begun a brute-force mass survey of the surface in the hopes of finally finding the heart of the armed group’s presence on the planet. Compounding these frustrations is the continued lack of any valuable prisoners taken by the expeditionary forces; while a number of junior volunteers and mercenary hires have been taken, experienced or high-ranking Mutualist prisoners have been absent entirely, and there have been alleged reports of FMDU fighters going so far as to commit suicide when faced with imminent capture. As a consequence of these factors and in light of the increasing vulnerability of Ngai to Mutualist attack, the KEC has resorted to using small craft from the Elyran Armed Forces flotilla in orbit for close air support. In particular, Jezail-class gunships have become ubiquitous in the city-state’s airspace, with a number of local videos uploaded to the extranet depicting strafing runs and rocket barrages against FMDU incursions. A video attached to the article shows a stout-looking shuttle buzzing low and fast above the ground. After a few moments of the camera following its movement, the shuttle becomes enveloped in a cloud of smoke and belches out the thum-thum-thum sound of several rockets being fired off into the distance. Trailing exhaust plumes trace the arc of the barrage into the ground, and the rockets explode with a distant popping noise into a thick fog of black smoke and debris. The camera zooms back out and shifts back to the ground near the cameraman before finally coming to focus on a woman in the khaki uniform of a Kirinyagan armed constable, a rifle slung over her shoulder. She looks at the camera and gives it a shrug, unspeaking, before the clip ends. While this tactical shift has allowed the Kirinyaga Economic Concern to limit the damage these Mutualist attacks inflict against their forces or their allies, it has come at the cost of consternation from the other city-states of New Zanzibar and Shungwaya. In particular, the latter has issued a blistering condemnation of the involvement of EAF strike craft in the fighting, and a demand for the Elyran navy to cease their surface activities immediately. As the fighting continues, only time will tell if this escalation will turn the tide against the mysterious militant group, or if the situation will only continue to deteriorate from here. 2. Elyran Expeditionary Force Clashes With Mutualist Militants NGAI, KIRINYAGA (GST) - After arriving on Kirinyaga and spending several days setting up a forward operating base on the outskirts of the city-state of Ngai, forces under the command of the Kirinyaga Economic Concern have begun efforts to retake lost facilities from the control of the Frontier Mutual Defense Union. Using the General Al-Hamid Brigade as their primary offensive force and contractors from Jackal Incorporated to hold recaptured ground, the Elyran expedition has experienced several early successes against the Mutualist forces, but have allegedly experienced much difficulty in locating the bulk of the mysterious militant group’s fighting strength — or in engaging a substantial force altogether. Instead, the Mutualists appear to have shifted to a decentralized strategy, in which small cells engage in ambushes or hit-and-run attacks against Elyran convoys or combatants on the march. While initial intelligence reports indicated a large presence at the captured KEC headquarters in the Ngai region, volunteers from the General’s Brigade who were sent to assault the facility found only a motley force of seemingly low-ranking fighters, many of them recruited directly from NCPs captured during the initial attack or found to be mercenaries supposedly hired on behalf of the group’s shadowy leader, Commander Hugo. Adding to the mystery of where the Mutualists are operating out of are indications that a large temporary command post had been set up in the headquarters, before being disassembled and secretly relocated — leaving behind only a mountain of burnt documents and destroyed personal items. Indeed, strict information discipline seems to be a recurring aspect of Mutualist doctrine, with many reports by Economic Concern volunteers stating that recaptured facilities were awash with documents and data storage units that had been destroyed before their arrival. Though the strategy of seemingly ceding ground to Elyran forces is proving successful at preserving the strength of the Mutualists for the time being, analysts with the XNS have opined that such tactics are not sustainable in the long run, and Elyran naval intelligence ships in orbit of Kirinyaga are believed to be aggressively searching the surface for signs of the militant group’s main force. As the KEC expeditionary force regains captured outposts and industrial facilities with only modest resistance, it seems that it is only a matter of time before the Mutualists are forced to aggressively respond, lest their presence on Kirinyaga end as quickly as it seemed to have arrived. As fighting continues, citizens of the Elyra-aligned city-state of Ngai interviewed by the XNS had this to say: Further Reading: Marsha Stangl Speaks Out About Time In Elyran Custody SIIB Refuses To Comment On Kirinyaga Crisis “The Powderkeg” Book Review: All You Need To Know About The Southern Spur
  3. Elyra Musters Response to Kirinyaga Attacks UTHMA, PERSEPOLIS (GST) - Following the outbreak of hostilities on Kirinyaga last week, officials within the Elyran government and the Kirinyaga Economic Concern (KEC) have been engaged in feverish closed-door planning over the Serene Republic’s response to the nascent border war. With the Elyran Armed Forces prevented from landing troops to the planet’s surface by the city-state of Shungwaya’s veto within the planetary government, the KEC has resorted to hiring a massive mercenary force to retake their Kirinyagan holdings from the Mutualist insurgents. This mercenary army, largely consisting of Jackal Incorporated contractors and employees from local Elyran firms, will be supplemented by a detachment of paramilitary volunteers recruited as part of an effort by Aydan Gökay - a controversial member of the Elyran parliament - and organized into a unit referred to as the "General Al-Hamid Brigade.” With military service being mandatory in the Serene Republic, most of these volunteers have received some level of basic training, and seem to largely be motivated by nationalist outrage or a perceived existential risk to their country; they are reportedly set to receive far less compensation for their service than their mercenary counterparts, and so the drive to volunteer is predominantly ideological in nature. When prompted about their motivations to join the General Al-Hamid Brigade, three people interviewed by the XNS had this to say: This combined force is set to depart for Kirinyaga within several days under the escort of Elyran naval vessels - some of which are believed to be intelligence-gathering ships - before arriving in-system within the next week. While the exact nature of the plans for a counter-attack are unknown, the expeditionary force is reported to be in possession of heavy equipment and it is believed that the Elyran navy will remain in orbit to provide support for their efforts. 4. BREAKING: FIGHTING BREAKS OUT ON FREE FRONTIER WORLD NEW ZANZIBAR, KIRINYAGA (GST) - In a sudden and unexpected development, there has been a widespread outbreak of fighting on the Elyra-bordering Free Frontier colony of Kirinyaga, with a previously unknown militant group engaging in dozens of simultaneous attacks on Elyran facilities throughout the planet. Though information at this time is limited, this militant group appears to have made use of surplus or outdated Solarian and Dominian military equipment - alongside off-the-shelf commercial weaponry and material - smuggled onto the planet alongside their users in apparent secrecy. There’s a compilation of images attached to the article, alongside a caption warning of graphic content contained within. The first image is of a team of fighters wearing a motley mixture of Dominian and Solarian military equipment, bearing rifles as they disembark from a mining shuttle evidently being used as a dropship. None of their gear has any insignia to speak of. The next is a picture of a lightly-armored security vehicle marked with “JACKAL INCORPORATED” and “KIRINYAGA ECONOMIC CONCERN”, lying wrecked in a ditch. Blood splatters are visible on the glass, and the partially obscured, vague shapes of what might be bodies can be seen within. The image after that shows a burnt-out mining outpost, and the one after that of a militant standing guard outside of a warehouse. The last picture is that of a pair of armored Jackal contractors marching with their hands raised up, held at gunpoint by an insurgent walking behind them. These attacks appear to have taken the personnel of the Serene Republic’s Kirinyaga Economic Concern by complete surprise, with multiple industrial sites and mining facilities reportedly captured or destroyed. While contracted security forces - primarily employees of Jackal Incorporated - attempted to repel the attackers, the defenders appear to have been too badly outnumbered to have succeeded in most reported incidents, and losses and prisoners have been taken. The most problematic loss for the Elyrans has been the alleged capture of the military advisory mission to the KEC, with the majority of its officers being caught unaware during the assault on the Economic Concern’s planetary headquarters. While initially it was totally unknown by observers who was responsible for starting the fighting, a video purportedly released by the group claims responsibility for the “Frontier Mutual Defense Union” and voices an opposition to Elyran expansion into the Free Frontier, and “NCP slavery” as their motives. Excerpt attached: The video shows an olive-skinned man with a buzzcut, dressed in a tactical jumpsuit - the sort that could be found in any military surplus store across the spur. He stands in front of a black background, and speaks Tau Ceti Basic with a choked pronunciation that suggests he’s trying to obscure his actual accent. “People of the spur. My name is Hugo: my fighters call me ‘Commander Hugo,’ and I am the leader of the Frontier Mutual Defense Union. I speak to you today to report on the success of our operations against the Elyran imperialist machine, and to tell you of our mission to defeat it.” The man pauses for a moment, before continuing. “Elyra has bled the people of the frontier and the poor of the spur dry for decades, using our people as slave labor to maintain their inflated and hedonistic lifestyle. The blood of the ‘Non-Citizen Person’ is what makes the Elyran way of life possible; and that is precisely why they seek to expand this criminal system to work beyond their own borders, hoping to line their pockets with the wealth of worlds like Kirinyaga. Not only do they wish to extend this slave regime to the Free Frontier, but they likewise hope to expand their recruitment efforts - using guile and propaganda to trick unwitting frontiersfolk into service now that they struggle to attract more fodder through their prior recruitment avenues. “I represent a great number of likeminded frontiersfolk who have had enough of this barbarity. We have taken up arms against it, and we will continue operations against Elyran holdings in the Sparring Sea, until such time that it becomes clear that Persepolis abandons its imperialist, expansionist ambitions there. We will continue to fight on Kirinyaga especially, where we have achieved great victories today, until the Elyran threat is defeated in totality - and every NCP worker on this planet has been freed.“ “I call on the Elyran government to withdraw now, and send no more mercenaries here. You will not succeed. The Mutual Defense Union will destroy everything you order into the fight against us, and continued resistance to our demands will gain you nothing except more dead citizens. Cease your encroachment upon the Sparring Sea now or we will fight on, and make your presence here totally unbearable. You have been warned.” While the Elyran government has yet to give a statement at this time, it is expected that regular Elyran forces will not be allowed to deploy to Kirinyaga’s surface itself, as the city-state of Shungwaya would likely veto such a request. With their options for retaliation thus limited, it remains to be seen how Persepolis hopes to handle this sudden crisis on their border. 5. Elyran Consortium Announces Increased Investment on Free Frontier World NEW ZANZIBAR, KIRINYAGA (GST) - While little-known outside of mercantile circles in the southern human frontier, the independent world of Kirinyaga has been home to substantial Elyran activity in recent years, as its close proximity and vast resource wealth has prompted steady growth of the Elyran corporate presence on the planet. The newest development in that relationship has come today, with the Elyran charter organization responsible for such operations - the Kirinyaga Economic Concern - having announced an agreement with the city-states of Ngai and New Zanzibar to double the overall investment into the world. Often considered the most prosperous colony in the Free Frontier and governed by a confederation of three city-states: New Zanzibar, Ngai, and Shungwaya, the planet of Kirinyaga was the only world to have been designated “superhabitable” by the Solarian Department of Colonization in the entire history of the hegemonic Alliance’s colonial efforts. The label “superhabitable” is reserved for planets with conditions even more favorable than Earth for human inhabitation, and with a mild climate, complete lack of dangerous fauna, and rich soil and ore deposits, Kirinyaga was deemed to fall into this category. Altogether, these traits - coupled with its location in a largely inhospitable region of the spur - led to Solarian plans to engage in massive investment into the world, with the intent of turning it into a regional metropolis and sector capital. However, while the ‘Solomon’ system (an experimental and self-replicating colony development AI meant to complement the Galatea program) deployed to the planet had already established more than a dozen cities (most lying empty and uninhabited today) and a large number of industrial sites by the time the first colonists began arriving, the outbreak of the Second Great Depression and subsequent Interstellar War abruptly ended the colonization program. In the following years the secession of Elyra further exacerbated the nascent colony’s situation, as a result of the Solarian withdrawal from the planet and the entire Southern Solarian Frontier altogether. Left to its own devices, Kirinyaga traded heavily with surrounding ex-Solarian colonies - especially those that would later form the Dominian Eastern Military Frontier - with its most valuable export being salvaged parts and equipment constructed by the Solomon AI system. Over the course of the subsequent centuries the planet grew gradually thanks to immigration from surrounding Free Frontier space and natural population growth, and its idyllic conditions and strong economy meant that it avoided the poverty and predations that often troubled abandoned Solarian colonies. At present, however, the planet finds itself in the middle of deepening Elyran and Imperial tensions; Elyran corporate activity sponsored by the two cities of Ngai and New Zanzibar has clashed with the city-state of Shungwaya’s strong trade relations with the Dominian colony of Caria, and Tribunalist missionaries sent there have only drawn the city-state further under Imperial influence. The resulting divisions have strained the integrity of the planetary Confederation, and many observers have noted the subsequent gridlock as having more or less frozen the ability of the three statelets to come to a consensus on almost any issue. The announcement of an even deeper Elyran presence on the planet is expected to exacerbate these issues. With the statement put out by the KEC outlining plans to establish dozens of new mining sites and a military advisory mission to assist and train the militia forces of New Zanzibar and Ngai, it is unclear how the city of Shungwaya plans to respond. While no statement from the President of the territory has yet been issued, Imperial ambassador to Xanu Yun-mi Seok geu Seumin had this to say when pressed for comment: “The Empire has long stood for a peaceful, stable Sparring Sea free of the threat of piracy and Elyran domineering. It is no small wonder the ‘Republic’ now looks to exploit another world – with a significant Tribunalist minority! – to rescue its economy from decades of mismanagement and malaise under a regime more obsessed with their own profits above aught else. I pray the good residents of Kirinyaga – blessed by the Goddess as they are with such a world – have the good sense and willpower to resist Elyra’s drive to turn them into ‘Non-Citizen Persons,’ as the Elyrans call their modern slaves.” Further Reading: Unexpectedly High Levels of Freight Traffic Reported by Shungwaya Spaceport OPINION - Why SCC Activity in the Lemurian Sea Must Be Investigated Elyran Stock Market Reports Best Day Since 2467
  6. Hello! As I am being mentioned specifically by name in this reply many times, I would like to point out that I never accused you of anything at all, and I certainly did not present an "argument" at any point - I did not contact staff about the remarks that got you banned, and I didn't particularly have much to say about the matter to begin with. Yes, I was concerned by your use of a phrase that fascists often use to self-identify or describe their ideology, largely as a consequence of my history of interactions with you and by virtue of you having made many remarks in the past that concerned me. I have also not ever mentioned your religious beliefs, nor have I insulted you in any capacity. I'm not really sure why I'm being singled out in this regard and named so many times, but I don't think it's appropriate for you to try and shift things onto me when, again, I have absolutely no involvement in this matter or in your ban. Thank you!
  7. BREAKING: Armed Forces Draft Office Bombed! Shocking news from Aemaq today, where an Elyran Armed Forces recruitment center that had been converted into a draft office for processing NCPs in the capital of Rumaidair was rocked by an explosion shortly before operating hours. The blast, which claimed the lives of four EAF personnel and wounded six others, is believed to have been caused by an improvised explosive device stashed in a foyer ceiling, possibly by maintenance workers or possibly during operating hours by a civilian. It is unclear how the attacker was able to evade detection by on-site EAF personnel, though the huge volume of draftees being processed in recent weeks likely played a part in obfuscating the preparation for the attack. Investigators are already working tirelessly reviewing the evidence and canvassing the scene, and while a suspect has not yet been disclosed, it is abundantly clear that this incident represents a startling and drastic new escalation in the NCP unrest over the recently passed draft laws. While incidents of NCP criminal behavior have reportedly increased sharply following the instatement of the draft, this is the first such incident of a targeted attack at an EAF facility, and many have been left stunned by the attack on a military facility by an apparent NCP terrorist. Already there has been a massive response to the incident, with large numbers of police and National Guard personnel deployed to Rumaidair at this time, and many citizens and legislators across the Republic calling for closer monitoring over the NCP community within our nation and stricter requirements for accessing potentially explosive materials. This is a developing story, and more information is likely to be released in the coming days and weeks. 8. I'm curious to hear how you currently feel about NBT2, in light of how important the megacorp team will be in completing the transition to the new setting. Could you post your thoughts regarding the new setting and the planned gameplay and lore changes that will come with it?
  9. I think that clears up my concerns, thank you.
  10. I hope this doesn’t come off the wrong way, but I feel like you misinterpreted Biesel’s lore if you ever read it as being a “genuine beacon of liberty”. For the duration of at least my time on this server, Biesel has always been a carefully tended asset for the megacorporations, and the facade of being a beacon of liberty is a key component of that artificially constructed state - sure, some characters in the lore have been true believers in Biesel and it’s not so cut-and-dry as “Biesel is solely a corporate puppet state” by any means, but the fundamental nature of the state is that it is a corporate cash-cow dressed up as a liberal democracy. Likewise, I’m concerned about how you framed the dynamic powering Biesel as a dichotomy of either being like Sol to being like a sort of True Free Biesel. Similarities have more to do with the nature of imperialism as opposed to the characteristics possessed by either state, and furthermore I can’t help but point out that I think the way that you describe Sol itself as being out of alignment with the actual lore of the state. Your desire to “De-Sol” Biesel begs the question of how you intend to do so, and if you’re framing the “Sol-like” traits as the evil parts of Biesel, don’t you run the risk of turning IW2 into a conflict between a “good” side and a “bad” side? Maybe I’m not communicating my feelings well, but in general the way you’ve framed this answer has me concerned about your goals with the position - whitewashing Biesel would be massively detrimental to the server, in my opinion, and I hope that’s not what you intend to do. To close off, the final sentence there almost reads as an ultimatum that you want to take Biesel in a specific direction and you will not pursue this application further if you’re not able to do so. It was part of the job description that megacorp writers are going to have to deal with deferring to other teams and the loremasters more commonly than the species teams would have to, and I don’t think this attitude meshes well with that need. I hope you can clear up these concerns for me; thank you!
  11. I noticed that you didn’t really speak much about Biesel. Could you elaborate on what direction you feel you’d like to take the Republic of Biesel in, especially in the context of what you know about Anabasis? I would personally argue that Biesel is the far more important responsibility for this new team to handle, especially in light of how the megacorporations are changing to become a less dominant force. With regards to other lore teams, how well do you feel you’ll be able to accommodate their vision? Are you able to accept compromise and defer to other teams when necessary to do so? The changing nature of Biesel and the megacorporations is going to necessitate extensive cooperation with other lore teams, and with much already being worked on behind the scenes, do you feel you’ll be able to mesh in with an internal vision you might not like? I would also disagree to an extent with your characterization of Avarizia and other freelancer groups as resembling the megacorporations and having the potential to become new ones, but that’s a relatively minor point. I hate to bring this up because it was an incident that happened all the way back in 2024, but one major concern I have is how you are able to handle friction and disagreements. While we sorted this out and the matter is several years old, I recall a point in time where you blocked me over what I believe was a minor lore disagreement, if my memory serves me correctly. While obviously this is not reflective of how you might be in the present as there’s a significant time gap involved here, I still have my concerns about how you’ll be able to handle players and other lore writers disagreeing with you or saying things you find objectionable - do you feel you’ll be able to do so without having to cut off contact entirely?
  12. Department of Defense Announces Rollout of Kyoto-class Battleship UNITY STATION (GST) - The Department of Defense today has announced the long-embattled Kyoto-class battleship project has met all DoD specifications, and procurement of the ship for all major combat fleets was now underway. This development comes after years of revision and back-and-forth negotiations between Secretary of Defense Lucien Courtois and his counterparts in the top ranks of the admiralty, as the Kyoto-class has been plagued by decades of development woes - with both political malfeasance from within the Navy and corruption among military and civilian administrators responsible for the project that had reached its peak under the Frost administration. By far the most modern craft to ever serve with the Navy, the Kyoto-class represents the cutting edge of naval warfare and design, with a suite of highly advanced weapons, automation systems, sensors, engines and bleeding-edge plasteel-polymer ceramic composite armor. While originally intended to replace the Navy’s aging Rome-class battleships completely, phoron supply shortfalls have made this decision effectively impossible - instead, the Rome-class will undergo modernization to use the most effective non-phoronic equipment at the Navy’s disposal, with some hulls scrapped, some assigned to second-line fleets and training formations, and the excess being either modernized and mothballed or mothballed outright. Another key change to the program is the decision to use a Suzuki-Hammer drive instead of a bluespace drive, which came as a consequence of the aforementioned phoron procurement and supply issues. SecD. Courtois gave this statement alongside the announcement: “The success of the Kyoto-class program has been a major demonstration to the rest of the Spur of our recovering strength, as well as our continued commitment to peace through deterrence. Sol has always stood as the foremost guardian of humanity throughout the Orion Spur, and the Kyoto-class shows that we are serious about maintaining that role - our Sovereign Alliance will always be ready to bring peace and prosperity by any means necessary. 13. Valley Hale Bilateral Settlement with Biesel Reached UTHMA, PERSEPOLIS (GST) - After weeks of intensive negotiations with officials from Biesel, good news has come from Mendell City today, as the diplomats assigned to talks with the Tau Cetians over the status of the Valley Hale and a number of other border areas have come to report that a settlement has been reached with their counterparts with Biesel. While not all conditions of the agreement have been revealed at this time, it is reported that the Serene Republic will recognize the space occupied by Biesel in the region as legally Tau Ceti’s, in exchange for finalizing the borders between our two nations and a commitment to strengthening bilateral security cooperation. The agreement comes as a profound relief to many domestic observers, as the border with Biesel has been a persistent issue for relations between our two countries ever since the Solarian collapse several years ago. Friction on the border began with the establishment of the Orchard Moon phoron mining and processing facility, an SCC industrial site established in territory previously claimed by both nations. A number of minor incidents involving corporate vessels and Elyran border guards further cooled ties, as Biesel began committing a significant quantity of TCAF squadrons to the Valley Hale region in order to enforce their claims. Nonetheless, as the spur grows more dangerous by the year, officials within both governments recognized that our two Republics are stronger together than apart, and diplomatic efforts to repair ties and resolve areas of contention beginning this year have finally come to produce meaningful results. It is expected that the solidification of the border will allow significant quantities of Naval forces to be relocated to the western border of the Serene Republic as Imperial encroachment continues there, providing a major boost in forces there alongside the arrival of NCP draftees to the frontline in several months. 14. I see absolutely no reason to compel people to play the game against their will. Succumb allows people to take their exit when they’ve lost all character agency or when it would be most suited for roleplay. If people are using it to avoid roleplay because they’re only here to frag, they should be dealt with by moderation.
